  • Welcome back Barkey! Hope you didn't have too much fun!

Wish I could join you all for the jaunt at the weekend, but as mentioned i'm in welsh wales! Whoop! Borrowing my chaps Merlin HT for the weekend, frames a little bit big so I can see some nice crashes! ha ha! Better than having no back brake on mine!

I'll be around the weekend after if anything gets organised :)
    delightfully dangerous!
  • Aye, welcome back mate.

I wouldn't want to get too drunk up there and stumble over the railings, it looks like a long way down....
  • So guys, if anyone is joining us on Sunday for a nice little ride around the Moors. Here is the route I was thinking of.

i take it 13-14 is "the incline"......as the elevation jumps staright up to 13% which shouldnt give us any problems after the 33% road climb me and you did,

Whats up with your rear brake, I got a Juicy 3 which i'm not using.

Have a good ride on sunday guys.
  • Now then Guys and Girls!

I've been totally off the radar since my first and last ride out with yourself. Between holidays and working away with work I have only been back in Hull once since that sunday.

Took my misses round Glentress this weekend. Was a guide day out until another female biker hit a tree head on in front of us then it was escape routes down after that (Leigh bottled it after seeing another female injure herself). Naturally.

Anyway I am thinking of bringing a bike home if you are out next sunday.

    Hope your all well,

    Chris.

nice little ride out today, and no carrying bikes at all  ,pity the normal crowd couldnt make it out for obvious diff reasons as there was some really good downhills that where fast and tech, and some nice little steep uphill bits......hit the incline again today i managed to get up to the gate half way then legs died on me,giggmaster managed a bit further then me..all in all good day out....20 miles in just over 2 and half hours :D

  • Looks like a good moors ride lads. Looks familar from the photos ;) I've got my car fixed now, so im good for riding all over the place again. :D

Giggsmaster - Im riding a MTBE forum ride on sunday morning, in Guisborough if you and your bro wanna join, your welcome too. It will be a fairly easy pace, with a decent sized group over the moors. No more then about 15miles perhaps. Starts in Guisborough woods and finished there, I'll problaby then have a play in Guisborough woods for about an hour. Might get out on the moors on Saturday morning with me not working this week too, no idea of the route yet, gonna try and bring my mate out for a moors ride. Could end up doing either the Danby route again (the one i did last monday) or something around Chop Gate?

That the bit behind you where it looks as the world has dropped off haha
  • Looks like you had a smashing ride out boys! I didn't end up going to wales for one reason and another but we got out to Dalby on Saturday though, finally completed the whole red route! Was a bit of a bone shaker on the old hardtail, sooo soo sooooo need a new bike! I've been told I need to get an agressive trail bike rather than a bog standard XC!
Whats up with your rear brake, I got a Juicy 3 which i'm not using.

I broke it when I came off my bike in the peaks a few rides ago, the brake lever snapped out of the piston joint and has knacked all the washers up etc. They're just rubbish brakes anyway too, fade so quickly and no modulation what so ever! Think i'm going to take it in and get it looked at and get them upgraded eventually! Need to get my forks checked out too as they've gone very stiff! I just need a new bike! Really don't know what to go for though!

Anything heavy with 6inch of travel should be agressive enough for you then! Unless you want a £4k carbon framed trail bike!

Aye, it is one hell of descent or ascent...

We always come up it though, it definitely takes it out of you. No point in going down it, it would be over too quick and not very technical.

You could ride down it on a Penny Farthing! ;P Then again you need legs and lungs of steel to get all the way up the thing!

  • Going out on Saturday hopefully to ride on the moors with my friend. www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=20913 the Route, this loop looks abit more ridable then the last we did west of Chop Gate! Anyone is welcome to join us, however it wouldn't be a very fast pace and could be ending up cutting the route short etc due to time. Im sure theres a ridable way up out of Chop gate onto West Bilsdale Moor instead of a very steep unrideable footpath ;P

Looks a good route there Matt. Anything has got to be better than our last climb out of Chop Gate.....

I see you have included the DH from Bilsdale West Moor, you speed freak..., and the DH that brings back memories of plenty of tumbles for me...

So, then for Friday, we could either do the route myself and our kid did on Sunday. Which is this, Cockayne Loop. A good few DH's and rideable all the way, apart from the Incline (depending on fitness...).

Or, maybe this one, Cockayne to Church Houses. Good DH Singletrack on this route and nice muscle burning ascents. The only place I am not sure if it is rideable is the DH in Farndale West. We rode it early this year and it was rideable, but whether it is overgrown now I'm not sure.

haha! Super fast from the transmitter as we both know! Hopefully the climb should be pretty good going out of chop gate! I'll let you know how it goes. We may just descend into Bilsdale Hall instead of Carr Ridge, depending on how my mate feels. Its been a while since hes been out biking.
