The bits after that, near Danby are very good, there is one push up the bridleway though, its abit steep, but the run back down the otherside is ace. From the car park up the first hill onto the moors should be good to warm the legs up, as its a pretty big hill again! Deffo looks rideable though!

I think Matt's tank is still faster than me!
I'm gonna be even slower on a full sus, even though it's not quite a tank!

i find if i lock mine out front and back,i climb better then it unlocked...and believe me,our ride would of been 2 hours shorter if we wasnt waiting for matt and his tank to roll back upto us

Can't make it this evening i'm afraid, i'm off indoor rock climbing again! whoop! :D

Sunday i'm definately up for though! Gosh, 16 miles will seem like a breeze! Not looked at the route yet but its not another push/carry bikes up a massive steep hill start is it? Its so soul destroying!
    delightfully dangerous!
  • I was going to take us down the Corkscrew but decided against it, I thought it might be a bit dodgy for us mortals.....

Like Matt says you can take it in if you want because we will meet up at the same point. Our kid, for elevation you can click on the side panel and it brings up a bar along the bottom showing the ups and downs.

Am hoping the terrain might be abit easier to ride over this week, it looks like there is more of a path on route, rather than fern and heather....

Them 16 miles could end up more like 20 by the time we finish...

Just rang freetown to see if they could check out my brake, they said they could look at it but couldn't do any servicing until 15th September!! Meh!! Think I may have a go at bleeding it as it might have got air into it after is snapped out, and have a look at the pads too. Or I may just give up and get a new bike that I keep going on about!!

try ringing a few more lbs they might be able to get youre bike in abit early then 15 sept....they better be able to do my front shock before then,im just about to look on net and see if i can order one myself then ring up and see which lbs can fit it for me....

I can give you a hand with changing your front shock, if you brought it around to mine, I presume you will be changing your headset? They are a breeze to swap out.

Danielle, what brakes are you trying to bleed? Most are relatively easy to do, just need to take your time and have the right bits:
Avid and other closed circular systems you need the appropriate bleed kit.
Hope - a piece of plastic pipe and a 7mm ring spanner.
Hayes - nightmare as they are meant to be a "sealed" system.

Let me know if I can help anyone - I am not a bike mechanic, but I have fixed mine many times before, and have a lot of experience with car systems.

  • Hello Everyone,

I would just like to introduce myself to your section of the forum. I'm from Hull, just got back into cycling in the last couple of years.

A mate and I have done a fair bit of riding including the off road coast to coast from Cumbria to North Yorks; we've done a few rides around North york moors the dales and Dalby, plus some stuff locally.

It sounds like you guys do a regular Thursday ride, but where do you start from, I'd be interested in joining in so would my mate; let me know where you normally ride on thurs and I'll let you know if we can make it.
Saturday/Sunday rides are a bit tricky as the missus works weekends :( But off to Dalby on the 10th, can't wait :D

    Cheers ;)

hi paul and welcome to this forum mate....we normally do a local ride on a wednesday or a thursday night mate, normally start now at corby park/nth ferriby as nights are getting dark now and do about 15 miles of which most is off road round brantingham,we have been starting at 6pm...its a nice little ride to keep us going during week and build up fitness....can be anywhere from 4 of us upto 8 of us depending on who can make it.....type in corby park/north ferriby into google maps mate, its at the top end of corby park/clive sully.....more then welcome to join up with us,just keep a eye on this forum for future rides......
  • Before my Marin was stolen, I had the Tora 318, coil, basically for the U-Turn, 80-130mm, thats the one I would buy as it has the extra plushness!
To fit it properly, I would buy another headset, they start from a tenner. If not we have to remove the crown race from your old forks, which means a big hammer!
If you get them and then give me a shout, since I am around the corner from you, You can pop round and I will show you how to fit them.

Hey Paul, welcome! We try to organised a ride most sundays as well, hopefully you may be able to join us sometime! As for Mid week rides to Dalby, with being a 'student' I can usually work out some kind of ride during the day on a weekday.
