W H Smiths do extensive ordnance survey maps. Standard Landranger and the much bigger and more detailed Explorer maps.

Do you mean printed on the maps or sign posted when youre out on the bike mate,if you mean when youre out on the bike the ones we have used have signs.

I mean out and about. This may sound stupid to you lot but once your on a byway is it sign posted every so often or only when it change's direction or a new one starts? Can see me upsetting a farmer or two or getting lost in the middle of a field not knowing which way to go.

A byway is>>>>>A byway in the United Kingdom is a track, often rural, which is too minor to be called a road. These routes are often unsurfaced, typically having the appearance of 'green lanes'. Despite this, it is legal (but may not be physically possible) to drive any type of vehicle along certain byways, the same as any ordinary tarmac road.
In 2000 the legal term 'restricted byway' was introduced to cover rights of way along which it is legal to travel by any mode (including on foot, bicycle, horse-drawn carriage etc.) but excluding 'mechanically propelled vehicles'.

I think you might be on about bridleways as you mention farmers fields tho,the majority of bridleways follow the edge of fields or old tracks across fields,we have come across bridleways before that can be hard to follow but if you look at youre map and head in the right direction you normally find the sign post at the other side.

Anouther thing we use to help see if the bridleway/byway/path on a os map is clear once on the ground is "wheres the path".

    Hope that helps mate.

Its for Our Kids Kona and the original cost him up near £100 so i cant really replace it with a £37 set from superstar, ive found a set on ebay for £62 including postage and import tax paid, but not sure if im covered by insurance if it dont arrive.

If you use PayPal you should be able to get your money back if it doesn't turn up

Thats what i thought Midge but in the small print it says>>>We are also offering an alternative service, USPS First Class International Registered mail, which is priced at a slightly lower rate and includes delivery confirmation, but no insurance and is not covered by eBay's Protection Plan, and in the carriers terms it says i might not be covered by Paypal either.........so not going to risk it,im just going to save up for a couple more weeks and order from CRC.

I'm already going out on the bike as I'm out with the other half to Bridlington in the car, then making my way back home on the bike. Just trying to sort out the route on Memory Map now....

I was across at Brantingham on Thursday, only did 8 mile, got soaked and came home.
