Im hoping to get out in the morning but only doing a short ride using the bike path networks, seeing as ive only done about 70 miles so far this year my fitness will be non existent.0
-
I need to start doing longer rides now to get in shape for the coast2coast I'm doing in june0
-
I need to get the fitness up if im to do the Burma Road up in Scotland come august, and i didnt get out today due to the little one being sick and keeping me up till 4-30am0
-
I were out on Sunday morning for a ride of a mix of tarmac and Bridleway around North Hull. Ain't been out on the bike for a while so the 20 mile knackered me out....
Up at Nut Wood with the dogs this morning and I was quite surprised how dry it was looking.0 -
I'm thinking of doing a local ride at the weekend need to check out to see if hessle foreshore is still open, as I have been told it is closed due to the landslide.
yeah it is closed until 02/08/2013 - so you can not get to North Ferriby along the foreshore.0 -
I went out Friday for the first time in about 2 months and did 14 mile on the river bank/bridleways and cycle tracks, which killed me,so doubt id be able to manage the local route out near you Barkey, plus it was footie yesterday and then Paris-Roubaix today.0
-
im off to do the local loop at 3pm today, leaving the shop i will head up through cott and skidby. bugger about the tpt being closed along the river.
i have been doing a 30 mile road circuit for the past couple of weeks, getting saddle time in before the wolds sportive... end of this month!! .... after that, there will be a stunning LeMond road bike up for sale0 -
The local loop is dry! :-o
The part that goes between nut wood and the pond has been treated to loose gravel and chalk. But at least its better than ankle deep sludge. Horses everywhere today!0 -
Hi All
I'm new to MTBing and have been round Nut wood after reading about it on here.
Where else would you recommend for a newbie please?
Thanks
Steve0 -
Went out with Giggs yesterday and did 22 miles, went into Wawne then took the river Hull to Beresford park, onto Clough road/Ryde ave and then past Bobs Bikes and down scully lane onto Barmston drain over Wilmington bridge and onto the hornsea track at the back of the tip on stoneferry, followed the Hornsea track to Swine then took a bridleway which brings you back into Wawne, got home and i was in a lot of pain
Stephen>all i can suggest is keep a eye on here for anyone doing the local stuff/or just explore round Nut wood a bit more on the bridleways and (cough)footpaths,we use to start/finish in ferriby near the A62 and do a loop which started by heading up through the woods to the scout camp and then up past the cement works which is about 15 miles,or get youreself to Dalby.
Dont suppose anyone knows what Dalby is like at the moment,as Giggs mentioned about maybe, and thats a big maybe going on Sunday??????0 -
Go through Dalby every day. Been as dry as a bone up here for the last few weeks, just cold and a bit windy. Even the leftover snow from the bad weather a month or so back that never seems to melt from between the shaded parts of the forest is now all gone. Haven't been fully off road (despite actually just finishing building a proper mountain bike from spare parts) but what parts of the forest i've seen are compacted and dry, with only a slight amount of dampness in places, rather than full on mud. In fact, once you get inland from the coast by a few miles, it's been reasonably warm and windless (compared to Scarborough). Actually had blue skies the other day going over Dalby. Felt like i'd overdressed a bit.0
-
Cheers for that Ouija,im still recovering from the ride the other day so going to give Dalby a miss this weekend and try and get some more miles in my legs locally.0
-
Probably just as well. As i look out the window all i see is rain (the first in over a month, despite the rest of the country having seen tons of rain and snow in the last month). Imagine Dalby is rapidly turning back into a mud hole.0

hi
any local rides hapnin sun? wouldn't mind coming along if ok
daz0 -
Hi Daz
I don't know about anybody else on here but I was out on a 20 mile ride this morning. Not a very exciting route, but just one to get the fitness up after a Winter of hibernation.
I think Altern mentioned where we go. From Kingswood to Wawne, then down River Hull bank until Beresford Park. Along Cycletrack to Clough Road, Ryde Ave then Sculcoates Lane, across Wilmington Bridge and Cleveland Street. Join the Hull to Hornsea track all the way to Swine, which takes you to BW back to Wawne.
Probably some time in May, I can see myself getting the 35 mile we need to trek across to Raywell and Nut Wood, so If you keep your eyes peeled, it might start the Summer of riding......0 -
hornsea and back is so mind numbing
you need to get your bike's in your car and get over to raywell0 -
Its not when you've got the wind at your back and your doing 20mph, ha ha.....
I was going to ask if you fancied doing a XC race in May, but I'm not sure whether I will be ready or not. Anyway its the Nutcracker Series if you're interested....0 -
i was out this morning i did 25 miles in 2h 22mins and climbed 478m
i need to put some miles in my legs for when i do the c2c in june0 -

And im only good enough for you to get fit
Round 6 looks good tho0 -
yeah my post was a bit short notice......lol
biking upto raywell aswell as going round it does end up being 30 odd miles but it is a litlle more interesting.

There is about 5 metres of climbing so dont get to excited
I did anouther 10 miles today, taking in a little 1 mile circuit ive found which has a couple of very, very short climbs but gets the old heart rate up while im trying to get the fitness up.
Im looking at doing around 14 mile on Weds at some point during the day,and getting out on Friday for a short blast and then attempt doing the Kingswood-Raywell and back on Sunday,if im not to drunk due to football results0 -

The LeMond will be up for sale sooner rather then later then Stu
Went out Sunday with Giggs on some of the local stuff and still all bone dry,the miles ive been putting in over the last 2 weeks are paying off at last as we did 27 miles without me dying, not to sure what id be like on a climb up on the moors tho :roll:0 -
Lol. I wouldn't go up on the moors just yet. Despite the warmer weather, there's still a bit of a breeze about. Not bad in the woods of Dalby or when riding up and down the hills and valleys surrounding it, but once you get up on the moors there is nothing to act as a wind brake. Made the mistake of riding out to Rosedale last week and again the other day. Fine in the village itself, but once you get half way up the Chimney your practically leaning sideways against the wind.
Actually set my fastest speed on a mountain bike coming down from the top of Rosedale Chimney to Hutton Le Hole last year (50mph). Last week, i was pedalling as hard as i could and was barely able to reach 13mph (you know it's bad when even gravity decides it can't be arsed to help you).0 -
Ssshhhh Ouija im trying to sweet talk Giggs to try out the moors, with me saying we can make the climbs
On a bit of a diff note ive just had a good read up on "Burma Road" im going to try while up at Aviemore in August, some of the things ive read are>>>>24 miles for shortish route and will take 6-7 hours with breaks or the longer route at 32miles.....Described by some of the best mountain bikers as brutal.......The total ascent to the first summit should take about 45 mins for someone who is fit and experienced.....be prepared and bring all necessary supplies, and I probably wouldn’t recommend doing alone, it’s a long, hard day and some parts are quite remote – it would be easy to get into difficulty.....and finally the Terrain: Very challenging, steep, technical, farmland, remote.
So as long as i can follow the trail im up for this, might have to start putting in more miles during the upcoming weeks tho to make sure im as fit as i can be,or do i try riding Ingleby Incline as much as i can0 -
Im off uo dalby for the weekend tomorrow if anyone is up for a giggle!0
-
I aint got no transport Stu or i might off popped up 2mor,hopefully ill be out on Saturday morning doing something local tho as i need to up my miles/week as i mapped out the "Burma Road" ride im looking at doing up in Scotland come August,i start off with 3 miles on road and then hit a climb of 1380ft over 3.2 miles at a average grade of 8%,but then its downhill for 7.5 miles.Ive had a look at a few rides myself and Giggs has done over the years and there is only the climb up Walna Scar road on the Seathwaite side that comes close, and ive never managed to get up that :oops:0

Unfortunately we are taking the van. So only room for us two going. Try the kirkstone pass from the a66 to bowness for a hill climb ;-) took 3 hours up.... Walking and pub at top. 22 mins down! :-D0
