    cheers. daz
  • Yeah, we got to Dalby. Did some of the red, it wasn't totally boggy, just a few pools of water here and there, nothing too dodgy.

Myself and Giggsmaster dont go much to Dalby mate,we maybe go 4 times a year if that as we prefer to get out on the Moors/Peaks/Dales and ride some natural stuff.....there maybe a few people who keep a eye on this thread so all i can suggest is post youreself if youre going anywhere and also keep a eye on here for future rides.

Ok Pete, ill let you off but if it was a school report it would say could do better

Just ordered myself some semi slicks/inner tubes and a new chain for my Dale to start doing a bit of road riding to get the fitness up.

Also looking at going up to Scotland for a week in august with the family and wouldnt mind having a look at doing THIS if im fit enough

I was out Friday mate did the hornsea track to swine then onto wawne and back home, only 14 miles but it was the first ride ive done since i was at Dalby with you and Giggs(i think),ive set myself a target of 1500 miles this year which is about 30 miles/week,i am looking at getting out local on a mixture of roads/bridleways every 2nd day and hopefully do the Dales/Peaks or the Moors on a weekend.

Had a chat with Giggs this afternoon about some routes we can do starting February, looking at doing parts of routes we have done in the past(mainly double track and fireroads) and mixing it with a bit of road to keep away from all the mud for the time being, upto now we have 2 up on the moors/1 in the Peaks and deff 1 in the Dales maybe 2.

Now if i had a red cape and went by the name of superman, then maybe 300 miles a week would be ok

Lol. I do 300 miles a week. Well...... mainly in the summer months (been closer to the 200 mark since winter set in). But it is doable...... if your not married, spend around 4 hours of every day on your bike(s) and.... oh... have no life :). Still, even i would be pushed to get the 15000 (been averaging 10000 the last two years). Though on the bright side, that was while holding down a job. Since i got layed off three months ago i anticipate great things (bikewise).

Now, where did i leave that cape.........

Though to be fair, if all your doing is off road mountain biking your not going to rack up the sort of miles you'll do on road with some slick tyres as mountain biking tends to be slow and technical riding rather than the fast and straight ahead riding of the road (quality over quantity etc). But i'd highly recommend doing a bit more road riding as it'll get your fitness levels up to doing more challenging off road stuff.

Oh! And on a side note. Couldn't believe how f*****g freezing it was today in Dalby. White frost over everything when everywhere else was sunny and warm.

I get bored very easy just doing road riding tho mate, and in the mountainous region of Hull  we dont have that much double track we can ride so the motivation to get out on the bike is hard to find,so i set my target low each week to just 30 miles not including what we do on a weekend in the Peaks/Dales or NYM to give me the motivation to get out as the target is easy to reach while doing road stuff round Hull.

Hopefully once i get the semi slicks on the Cannondale hardtail i have i might start enjoying the road work with the faster rolling speed rather then the grind of big nobbly tyres(fingers crossed).

And youre right about the miles/time you can do on a road bike to a mountain bike,as above like what Pete did on his road bike in 6 and half hours,we could be out that long and only do say 25 miles.

go the other way mate, i used to live in barrow, its a better night out! ;)

we are just starting mapping our big ride in august if anyone is interested. 8 days cross country, taking in road and off road. should be about 400 miles...ish... last one was more like 500!

All my bikes are just mountain bikes converted to hybrids via lighter tyres and/or rigid forks (with multiple sets of wheels it only takes a minute to turn them back into something off road specific). Owned a Giant Defy road bike once, and a proper 700c hybrid but just can't stand the larger diameter wheels (same goes for 29'ers). And to someone of my age, what people refer to as "Road" bikes these days i'd call a "Racing" bike as i don't really think they're all that suitable for road riding. Certainly, wouldn't want to spend all day on one. Especially as i tend to detour off onto single tracks and cinder tracks etc. I know i'd probably go faster and further on a "Racer" but would rather spend the day in a more "sit up and beg position" and potter at a slower speed in more comfort.

Anywaays... the weather forecast says it's gonna rain mid afternoon so i'm just gonna pop out and do the daily 40 while i still can.
