  • I'm rather impressed with it, especially as the chap at the LBS said it wouldn't be suitable for pumping up road tyres as "you'll never it up to that high pressure" and tried to up-sell me to a bigger, more expensive one!

Thankfully I had full trust in the helpful people on here that had recommended it and it worked a treat and I can get the full 100PSI I need with a bit of elbow grease!

Yes 100psi & elbow grease

    I'm saying nothing

So folks i'm just back from 2/3 of the loop, the roads are bone dry and back to the usual dusty state - I lost the magnet from my spoke 5 miles in :( - thanks to the two cyclist and runner that stopped to ask if I was okay, still the ride was good avg HR 155 max 198

Max speed 43 MPH avg 15.3 MPH lots of +30s :D

Lessons learnt today = I need more than just 1 bottle of water for 45 mile rides :?

I've just checked the ever reliable Metcheck Website and next sunday the forecast is set for rain and rain... not good, not good at all.

    Bloody weather.

it's a bit far to predict weather though, give it a day or two and hopefully it will change, looking increasing likely that that weekend is yet another need to do foo rather than go out any where....

Metcheck are usually unnervingly accurate though. They accurately predicted rain in Pau for the start of last years Etape 4 months in advance and were spot on. Sorcery I reckon!

I do remember hearing from someone who had been over in France that they are can do very accurate weather forecasts there as they have a relatively large landmass compared to us in the UK so don't get effected by the same coastal systems that we do as an island.

They said it was un-nerving how they could predict almost to the hour when the weather would change! Not to sure if this holds true for 4 month forecasts but I'm thinking that was more (bad) luck then judgement......

I have to say, forecasting more than a few days in advance is not generally that accurate unless they get lucky.

Just depends if the gap between the fronts blows past during your ride!

Let's hope we're ok then. I'm really looking forward to this, but won't come if it's wet. I hate riding in the rain, it's bad enough when you are training but no fun at all on a "social" ride. The forecast for London is dry on Sunday afternoon, so I'll have to make a decision nearer the time I guess.

Fear not the forecast is looking a little better, you're not going to need the sun cream but it looks to be dry with some outbreaks of a hot orange ball in the sky for both Sat & Sun

Given the local landscape we have a microclimate resulting in totally different weather than the local towns, tiz true! if I can remember or be arsed i'll take some pictures of the snow yes snow that we still have in some gardens and road sides.

Guy's, if the weather on the weekend is similar to how it was yesterday (in London) from 5pm then I'll be pulling out of the Marlborough Loop on Saturday. I experienced a horrendous and frankly terrifying incident with a slightly-to-the-side-head-wind...

Is it Sat or Sun? Confused now. I wouldn't have fancied riding yesterday with deep rim wheels!

    @Biondino,

I didn't have an off, but came too close on too many occasions for me to consider it safe to ride (with any reasonable speed) in those conditions.

Edit: The side-headwind was evil and took (turned violently) the front wheel from under me. I don't fully understand how I managed to stay upright but am sure it was a combination of being able to clip out, ground myself and stop sharply.

Seems it's impossible to predict ATM yesterday was so windy I gave up after 8 miles, today the sun is out no wind everywhere is bone dry, metcheck is still saying DRY DRY DRY

I'll keep you all posted and Roger NP matey they'll be plenty of other ops to meet this motley crew who knows by then we might even have an injury free team

I like the way we are a team now :-) Don't think Saturday is gonna come round fast enough, specially as I've now had to put up with 2 trips to and from London on the horrid train this week I'm itching to get back on my bike! Hoping my colleague isn't sick again tomorrow as it'll mean I can take a ride to a new site up the top of Hampstead Road! Route there I'm borrowing from the way I get to Euston station but route home still needs confirming - I envisage it will involve hills tho :-)

Unsurprisingly I'm definitely not able to make the Loop, much to my sadness. Those of you who've ridden with me will know I'm a moaner of the highest order so riding while injured would just lead to a non-stop stream of misery from my lips and no-one wants to experience that.

I think Jay is me so you and I and Linsen can form our own little group - if you're worried about the wind why not bring your Giant ?

I'm actually not sure if I'm going to be able to make it as the bike carrier I ordered before I went to Scotland still hasn't turned up and Royal Mail appear to have lost it off their tracking system
