Can you please confirm you intention to attend on the 8th March, I need to get the numbers sorted for lunch/dinner start time etc.

    Attica
    Jash
    Bass
    DDD
    Blondio

My one fear is that I've (not sure how long this ride is or the hills) never ridden the distances at/and speeds most of the above are used to. While I'm sure it'll be fun and the company wonderful (until Biondino gets rowdy and starts throwing his bike lock keys into a bowl  ) I am, honestly, concious that I'll slow you guys down too a point that you won't enjoy yourselves.

But I still want to come, just thought I'd throw my concerns out there and apologise in advance.

I was hoping to take you up on the generous offer of kipping on the floor if that's still OK ITB? I can provide my own sleeping bag :-D

I think I can do slightly better than that, no need for a sleeping bag :D

Your a gent! I'm still waiting to here if DDD or anyone else coming in from London would like a lift. I've got a 3 bike rack that I should be able to fit to my car if I can find the instructions for what fittings I need!

Yeah I would like a lift - unless I can my hands on a car as my car probably wouldn't make it. If I can get a car, I don't mind following you up or offering a lift.

And people better be nice to me!

Kewl, I'll fish out the bike rack (if your OK with that) and see if I can figure out the fittings to get it secured to my car :-D I'm planning on heading up the evening before if that's still good for you? I'll either PM or MSN you closer to the day to arrange details.

Depends on how good your bike rack is... We can put your bike on last to cushion the blow for my bike should the bikes fall off... :P .

The 8th is a Sunday, the night before is Saturday. As long as it's OK with ITB (consider my previous post) and yourself then sure! Road Trip!!!

Are there any single girlies coming on this adventure...? 8) :D 8)

Never fear this is a "fun" ride no one gets left behind, I've planned the route very carefully to cater for short sharp sprints, hill climbs  MASSHOOF down-hills with plenty of quiet country lanes and stunning views (AONB x2), there are one or two long smooth drags perfect for a little light hearted fun

I've done the route a few times now on my SS, tourer and roadie overall it's a pleasant ride and I always have a huge smile on my face at the end - good sign. :D

Distance will depend on the weather and how the group feels, i'm not going to force anyone into some mental 100 mile epic (see 50 mile epic of yesterday)

On the subject of fast down hills, there are 3-4 places where you can touch 50mph weather permitting

  • @DDD - It's a SOCIAL ride, ITB has already said no one is going to be left behind! We'll all wait and it's by no means a race! I know most of those ideas seem foreign to us SCRers but you should be fine and there won't be any other slow cyclist or kids getting in our way like n the FW :-)

Besides as JA is coming you could even have a tester race :-D

The bike rack itself is quite sturdy and has nice rubber bits to put the frames on and straps to secure them down. I'll also be bringing some additional strapping so we can tie everything together! I've managed to track down the fittings details online now so I can adjust it correctly for the other car and just need to pop into Halfords as it does mention something about another fitting kit.........

As for ladies, I can only see Linsen's name on there and I think she's spoken for (technically so are you (and me!), but what goes on tour stays on tour eh ;-)) so unless we happen to run into the Marlborough Ladies Cycling Club I think you might be out of luck!

:-D Well that would give me a new PB! 50mph would be a holy grail but then could be problematic as it would be difficult to go faster! None of the "hills" near me are long enough to build up huge speed, my best so far is 41.5mph down a short/sharp road. I think I could have gone faster but I don't trust car drivers!

I'm really gonna need to clean and adjust my bike beforehand tho. It's filthy and the gear shifting can be a little sketchy when trying to get the small cog at speed........

I would like to attend if there is space? I have a road bike. I also have a car but would happily join another car and contribute fuel money for the sake of the climate. South London based.

Tis turning out like the fw! I still have a space on the rack as long as I can get it fitted to me car!

I am somewhat disturbed by these discussions about me here.........

I may well be coming, but have not yet made my final decision. If so, I will be the slowest, so that will make you all feel better.
Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome

what car what bike rack? most seem to go on fine, i carried my wife's stepthough hybrid many a times which is at least double the weight of most road bikes.

when i do take the roadie or even the MTB somewhere it never moves always a worry though i agree!

Right then I am waiting for ITB to get back to me but I am proposing a sneaky little midweek outing on 26th February - a Thursday (my day off). I've ended up at work the last two so if I don't take some action I will end up full time on a part time wage and that will never do!

So - ITB has come up with a lovely route, and I know a very nice pub for lunch so if you fancy, we will meet near Salisbury at around 9.30am.

    Tempted? Are you?
    :D

I'm up for this one... any more details on where to meet etc?

This is the proposed route www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=4090 carefully chosen to allow for the maximum chance of becoming completely and utterly lost as I found is generally the case in Wiltshire.

Time wise 10am would be better after all I am unemployed

Note to self - buy a map before Thursday

Actually scratch that, i'm changing the start/finish to 2 miles down the road at the family farm - free parking and hopefully hot refreshments

PM me and I'll send you the details.

I'm disappearing off the radar and into the depths of Glencoe next week - 26th but should be back by the 4th so don't worry if my cheery comments don't appear for the next few days

Nice route! The Plough in Sparsholt looks like a good lunch stop. And there is a b*gger of a hill near Standon which I've come down often - looks like we get to go up it!
