Needless to say I am somewhat glad my long training rides have all been in sub-zero temperatures.
Only have the precariously blu-tacked leg to slow me down....Emerging from under a big black cloud. All help welcome0 -

I wear overshoes every ride regardless, it sooo muddy here all the time and overshoes are a lot cheaper than shoes.

Hmm the Etape Caledonia does look fun, especially as it's the only UK sportive on closed road - well rolling road closure, make sure you keep up the pace!
It's certainly on my lifetime to-do list, maybe once the kids are MUCH older and I have a MUCH better bike :-D
Speaking of lifelong goals I mentioned the La Etape to the missus the other day and she asked if I was genuinely interested in giving it a go (after I made a comment about taking my bike with us if we get sent to Italy on our anniversary this year). I said I'd love to at least try it as it's huge event and she said maybe for my 30th birthday year I could try it! The best part of that is that will allow me 4 years of training, saving up money and buying new bike and kit That would also put me doing it in the Olympic year!0 -

Oooooh I'm excited for you guys!
But equally glad I'm not doing it. I know, MTFU.....0 -
So my shake down ride revealed the following
Gears skipping - cable tension adjusted to resolve.
Chain suck twice - most likely caused by shifting under load on a steep hill and drive covered in mud.
Zipper on jacket broken - brrrr cold
Most annoying of all squeak from BB back, after 10 miles or so it sounds like a small woodland creature be tortured (don't ask)
Severe speed wobble - could have been the wind
trying to clear your nasal passage with a cold is not so easy - must wash jacket
and my new 36T chainring which just arrived appears to be a 44T MTB chainring, nice work dotbike
Bizarre head/side wind this morning almost lifted me off the road.
Oh yes and COLDRule #5 // Harden The Feck Up.

I had this morning, when overtaking an accelerating bus :shock:0 -
Good I was hoping it wasn't the bike.
My GPS is misbehaving today it thinks my little ride covered 5000ft of climbing I think it would be more like 500ft, so annoying :x
Very strange road names around these parts

Guys, I am most impressed that you all seem to still be doing the ride.
All credit to you. I'd have bailed with that weather forecast0 -

I'm going to see how the weather develops. If it starts snowing, it might not be such a clever idea.FCN 2-4.

It rains in God's Country, and I'm from the coast to boot - a nice climate, but, again, where it rains. When I was growing up, Kent always seemed to be the county which had the snow.FCN 2-4.

Sorry dude, can't, I'm still suffering from very bad swelling under my nose.... resulting in a nose bleed when I tried to overly exert myself (not s_x)...
(went to doctors it's not high blood pressure thankfully).
Good luck to the HOTA riders!!!Food Chain number = 4
