    Any photos CP?

By the way folks, I've stopped looking at the weather forecast for the HOTA, whatever it's like we're still all going to have to MTFU or face eternal ridicule on these pages.

now where did I put my overshoes, race cape, buff, second buff, skull cap, full finger gloves, second, third and fourth base layer and thermos flask?

I'm doomed my SS rear mech limits me to a max sprocket of 25T if I run compact crankset or I could just MTFU and go single speed

    # Max. front difference : 16T(SS), 22T(GS)
    # Total capacity : 29T(SS), 37T(GS)

Go on Attica you can do it

Oooooooooh, I cycled up Toys Hill last year. Got up to 42 mph on a descent somewhere on that ride.

    You're nuts, boys.

numbers - I have found some about my bike

    10-speed, 12 - 25 teeth

    Shimano Ultegra 10spd, 30/39/53 teeth

    Now what do they mean?

HOTA is far too early in the season IMHO, I reckon that would kill me if I tried it now, especially in windy/wet weather. Enjoy fellas.

They mean that you have gearing capable of tackling a cliff face!

Joking aside you are well setup to tackle any climb the hills/mountains can throw at you.

30/39/53 teeth - You have a triple chainset (3 cogs at the front)

10-speed, 12 - 25 teeth – This is your cassette, the cogs at the rear.

So 30 at the front combined with 25 at the back will give you a super spinny gear and 53 combined with 12 will give you a serious MTFU gear (one you’ll probably only ever use going down hill, fast).

That means I'll be walking whilst you're still riding

Is it too later for me to buy a new bike

    Good-o!

I have used that big big one once

Not sure i have ever used the little one but I know I don't use the granny on my commute any more. Good job - I have since realised it's not actually that hilly......

However, I am not jealous of you guys doing this insane ride.

I wish you all the best...

Having too much free time I spent the last couple of days taking apart every nut bold & cable, weighting  cleaning re-greasing and applying the right torque.

Oh how I need to get back to work :(

Latest weather report sun sun sun this weekend in Kent. Remember your factor 50.

Also, I have noticed on the website they have changed the route and it will all be flat.

I hate the spinning when in the 34 and cruising all day in 50 is not an option

I meant to ask before - what the shagging hell are you talking about? 50 is fine! Except on the tricky hills, then you've got 34 to help.

You do know that changing gears on the back makes the ride easier, or harder, right? I am literally gobsmacked at how a 50-tooth front chainring could hamper your cycling enjoyment in any way while cruising. I am an enormous big girls blouse but 50/21 is the lowest gear I'd ever "cruise" in, and that even works with your current hardman 11-21 cassette?

Please, explain, because something isn't making sense.

As i'm sure many of you are aware I used to push the BIG RING  but since various knee and back issues i've seen the light and now spin the small ring, trouble is it feels uncomfortable unless i'm in 34/11-13 which kind of misses the point, i'm well aware I need to improve my technique but meanwhile I've found a much happier medium, I'm using a standard double 53/39 which instantly felt much more relaxed.

Given the HOTA hills I don't think 39/21 would be wise so I bought a 12-25 cassette which I should have had from the start and a 36T replacement chainring for my compact crankset. I understand many bikes are now shipping with 50/36T compact as standard which for me at least make far more sense.

    Guess we'll see on Sunday.

PS. I live in a very hilly area, no more than two miles in either direction and they are 14-17% climbs - no cruising in the big ring around here, not for me at least.
