If anybody is about on the 24th I'll be riding from Brizzle to Nodnol ahem, London for Action Aid Medical Research, gonna get me some scalps!

Anybody fancy meeting up with me for a swift half at the end, I'll be at Chobham Rugby club for about lunchtime.

Morpeth Arms opposite Millbank Tower is decent enough, some outdoor seating as well so all the better for keeping an eye on said velos.

Arrgh.,....I mean BALLS! I seem to have missed everyone again.

Beers next Friday sounds great, Morpeth Arms would be my suggestion as well, it being on routeside and having some outside(ish) space.

Of course, you know what happens if we all finish up and head off west/south-west at the same time - last one home's a big screaming jessy

  • I do wish I could see the scalping after your Friday beers next week! wow.. talk about being discreet and not trying.. everyone will be watching each other like Andy Schleck (no not Evans as his observations and repost seemed lacking entirely).

All of you watching out for signs of "effort" and "trying". Any heavy breath or bead of sweat will be frowned upon.
Thing is, none of you will be playing right..cough cough.

Cap'n pink (why is it Pirate Friday?), welcome aboard (stop it now). I've seen a few roadies around on Scothall and Harrogate rds but tend to be as I'm headin back from Miss 2wg's of a morning from Headingly.

I am going to add the masochist hill into that ride but sadly I'm working from home most of the time now and am moving out of Leeds within a few months..
I know what you meen about the grind up Chapeltown which kicks up at the lights near Pizza Hut and then to the Bike Coop. I used to do that route everyday.. but after getting a flat on rainy night once in Drug-land I decided to change route and also moved house!

PS I love some of those slogans.. my suggestiion is get a big velcro area on yer bag and have a few "Im not trying" "catch me if you can" "if you can read this, your a nancy drafter" slogans velcroed on. A Player then removes a scalp (slogan) when he (or she now with all the fillies recently on 90 inch gears.> WTF?!! respek LIT) glides past. 8)

My vote would have to be for the Blackfriars Pub http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/ ... lackfriars purely for the sub game every night at the junction right outside the door and the oh so sweet long drag back west afterwards but not racing of course.

Well I'll probably be on foot to as I need to get my steed serviced :-( Got out of work Friday to find the back brake touching the rim on one side. I know the wheel was a little wonky but don't remember hitting any huge potholes on the way in :-( Was rideable after a minor brake adjustment but I'm gonna try and get it in for a service and get the BB checked out as it's been making some awful noises! As it's still under warranty I might aswell get it sorted before I have to pay out for a new one or end up stranded!!!

It will however mean I'll need to brave the trains, but as I'll only need to get 1 each way for about 35 minutes I should survive, if it gets to bad I'll put Pro Cycling Manager 2008 on the PSP :-D

    My commuting route http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Home-to-Station-commute-THE-GAME183587

Normally the GAME is over for me at the station however this Friday I took the bike with me and continued from Waterloo along Embankment and onto Soho picking up six scalps along the way, totally made my day but thankfully the extended post race celebrations after work meant it was so late by the time I made my way home that there was no chance of payback thankfully!

Should wearing a heart rate watch effect my FCN?

    Hi guys,

For the last few weeks I've been amazed that the commuting forum is such a cut above the rest of bikeradar (which is itself pretty amazing for a public set of forums) and I'd love to have a beer with y'all. I can't do this Friday - I have to go to Edinburgh to the festival for work - but hopefully you won't all loathe each other/cripple each other in a twelve way pile-up as soon as you all get back on your bikes and you'll fancy doing it again soon.

    it's hard isn't it.
Mate, I doubt you'll get any pity from this lot of unscrupulous descalpers!

By the by, I may have gone and bought a track bike made by Bianchi this evening! 8)
I'm going to be FCN3 soon. I won't fit the aerobar to that though, but if I did, the -1 would get cancelled out by making the bike have less fixedgear vibe about it.. i,e it'd be less in the spirit of basic, sleek fixed and hence more fake.. I put it to you. No actually I'm not putting the aeros on it!

On friday night heading towards the tunnel from CW... I was waiting at the lights which took forever to change I glanced behind me to see quite a few bikes including someone wearing a king of the mountains jersey. I laughed to myself about quipping with him at the tunnel about how he should have done me on the hill.

Traffic lights are green and I'm off, without trying... of course who comes past me... yup, and I laugh out loud as he does me which is a little rude but on closer inspection he's hairless and the red blobs are little cats and he's fast.. I tail him to the tunnel and have a chat, he's only doing 5 miles commute... I feel relived and carry on happy

this morning was my first foray into the game with only one gear, kept a clean sheet, binned a fashionista guy on fixed (one break, white saddle, courier type) with little trouble and a roadie pulled up next to me as we neared the lights and he was asking me about the single gear, nice little chat then I showed him why my fcn was lower than his and binned him sharpish with a nonchalant wave

come on I'm on a SS with Assos top and black rapha hat I've painted the target for you... man up and lets see

I got a handful at the weekend including a roadie, albeit with two panniers. But I was on my 456 so I had a huge fcn, roundabout 11, i also had my new secret weapon, very low profile fast rolling knobblies.

Also is there a modifier for smoking whilst riding, which, seeing as it is a filthy habit, does really add to the i'm not trying look.

Fast fixie overtook me today as I did a different route (Chiswick to Soho via Shebu, Holland Park etc) - sat on his wheel for a few hundred yards trying to figure him out but realised I had to have a go and managed to burn him off with a bit of 27mph fun (though there must have been more of a tailwind than I thought as such a speed for more than 50 yards would normally kill me).

This is a good thing. Think of it as your powermeter.

When it creaks you are putting out the required wattage....

Let us know how you get along. Before you ask no I won't be your Knee Donor.

It's a dead giveaway game wise of course - the tell tale clicking of the rear mech, screams of pain emitting from the frame - you'll struggle to maintain the element of surprise....

You could try and mask your audible profile by making humming sounds and impersonate a car....... Brrrrruuuuuummmmmm..... "Oi! Get orf the road or buy a car!" etc etc etc...
Fixed gear for wet weather / hairy roadie for posing in the sun.

    What would Thora Hurd do?
  • I must cycle past some of you lot as I cross the roundabout over to Lambeth Bridge

I cross that roundabout - heading south, so from Horseferry road straight over. However I often chunter along the embankment from Claverton Street (thanks to the GAME) turning right at Lambeth bridge roundabout, with of course the reverse in the evening. What do you ride, I shall keep my eyes peeled for you.

I've linked to a pic back in the thread somewhere...it's fairly distinctive. Purple 531 mixte frame (which means a slanted top tube which is actually made up of two parallel thinner tubes) with black bar tape and downtube shifters, mudguards and a pannier. Although I know it is an 'Eclipse', it has no name on the frame because the resprayers didn't put the transfers on.

I did over 100 miles (some of them fully loaded) at the weekend cos I went away with some other forummers, so my legs are not in scalping form at the moment!

You're not wrong, I escorted the Better Half to work this morning (Chelsea Bridge to London Bridge) with a tasty 22mph+ most of the way. Verr good for the missus let me tell you

(On an aside, since I mentioned this forum subject and the FCN/Game to her, her average journey times to work have shot up. I can only thank the creators for making my journey in behind her less bar-bitingly slow!)

On turning around and heading back along the Embankment to Northumberland Avenue, I managed a paltry 21-22 most of the way. I blame the wind entirely, that and the 80 mile ride I did yesterday which cooked my legs.

It started out at 22mph, but by the time I had reached my turn off I had dropped to about 19 and had tears in my eyes...once again I blame the wind obviously.

This Game thing has turned my enjoyable commute into a living hell on days like today. No longer shall I enjoy a cruisy Friday night breeze home. I'm too paranoid of being scalped!

Its a funny effect isnt it. Windy this morning, but I clocked my fastest time to work, my highest average speed and my highest max speed. I was bemussed when i had a look at my times etc
