Mickey - what do you use? Those Nokion (sp.?) tyres?

My ice tyres are Schwalbe Ice Spikers, I just swapped back to the Specialised tyres that came with the bike last week. Upside, suddenly everything is easier, I'd forgotten how heavy the ice tyres were when I first put them on. Downside of that is that pedestrians can no longer hear me rumbling behind them.

Hmm. Must have been trying a bit hard when I overtook a Brompton this morning, and I've tweaked a hip muscle. It's a bit annoying as it's also a key one for walking. But I've never had this issue before - I wonder what I did differently?

Fixie or Roadie? Not great fella - Can you get some "Therapy" today? Do you stretch in the morning, before riding?

    Hope it improves.

Anyhoo, Biondino you are in the wars. Post-ride stretching is what you need. Thighs, glutes, hip extensors, IT bands etc all shorten when trained and can cause injury problems eventually.

I got scalped last night for the first time – it’s not a nice feeling!

I was bimbling through Chesham listening to Tangerine Dream on the MP3, whilst admiring myself on board my shiny new Touring Bike in the shop windows. When all of a sudden – WHOOSH!! – a lycra clad, mountain biker with a backpack flies by. Instantly I gave chase only for him to, almost immediately, turn right off the main road. I thought about continuing the pursuit, but came to my senses. I’d only just taken delivery of the bike the previous day and I’m riding it to the Middle East in June. I didn’t want to break it on day two.

I carried on my lonely ride into the countryside and raised a glass of London Pride to my long gone scalp at the Full Moon in Cholesbury.

I could have scalped a woman this morning. But for some reason I hung behind her almost all the way to work.

I could have done it. I wouldn't have been too tired. But she might have taken me again... AND I'm the "all the gear no idea" type in comparison to her - she clearly has done the bike commute for longer yet has a lot less of the shiny bits and pieces that I've tinkered onto my bike.

So I was embarrassed at maybe looking a little bit too keen, clean and shiny. Isn't that rubbish?

Well I had a good ride this morning, hit RP for an early morning lap, clocked an 18:29 anti and was fairly pleased with that. I scythed through the habitual Hi Viz flotsam along the New Kings rd, and hit Embankment at Chelsea, 3 roadies ahead and pop pop pop they're gone. However, I'm aware as I pull away from Battersea bridge that one of the roadies (Blue Trek) has caught up. It soon becomes apparent that this guy is a Cadel Evans aficionado (i.e glued to my back wheel). Now I think I'd seen this guy way ahead of me in RP earlier (Rapha gilet, stands out), he's training as well I think, certainly no commuting gubbins in sight. This could be interesting. I drop a cog and move things up a notch, he sticks with me. We pass Albert Bridge and I go for it, drop the hammer and ramp things up all the way up to 30mph, little look back and the fecker is still there, I'm hoping for a "look" moment but in fact I can't shake him at all. Sadly the duel ends just past Chelsea Bridge as I make my turn for home, but Chapeau fella, although I note you didn't manage to pass me. Pity I wasn't heading for the office as we could have had a decent scrap!

Oh and today's tally, 20 miles in 56:56. Not bad after 5 days of rest and hogging over Easter.

You're being too kind. Drafting involves expending significantly less energy and you were only doing 30mph. Now, if you had had one your 35mph-on-Embankment-moments, and he still sticks with you, then he's probably got a few tricks in his locker and deserves some praise.

That sounds dreamy. Does anyone have G66's number? I'm being serious.

I'm not riding the fixie!! It's just a teeny muscle tweak - the odd thing is it's not only a muscle I've never noticed before, but I wouldn't know how to stretch it even if I had (and I hardly ever stretch for the commute any more). Ah well - 6 miles tonight, I'll see how it feels, and stay off the bike if necessary tomorrow.

Also I'm not *past* 35 quite yet...

No scalps worthy of the name in either direction today, though I did some serious mongering of speed when I got the chance on the way home - comfortably maintaining 24mph on my FCN 9 MTB for quite a distance, only slowing for the red lights. Have been wondering what I could do on a road bike...

OK, so I think I was getting some help from a tailwind at times, but I'm still going to feel smug! :D

    snips

it doesn't taste like bacon on the other hand it can be very good it can also just be cardboard. vegie food is like that.

but some are yes hard plastic looking and tasting, other stuff is good though i don't see much point in it, unlike vegie sausages which can be very nice indeed.

oh and i just passed a fixie with disk wheels far to short handlbars etc, was a look.

I think Bio should amputate the offending limb and leave it at home thinking about what it has done.

It needs to take a good hard look at itself in the mirror.

BIO - just make sure that if it's your unclipping foot you remember to use your one remaining limb or else suffer unclipped egg on face at the lights.

Also I've no idea how you get on a bike with one leg - carefully is probably the answer.

One of BJUK's recumbants is the best solution. Keep one hand of the handlebars to aid balance. Use the spare arm to wave at people in Altura jackets as you pass them.
