An otherwise entirely uneventful commute, lifted slightly by the sight of a bunch of cops in riot gear smashing someone's door in around surbiton.

Thank god I left early, they might have arrested the wife and kids though.

Else where is this video of a runner pulling off the cyclist?
If I know you, and I like you, you can borrow my bike box for £30 a week. PM for details.

Had a strange one in RP last night, went for a ride around the trail after work with a colleague and having left him at Roehampton Gate I rode along the road to Sheen Cross to head over Ballet School way, a couple of guys overtook me travelling line astern that were clearly trying far too hard, having passed the guy in front sat up causing the guy behind to slow and cut me up making me have to brake to avoid the clowns. The second guy turned up towards the ballet school and was giving it his all, I carried on sat a little way back and to one side. he was approaching the woods and blew up spectacularly so I put in a bit more effort and sped past. Looked back a short while later and he was nowhere to be seen.
Slow ride on the pub hack this morning as was supposed to be out after work, now the others have cried off.

Probably best not viewed on a work computer and turn on private browsing.

Er...like me this morning, for instance. Got overtaken by some sort of e-utility/cargo bike on CS3. Thing was like a Sherman tank, ploughing along at around 20mph so rather than a silly overtake I availed myself of a nice comfortable tow.

Was it nice and red and shiny?

Yes, ridden by a bloke in street clothes - have you encountered this beast before?

There did used to be a guy who frequented this forum who does your route or similar who I think got an ecargobikething so could be him. Cant remember his name for the life of me though

I'm more on about nutters drafting vans at 25mph then swerving left when the van breaks almost taking out half the peleton! Saw it more than once this morning

my earlier synopsis was my hearing of a breathless Liam hurriedly trying to explain to me what happened whilst waiting at lights. Turns out I got it completely the wrong way around, RLJers assaulted the runner, who was then helped by non-RLJ-ing cyclists...

  • Did I tell you about the e-biker I overtook the other week?

He was hardly even pedalling as he zoomed along.

The hilarious thing was that he was in full lycra. ! Berk!
  • Speaking of RLJ'ers (like every day) have any morning eastbound commuters come across some white-haired (and bearded) chap wearing very tight short shorts and what appears to be a toolbelt? Seem to pick him up quite regularly around Hyde Park and leapfrog him all the way to Canary Wharf.

Have now lost count of the number of near misses I've seen him cause, but my bigger concern is that his shorts seem to be getting shorter and tighter. Beginning to look like a cheesewire going through a ball of edam.

What's wrong with that? If it's acceptable for you and I to wear lycra while riding to and from the office, what's wrong with someone doing the same thing on an e-bike? They're sitting in the same position, doing the same activity, so presumably lycra has the same level of practicality.

Or is it the case that you need to be exerting yourself at a certain level before lycra becomes acceptable? If so, what is the acceptable minimum level of exertion? Should I switch to baggy shorts and a cotton T-shirt for recovery rides, to avoid upsetting the clothing police?

Really worrying close pass last nigh in RP. A scrambler bike with L plates came within inches of my bars. I was doing 24mph at the time and he came flying past at at least double that. If I had deviated from my line even slightly then there would have been contact.

I have no doubt it was deliberate, so probably not the first or last time he'll be doing it.

Must have been an evening for it. Got close passed and cut up by a driver trying to overtake then halfway through realising there was oncoming traffic. Got hit square on the side of the bars but managed to stay up, she must have heard the bump because she looked in her mirrors to see me gesticulating to which I got a what do you expect shrug.

Anyone on the embankment run ever see a small guy on an old looking white specialized single speed with silver bars. He is about the most aggressive wheelshucker I have ever seen. Seen him a few times recently, he nearly took me out on millbank this morning when he moved out without looking got some grumbles from him after which I told what I thought of his wheelsucking.

    Otherwise much zen!

Had something similar in RP night before last: a car heading from Robin Hood to Roehampton Gate overtook cyclists, giving them plenty of space. The issue was that he was (a) doing it at some speed, and (b) coming straight at me as I was heading in the opposite direction.

Had to put the brakes on and adjust my line to give myself some breathing space.

This morning, a moped man got a bit upset, when, having coming up the bike lane on the approach to Putney Bridge on the Lower Richmond Road and plonked himself beyond the bike box in front of me, he found his intended route up the bike lane on the bridge blocked off because I pulled away faster at the lights (I'm a great lump; I'm not quick off the blocks, so he must have a cr@p moped).

That really narked him. He was very sweary and very animated.

Oh dear, what a pity, never mind.

Came in early with the nice bike. A refreshing amount of space.

You can exert max torque at 0 RPM, so you have a big advantage over internal combustion engines at very low speeds. They're optimised for several thousand RPM, whereas you appear to be optimised for about 40.

Anything electric should also be able to get torque without revs, so you might have a bit more trouble with one of those electric mopeds...

Yep London is flat as a pancake compared to pretty much anywhere else but i'd say that Strava activities lack of elevation has more to do with the device he used "Garmin Vívoactive" tiz why I sold mine very quickly after purchase.

Very enjoyable extra 10 miles into Southbourne (think Chichester) this morning to drop off a bag a family friend left over last night.

Meant that I got to "enjoy" the SCR that is the A259 heading into Portsmouth this morning, and I was definitely left wanting!

update on my mate who got taken out on CS7 last week.

He has facial fractures but it looks like he will get away without surgery provided he eats soft food only for the next month and doesn't blow his nose! (fortunately he doesn't suffer from hay fever).

He also asked me to drop into the Sugar Pot cafe which I've never noticed before but is a lovely little cafe right at the point he got knocked off. They had stored his bike for him and he collected it over the weekend. When he got home he noticed that the water bottle, pump and Garmin 800 were missing so he asked me to pick them up.

Fat chance I thought, they will have gone flying when he crashed and never be seen again but when I popped in this morning they had them carefully stored and handed them over to me and off I went. I must stop there one day soon as it's a great place to watch literally hundreds of cyclists flyby.

Thanks. DD was great. My first time and me and Dizzydane and another eight riders joined the thousands of riders heading north east on Saturday night arrowing towards Dunwich. A great ride and the best way to let you know what it was like (well you know anyway having ridden it previously) is to share the inevitable video, best viewed with sound:

Glad he's ok too. Ive seen that coffee shop many a time but never stop there. Is SCR coffee and cake a thing?

I very much think it is. Rather ironically me and him had stopped at the Island Cafe in Southwark for a coffee last Tuesday and then he solo'd in on Thursday (which is my WFH day) and he crashed.

I quite like the idea of sitting there grabbing a caffeine and sugar hit and waving at you, ABFG and other CS7 regulars as they ride past.

You missed a great DD. Conditions were perfect in terms of temperature, wind, traffic conditions, other riders etc. The only thing that could have been improved would have been a cloud free morning so that we could actually watch the sun rise but hey, i need something to persuade me to do it again and the temptation of actually seeing a sunrise next year may be enough.

Sunset was quite special, If you watched the vid you would have seen this but here's Dizzydane and the sunset, somewhere deep in Essex on Saturday evening #nofilter

Does he wear an orange t-shirt, and weird shoes that may in fact be neoprene wetsuit shoes? If so, I know exactly the twunt - he is a serial RLJ’er and has zero regard for anyone around him. He’s cut me up a few times and literally gives zero f***s, the next time he does it I’m likely to punch his lights out
