Morning off, so did a lap of the park at midday on my way in. I even relented and carried water on my commute. Beautiful.

An absolute classic way to do this is to regrease your hub bearings and add too much grease; that gets squeezed out, finds its way to the pawls, and encourages them to stick. Easily fixed by stripping down, cleaning and lubricating with very light oil; just be careful not to lose the pawl springs.

    Too complicated, and too messy.

Much easier to go with Asprilla's original approach of buying a new bike.
Unless you're single, buying a new bike is *a lot* more complicated and messy than any maintenance job I can think of (except setting up a front mech, which is right up there with moving house and getting divorced).

I'd suggest having all black bikes that look the same.. then Part exchanging them at RoadCycleExchange in Kingston every now and then. Allegedly. ;)

Driving back from Wales this afternoon I noticed a fairly steady but spaced out line of French plated cars stuffed to the brim with blankets, pillows etc. was there some kind of Euro event happening in Wales?

Coming the other was into Wales was four red buses with the destination "Middle Earth"

What’s the FCN for mobility scooters? Asking for a friend....

Joking aside it is nice to see folks use the bike lanes. Bit of a mobile road block but well so be it!

Beautiful ride home this tonight, right up until Hurst Park in Molesey when some dufus attempted a left hook on me and the chap I was waiting to overtake. The car wasnt even close to making it. I can only assume he didn't realise there were to of us close together, but it was still a stupid move.

Was worth it in the end as 100m later I was rewarded with Julian Alaphilippe's scalp. At least I assume that's who it was wearing the maillot jaune as I can't think of another reason why anyone would be wearing it. Anyway, does that mean I'm now leading the Tour?

Sheesh! As if the World wasn't already full of people who can't tolerate different views, along come you lot.

I'm like a big aero engine: Power beyond comprehension, but if I've been going flat out for a bit I have to slow down gently or I'll overheat.

  • Lovely ride in, legs felt 8/10 so gave the New Malden cycle path a squeeze to get a KOM. Plenty of choppers but being a touch early I think I avoided the biggest load of them. My peaceful first 10 minutes was disrupted by a group of deep sectioned riders returning from the hills. Normally you expect these lads to look like they've been spaffed on by the Rapha shop but not this lot, something funny in the air.

Else big shout out CJ for choosing not to splatter Mark Francois on a ped crossing by parliament last night, in terms of gammon spotting you would assume he'd be one shinys in the panini Brexit tw4ts sticker album along with my farrage incident the other other month.

Also: yesterday morning apparently, he is seen most Tuesdays/Thursday 6:30 heading parkwards, be careful out there

Lovely weather made for a lovely ride this morning. It seems the heat got to some people as had a strange encounter at the lights in Barnes where one camera happy guy took great pleasure in videoing and shouting at an uber that had encroached into the bike box. To make matters stranger another rider in the box then started a "they come here and break our rules so should get slung out" style rant. Proper head in the hands moment! Gave both of them a wide berth for the rest of the ride.

Annoying little “off” last evening on the way home. I arrived at the Lambeth Bridge roundabout from Parliament Square direction, where it was the usual jam of traffic choking the whole roundabout from all directions, and lots of cyclists filtering through. Vehicles coming from the right had kindly allowed a gap to open for the bikes to get across. When I got to the front, I duly crossed the gap only to hear from behind me “Whoaaa”, followed by me being hit by a Boris bike coming across from the right. I vaguely recall him saying sarcastically something along the lines of “… the customary rules of the roundabout …”. I, after much wobbling, toppled off my bike, a bit of rubber-scorch on my left shin from my front tyre, and a bit of road rash on my right hip knee and elbow.

The thing is, before I moved I had looked, and I hadn’t seen him. I’m not exactly sure what happened. I think he entered the roundabout from the right at reasonable speed between stationary cars, entered the gap without slowing and hit me. Technically my fault, but I partly see it as him militantly exercising his right of way, and revelling in righteous indignation. Other cyclists around seemed to sympathize with me.

This morning I needed to be in mucho earlier than usual, wow what a difference. Hardly anybody about. I managed 19.3mph elapsed average (20.0 mph moving) for the 19 miles. Even though I had to dismount at both ends of Richmond Park for closed gates.

    Lambeth bridge?

Sounds irritating alright, Boris brakes aren't always the best but being unable to avoid a collision in those circumstances sounds like a lack of circumspection on his part, at best.

It's not even as if they are getting held up, or slowed down, or squeezed by the traffic coming the other way. That is pure aggression. 20mph limit there as well. Should be taken off the road. Won't be taken off the road.

Fairly relaxed ride home this evening - decided to use it as a recovery ride and keep my heart rate below 140 all the way home.
  • Hottest day of the year and have fallen on my sword to trainw4nker so the heavily pregnant wife can get an A/C train. Though quiet, I have a seat and the brommie for the other end, god I wish I was on the bike and not with these mugs.

First day back in this week so fresh legs made for a fun (if warm) commute :D

Apart from the twunt on a bright orange S Works something with deep sections and full Bora kit - with WC stripes - jumping every single traffic light by any means necessary including using the pavement with waaaaay too much pace. Total idiot. Really wound me up for some reason! I think after a few days off I forget how to zen on the roads... (and I still caught and passed him eventually 8) )

Edit: I just checked, Alejandro is still in France so it wasn't him. Weird.

Time trialling last night. Riding flat out in an unvented helmet, visor and black long-sleeved skinsuit was pretty unpleasant...

I was too hot on Tuesday on the ride home, so totally pootled it. On the flip side, I did change my route to add in an additional climb (Sydenham Hill up to Crystal Palace). Yesterday i was ooop North (well the Midlands) so obviously didn't cycle. I took one look at today's 38 degree forecast and decided not to cycle today.

I saw the forecast temperature and thought "I'm not going anywhere near public transport".
  • An apology.....

I'm not a regular commuter by bike, but when I do I try to as Zen as I can, respect others etc etc. So yesterday morning I was riding in, through RP on to Lower Richmond Road. A bit of traffic and we [cyclists] were trying our best to get through. I popped between two cars, looked, but missed seeing a fellow cyclist, as he went past he got my attention, no foul no drama. As we carried on along LRR I got it in to my head that it was my bad and should apologise, so followed him hoping to apologise. He got caught at the lights by Putney bridge, I looked to get next to him so I could apologise. As I did another cyclist came up my right side holding a fixed line, forcing me left so I end up looking like an idiot slotting in to a space that's not there, lights go green, we ride off and the target for my original apology comments 'cycling etiquette'. He had a French accent, grey curly hair and looked like a career cyclist (i,e, the type we all respect).

If you are reading this and you are he... sincere apologies for the original faux pas.
