Come on...Colliers Wood, DT, Balham, Clapham then E&C. Unless you're scared of a little Dragon?

Used to do this route back in 2002. The coming together with a coach at Stockwell remains a vivid memory.

So I'll pass on that one, thanks.

Stockwell is now somewhat segregated. Might be worth another look.

Catching up on your beauty sleep, eh !!!!

Zero idea what they are doing on Putney Bridge, it seems pretty minor stuff but seems to be taking ages to finish. The NKR work seems to be a re-work of the junction, again taking absolutely ages.

Caught a bloke on a 'Dale road bike going over Kingston Bridge, sat behind him as no room to pass and was next to him at the lights to turn right towards Teddington. He seemed to put in a bit of effort when the light went green so rather than racing off the line I dropped back and let him carry on. He was too slow so I soon passed him anyway. Got to the ped gate for Bushy Park and was through before he arrived. I went the long way round on the gravel path, I assume he rode up the path. I passed him again as he was climbing the col du Hampton Hill, must be all of 1% for nearly 100 yards. Considering I was on my pub hack MTB with rack, pannier, mudguards and reasonably knobbly tyres he really should have been quicker than that. I need to re-fit the toy plane on the handlebars to complete the humiliation when I pass roadies on that.

Heads-up: traffic in Norbiton, Kingston and Surbiton a bit rogered due to the discovery of an unexploded bomb in Surbiton, near Kingston Uni.

The state of rogeredness will continue into tomorrow.

Not too bad from the bridge to Richmond Road, I suspect the other side of the one way is worserest.

No real SCR here in Edinburgh for a change, but gosh, to the lad I met this morning with Zipp 202's on his way to Peebles, I hope you had a lovely day. Sunny all the way if a bit breezy!

Man down on Priory Lane, about 50 yards after the turning off the URR, on the Park-bound side. Police were stopping traffic from turning up Priory Lane. Anyone know what happened? Looked bad :(. Hope the fella's ok.

I didn’t see what happened but when I came through he appeared to be in the recovery position and I think was talking to the group of peds gathered around him, or they were talking to him at least. He certainly wasn’t moving much so I hope it wasn’t too serious

Rode through before the police had arrived. No idea what happened but hope he’s okay. He wasn’t moving much, but plenty of people helping and offering support. Fingers crossed.

Looked like a left hook, but can’t be sure.

Also, we all know how drivers love a good loophole to let them get away with speeding, close passes or generally doing whatever the heck they want, so I was wondering what the "SCR community" thought about this loophole to skip a red light.

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.48429 ... 384!8i8192

If you want to turn left here, the cycle specific lights are often red for a long period while the cycle specific lights for straight on are green. Looking at the road markings, you cannot cross the stop line on a red light so would need to stop if turning left, however if you continue in the straight on you can legally cross the other stop line then make an immediate 90 degree turn to go left.

There aren't any signs forbidding a left turn at this point and technically you haven't broken any laws so in my view you can get away with it on a technicality even though it clearly isn't within the spirit of the law / the design of the junction.

Disclaimer: the lights for the left turn are red for a pedestrian crossing phase in which there is almost always no pedestrians in sight. I'm not advocating doing this when there are actually pedestrians on the crossing which of course should always have priority. Doing this around people could also enable you to be (deservedly) done for careless / dangerous cycling.

Yeah, fairly quiet on the roads. Everyone that stayed at home missed out on a lovely morning.

Same here; you couldn't reasonably argue that you genuinely thought it was ok; it's too obviously taking the p*ss.

From a legal perspective, I suspect it's the same as the left turn into the Embankment Superhighway from Westminster Bridge Road; the difference there is that, assuming you're in the main part of the road, there's no obviously better alternative.

Anyone know what the rules are for the "cycle crossings" that are starting to spring up, like this one on New King's Road? I can't find any mention in the Highway Code.

You don't have to start giving way to someone on a zebra crossing until they're actually on the crossing; does the same apply with the bike crossings? One of these crossings has just been built near me, and I've seen a few instances of cyclists emerging from a gap between buildings at 15mph or more, and expecting to be able to sail straight across the road without slowing down...

I believe its' the same - formally you have to be "on" the crossing to get priority.

We've had one installed here in Portsmouth in the last month and I believe we've had a number of collisions already on it...

Not surprising. It's annoying enough when pedestrians walking along the pavement with their backs to you do a 90 degree turn out onto a crossing in one step.

Anyone riding even at a gentle pace will give you even less time to react, plus due to the speed they will be coming from an area outside the usual envelope that people consider when driving ("they came out of nowhere")

Eight days in Spain eating and drinking too much and not doing any exercise meant I had a sloooowwww commute in today, my first day back in the office.

Unsurprisingly, no SCR. Well actually there was plenty on offer but none that I had the legs to get involved in.

Strange then that I had two encounters...

    - slowing to a stop at a set of lights and pulling in behind the fish on the kerb side another rider sees that I am obvs a player and offers me the outside lane. Nah mate, I'm tekkin it easy today
    - arriving at work and stop at the security manned barrier, just like i have done for ten years and security guy goes 'set a PB today then?'. I mean seriously, you never speak in ten years* and today of all days you want to ask me about my times...

(* in fairness I've never seen this particular guy before but y'know...)

Yeah. It's why beg buttons should be there for car drivers, not pedestrians ;)

Advice from the Portsmouth City Council, (https://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/ext/parki ... portsmouth), is below:

Guidance for using a tiger crossing

    Pedestrians and cyclists

    Follow the guidance below:
•Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross.
•Always check that the traffic has stopped fully and the road is clear before crossing.
•Pedestrians should always cross over the zebra markings and cyclists on the marked cycle area. Do not cross at the side of the crossing or on the zig-zag lines, as it can be dangerous.

    Drivers and other road users
•When you approach the crossing, look well ahead and reduce speed to allow more time to spot approaching pedestrians or cyclists.
•If pedestrians or cyclists are approaching the crossing, stop your vehicle just before the broken white lines to give way. Pedestrians and cyclists have the right of way to use a tiger crossing.

Half term, and Queen's Ride and the Lower Richmond Road were back to pre-Hammersmith Bridge closure levels of traffic at 0830 hrs today i.e. clear, with traffic queues really only starting by the Grind café on the LRR.

What was going on with the scooters yesterday evening? As I rolled up to Vauxhall Bridge around 1820, 2-300 scooters were occupying the opposite lanes all tooting horns and moving slowly.

Interesting one while running with the dog this lunch... A roadie on a Cannondale came hurtling down Ham Cross hill towards the gate yelling, swerved around the front of a car which was stopped, queuing, and started yelling at the driver through the passenger window...

Driver jumps out and goes all cockney hooligan, yelling "yer after me are yaaa??? Come on thennn!!!!" marching quickly round the car towards said roadie with his fists raised..

Roadie picks up his Cannondale and runs away up the hill in his cleats. Tickety, tack...
