On one hand I gutted I can't ride this weekend as I don't have the bike with me and I can see the edge of the Sierra Navada from the hotel.

On the other, it is 24 degrees and the beer is €1.50

    Quiet around here lately!

Did a nice 35mile ride on the weekend which involved a comical SPD related incident. To cut a long story short i basically got cramp in both legs about a mile from home (still in the woods) and couldnt unclip because of it....resulting in a humorous cartoonesque fall sideways onto the floor.
    Whyte 905
  • hahaha! i had a similar issue when riding with a couple of guys few weeks back! Major cramping, get of bike legs cram,p even worse, like a peverse sence of cycling torture! haahha!

Not a good feeling is it?!

Weather is looking horrendous - again. Do you know where we have to park on Sunday??
    Whyte 905
  • weathers bl##dy awful hey!!
sunday is homebase carpark, corner closest tot he roundabout, out the way of the main carpark for the store use, (as you pull into the car park, straight across and in that corner!) half 9 start, hopeing for a good turnout as its a good mixture on this ride, going to be a 'little' muddy though me thinks!!

haha awesome, mud is what it's all about for me! I've got a mate who has been riding with me the last couple of weeks - fit enough to do a 35 miler but not massively confident on technical stuff. Shall i bring him along or will it be a tough ride? I'm looking forward to this weekend! Provifing my bike is back with me!
    Whyte 905
  • bring him along fella! the more the merrier! the techy stuff is all walkable, only way to gain the skills is to try it! but all is walkable if so!"

Really enjoyed the ride and everyone was really welcoming - definitely want to get out again with the club. How much is it to join Timmo??
    Whyte 905

You get 4 rides with the club before we ask for membership for insurance reasons,
The freindly banter is always there in the club, its all about having a laugh with your cycling mates with on good rides!

Went for my exploratory club ride setting ride finder ride today. 22+miles and 3+hrsl. Just a tad sore afterwards!

Great news is the stuff that takes us all the way from porthleven to the outskirts of leedstown, with about 2 ish miles of road max and an epic 200 m climb at beginning.

Bad news is I got to leedstown and the trails just seemed to vanish. Plenty of footpaths but hardly any bridleways. Found bits to take me towards drym, but then to the edge of praze and beeble to near crowntown was road. Another bridleway filled me with glee, only to be a muddy rutt filled horse ruined unridable trail that just headed down to a main road. From here to lowertown, ROAD and MORE ROAD. I then used the lowertown to helston trail and then penrose trails to head home. I now hurt. It's a good hurt tho. Slightly disheartened by lack of world rocking club awing ride for all my effort.

NB:- I went mapless so could only SPOT bridleways and had to think with my head where on earth to go. It was kinda fun.

Continuing on the muddy bike front:

Dang - Not quite beat timmo there. Still my bike is a tad bigger, so more effort to get muddy!!

  • Haha! Nice one Rich! Saw the pics on fb, made me smile, Mud is good!!!
Sounds like a good ride though, trouble with the maps are that they often have trails marked as footpaths and foot paths marked as bridleways! Certainly doesn't make it easy to spot good ones when they have three different items for the same thing!
The coast to coast comes up as a footpath! As do the bridleways from wheal pevor down to cambrose!
Hey ho! Did like the gratuitous shiny bike pic on fb too btw! Gave mine a scrub up this morning , certainly needed it lol! All is good in shiny bike land!

Just had Gary round to check my bike - already knew I needed a new cassette and chain (on order) and was expecting a new middle ring was needed but...

Outer ring very worn too and BB knackered so a new crankset needed (works out about the same and means I have spares from the SLX one)

    Gone for XT this time.

Rear hub dying - needs a rebuild and possibly new hub.
Brakes are pretty awful - he's got some new Juicy Carbons I might well buy off him.

So new cassette (SRAM 990), chain (SRAM 991), chainset and BB (XT), hub (might go Chris King) plus overall service, fitting, etc.

    So that'll be £400++ then - yikes!!

    All worth it though
  • Matt, are you going for a coloured cassette spider then?? Uber blingy for your ride baby!!!!

atleast you know the bike will be tip top after all that!!!

Gone for one with a red spider - you can't NOT have it coloured!!
  • Haha! Good man! And! It would be rude not to!! I've been really tempted even though I don't need one! Lol
I just like the way the colour shoes through from angles and behind! Uber cool!
