  • Hopefully I will be able to do the killer loop on Sunday all being well. That carpark will be nicely full up by the looks of it.

Had a nice ride this morning from Deerpark wood through to Lansallos and 4 miles of coastal path and back had a play in the woods for a bit, 25 ish miles in total mostly off road. Got caught in the rain the last hour so no more dry trails here :(
Its not what bike you have, its how you ride it that matters. Get out there!
  • yeah defo an end to the dry trails now! was cracking early in the week,

have just fixed my RF bottom bracket, realise the reason it was so grumbly and bad was one of the bearings had a crack through it! that wont help hey lol!

bit of a delay on the shiny things side but hopefully next week will be a good one!!!

You're right about the coast shot not being on a legal trail.

Then again, I 'believe' it would be a better ride coming from the other direction.

  • how was thye killer loop mark?? had a nose at the pictures on FB. looked a Good turn out, and great weather for it!

had a good laugh yesterday, one of andy's specials, the stupidly deep long muddy section between hawkins in blackwater and the little chapel, i made it 2/3 the way through, gutted didnt make the last bit lol, second one got half way in, stepped of the bike and it just stood there upright halfway between hubs and crown deep in water/mud hahahah! and the forks decided to looose all pressure in one leg and my shock pump dies so spend 7 miles on 30psi in one leg and thats it! hahah! great for climbing, but unity wasnt all that much fun!
good group of us out though(14), usual humour and p##s taking throughout! 8)

Sounds great - I do miss the group rides but it's so much easier to do rides in the week!

Surfed Friday and yesterday though - both good sessions and spent the night trying to stop water pouring out of my nose - I have the nasal equivalent of a camel's hump for water storage.
  • hahahha! sounds like you decided to paddla Backwards through the waves then matt!
have to say, has looked Lovely out the past few days, nigh on empty clean waves,

Dartmoor was a 25 mile very hard route.

Very knackering - av 6 mph.

    Downs were steep & rocky - ups were . . . . . oh yeh, steep, wet & rocky!!!!

    Very hard ride.

First 10 miles seemed to take forever. Had a couple of guys who hadn't ridden longer than an hour in one go. They really struggled with the terrain.

I think the best description is challenging. It was great fun at times, but the only 'easy' bits where the occasional short road links. The ground varied from soft & peaty to wet & slippy with lots of bolders & rock gardens to ride (again slippy).

All in all it was a lot of fun and very satisfying to finish it.

I found our shorter Dartmoor ride (ages ago) quite challenging and I think we only did 14-15 miles (much of it walking/fording rivers!)!

    Many breakages this time Mark?
  • sounds like a good challenge then mark,
is nice to hear from people who you know can ride what their interprtation of it is, often wonder the killer loops etc. who makes them and there riding style is, wether they are racers or not!
dont worry though, not something i intend on doing!!!

Big Nige B did the chacewater killer loop with uslot 18 months back i guess, that was a good ride but nor what i would have considered a Killer loop, Damn good one mind,

Not bad then. I think we could have halved (or better) our ride time if there hadn't been so many busted bikes!

TIme for a very wet and horrible road run...

Oooo shiny! How long did it take to fit all the bits?

I've just set up my shock and fork for the first time since i've had the bike  Good to hear you'll be going on the kings wood ride Timmo. Never been in there, what kind of trails are they??
    Whyte 905
  • would have taken me significantly less time had i done it down the bike shop rather than home lol! but removal of old forks and crownrace about 5 mins, fitting crown race to new forks, test fit and measuring steerer to cut and cutting about ten mins and then bunged it all together with some spacers so i can fine tune it to where i like it, longest time was fitting the discs as ive gone from ISIS to post mount, have hope adaptor but is for post to 180/5 and have a 203mm rotor, much faffing with all manor of bits to try and fit and giving up and fitting the old 180mm rotor took around 2 hours i guess, in and out the shed a lot,
popped downt he shop this morning for a brew, pump up my tyre which deflated itself and track pumps are much handier lol! and picked up a post mount +20mm adaptor then it took prolly an hour of fitting and adjusting to get it right,
had i done it down at the shop i recon it weould have prolly been 2 hours and all done,

kings woods has a lot of stuff hidden away, a nice long climb up tot he top and then some good loopy style tarcks and a good long aorund the top line and drop down to the bottom one, then some slippy nice ST through the trees and out by the Last bit for traffic to get to, si's rides are nmomally spot on, will be a good one!

Sounds like hard work to a non mechanically minded person like myself! Have you had chance to try the new bits out yet? It's been horrendous weather so i guess not...

Looking forward to the kings wood ride next sat. For this weekend i've got a ride to cardinham planned. The woods is about 10 miles from my house so i am going to ride there, have a good blast around the woods and then ride home. I did the same route last weekend and actually found some good trails that are off the beaten track. My legs felt it by the time i'd finished though, think it was about 29 miles overall.

Anyone got a good ride planned for this weekend? Saturday is going to be the best bet weatehr wise by the looks of it...
    Whyte 905
  • next sunday fella lol! kings woods should be a good uN!
there's a lot about cardinam, a lot of routes of the normal tracks too,

yeah got out for a Quick one earlier, dropped the littlun off at pre school, shot down the route across the field opposite and then round the back and down through illogan woods, out to the barn for a cuppa! Very muddy, but a nice little test ont he forks, and all seems good!!
Bike Feels Alive witht hem on, just feelw like it want more and more! and the 203mm rotor upgrade is Awesome!! So much more power over the 180's!
