Dt swiss are a good option, hopes will require you to use a cassette with an alloy spider, xt/xtr probably don't use cartridge bearings cup and cone i believe.

Btw i saw that scoob you were on about, yup it is very similar to mine, it parks near the truro lane in callenick.

I went to the truro race for a nice and it was nice, i was itching just to get in there but i didn't feel up to it, i think i over exercised and it put me out of commission for a while, slowly getting there though.

I think hazel did alright haven't read the results she was in expert class mind and rightly so.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

So I'm looking at something with sealed bearing (preferably) - XT (not sealed), XTR and Hope 2 seem about the right "level." Anyone prefer any of these or anything else up to £150?

XTR is supposed to be very good, but don't forget to factor in either a Avid centrelock disc (circa £40) or a 6 bolt centrelock adaptor.

The bike is utterly brilliant! I matched my record time for my 12.5 miler without even trying (I previously half killed myself to set it) - brakes are about 325234525 times better and the shifting is now rifle bolt accurate and quick. I know it's a bit gay but with the black brakes and red "accents" (red cassette spider, red bits on the brakes) it looks really trick too.

Got a Mavic xc717 rim on Hope hub on it's way - should be fitted Friday or Monday. That will make the bike exactly as I want it. Cool!

Dazza - that Scoob is very similar isn't it?! I noticed it was for sale - seems to have gone now. Having some comedy cars trying to race the Bimmer recently - loads of 2.0TDI Audis and VWs (with half the bhp) and even a Saxo VTR off the lights - LOL!
  • sounds good matt! like its now running how its meant to!
now the question is!!!!! dod you go for red or black hub?????? 8)

the pro2/717 is a great xc rim set up!

Did Idless yesterday. Went out pretty early (8.30ish) from home (4 miles) and it was flipping freezing but soon warmed up.

Absolutely love the place when it's dry! Bike going very well indeed - climbs are easier and descents much quicker thanks to being able to brake later/harder. My bike really has been turbocharged!
  • Sounds good matt! Love the woods when they are dry, did tehidy on tuesday and it was absolutely Smokin! Sooo fast to ride, absolutely Awesome! Loved it!

Bissoe this sunday if anyone fancies it, Meeting at the layby opposite Smokey Joe's Cafe, scorrier, Should be a good one with any luck! will take the big camera with me as its always a good one for photo's! (directions on the main club site if anyone needs them!)

Not posted on here for a few weeks, glad to hear everyone's out making the most of the sun!

Intended on joining the Bodmin ride last week but couldn't make it due to family commitments. Was gonna join the Bissoe ride this weekend, but am opting to do a 35 miler instead as I'm off to do the Dyfi Enduro next weekend (not that 35 Cornish miles equates to 35 Welsh Wales miles but it's the thought that counts!).

Anyone else here doing the Dyfi ?

I picked up bike no. 5 a few weeks back...if you see anyone riding around on a Kona Ute, it's most likely to be me :D

Chucked an slx on as the Xt cassette they had at the barn went on a bike yesterday! so will see how i get n with it! thinking may need to put new rings up front too soon! still. if you use thoese things they wear out hey! 8)

Lol! Got it on 'ahem' Bike2Work scheme via Bike Chain. Got a second pannier on order due next month to balance the back end out. Makes shopping trips more fun anyway. Once my daughter's sitting up straight on her own, I'll be getting a child seat on the back :)

  • Good fun sesh in bissoe/poldice today, dropped in the top of unity and group split, half for the down the middle and half down the Very edge (turn Left as soon as you get in from the top), those of us that went left had the better route for sure! Super fast, awesome ride down through the woods, Baring one boggy dip was Dry as a bone, absolutely spot on!!

had a play on the section up by the old buildings and then moved on and up to mars, then up for the Freeride/downhill sections, lots of fun despite messing up the first avoid the jump and scraping my knackers on the back of the saddle a few times!
but some Great runs, a few good spills too, and then a final Howl is best to describe it Down the Downhill run from the top, Awesome in the bone dry that section!

    anyways, some pictures for yoU!

Appologies for the rain on the lense, but i'd run out of dry things to uyse to dry it!!!

shame there was a severe lacking in sunshine as really brings the place out! but a good laugh none the less, saw a fair few other kitted up xc'ers out - possibly Chodski's?? but bissoe/poldice is rarely one to dissapoint! that said, we got away with only 3 spills and 2 flats, (the 3 spills were all the girls! and nasty ones! one wheel washing out on the wall ride, one accidental leap of the Gap jump and washing out o landing resulting in a knee floor contact hard! and one Oh No i'm not going to make it jab of the brakes and a spectacular nose down cartwheel, fortunately a Lot less serious than it looked!!!)

mid week sesh at Idless on wednesday, 6pm following the race route from two weeks back, then a Mount Hawk ride Sunday, boat turn and pasties! Nice!!!

    Hello all.
Nice to see some pics up Timmo. Looks like a lot of fun there. I have only done the Devoran to Portreath trail once but dont think I ventured far enough from the main track to find all this stuff.

I have been having no end of trouble with my Stumpy of late. Seals on forks blew out few weeks ago then jockey wheels bearings collapsed now my shock has spewed out a load of oil and I cannot change the lockou/pro pedal/open switch on it!! Certini have been good for getting it repaired under warranty but its a pain in the rear having to drive to Saltash every couple of weeks to drop it off then pick it up too! At least I have a spare ride! Desparately want it back for the end of the week as have a 40+ mile Dartmoor ride planned for Friday!

Loving this weather as Im sure everyone else is, I know we had a bit of rain over the weekend but hopefully its going to be nice all week again. Have figured out a 35mile ride with about 750m climbing from my house around Kings woods, bit of coast path (naughty), Luxy valley, some clay trails and finishing up with a nice single track decent through Gover valley. Gonig to Afan in a few weeks so want to be fit for that! Bit more climbing involved for Skyline though, I think its 2000m over 45km!! Wo!
  • AJ!! your still with us!!
wondered wht had happened to you! Not such good news on the bike though, but, with anyluck that'll be it done for now!!

yeah, if you ride through on the C2C trail you'll miss All the good bits!
you'll have to pop down one day and will show you some of the good bits!!! there's Loads of tracks there, the dh/freeriders have been busy!

Yeah still around mate. Been busy with trying to buy a house!!! What a nightmare. Well I say buying a house, I wish we were that far on getting a mortgage has been enough "fun" already. I say Ive been busy, thats too busy for forums but not too busy to get out riding. Went to Dartmoor last Sunday, Bellever/Dartmeet area, and been doing my local loop a couple of times a week. May well take you up on that offer mate. Got the day off on 5th May for the next scan, could be on then if you are?
  • yeah yeah! 5th may sounds good! will be free from 10-3 when the littluns at preschool! should be good to show you most of it!!

Going to struggle to get there for that time. Scan is at 9.50 and will take 20mins or so. Then have to drop missus in Camborne. Dont worry mate I'll probably do a coastal ride with some Hayle townas mixed in and possible Tehidy.

the coast path section from Northcliffs to portreath is a good un, operfectly legal too!
the first descent is Rideable all the way tot he bottom if you stick to the right, second one isnt really due to the steps, but the third one down into the cove besodes portreath is a cracker!! 8)
