Lovely ride to Bissoe then towards Portreath, around the mines and back (from home) yesterday. The cafe at Bissoe was PACKED - they are certainly onto a good thing there. Decent sarnies and coffee in the sun - very pleasant.

Then a ride this morning so 35ish miles in 24 hours - hardly the Tour de France but feeling it a bit now.

I saw the elusive Dazza ride past the cafe - he appeared to not recognise me (!) and rode off. Is anyone still in touch with him? He seems to have disappeared of the face of the Earth in terms of contact with "us" lot.

Mark - up for local races but that's a bit far. And full of Northerners...:lol:
  • matt, i still speak to him from time to time, but i know he likes to ridse on his own now as doesnt have to ride at anyones else's speed but his own!
know he lost a Shed load of weight though!!

just out playing with my forks! heheheh!

He has slimmed a huge amount - impressive!
  • Nice ride yesterday up on Bodmin Moor, weather was cracking and trails were nice and dry (didn't even need to wash the bike afterwards!). It was a late start due to someone's brakes needing fixing in the car park right at the start so the ride was fairly short, although those that didn't need to get back carried on for an extra loop. Good turnout - 19 people I think.

Unusual moment of the ride had to be the rescueing of a sheep stranded down a pit in an engine house!

Pink gps that sounds a bit dodgy, not thinking of turning are we tim? ;)

As for riding on me own, i just prefer it that way though liz is pushing me to ride with the one & all group i'll probably give it a miss, was great to see rach though i haven't seen her for an age so had a good natter with her.

As for being quiet on rides that's usually down to my mp3 player blaring out, i like to switch off and get on with a ride only problem is that's usually when people want to talk to me, never when it's off!!

I was very tired mind, usually when that happens i like to be left alone as i can get snappy, did two hours in the gym on saturday then four hours in the saddle yesterday, i was just a smidge knackered good fun though, i had a play around unity woods and did that steep climb helen & jane like to kill me on.

Like i said in the other thread matt i had no idea you were there, id have said hello otherwise. :)

Oh i mean to add that commuter that folded his bars, i saw the aftermath of that the other day, mark is it? anyway made a right mess of his leg and only at 4mph?!
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

TBH Dazza, you have done such an impressive job of slimming that I had to do a double take! But the shiny Giant with Rebas can only belong to you!

It's the guy from CM (thought he was called Adrian?) who did himself in - looks terrible. Poor bloke.
  • whats this about a commuter, folding bars in and blood???????

You know what the irony is, despite slimming so much i still feel like a fat bugger.

I now wear 32" jeans and they literally drape off me.

Adrian was it, never did quite know his name anyway poor bugger.

Oh tim it's that big guy in clive mitchells, when he went to stop at a junction his bars decided to fold in on him while he was clipped in which pretty much mullered his left lower leg tib/fib plus all the tendons associated, it'll be a very long time before he's back up and running.

Wife saw him when he did it - she went to help but there was someone there already and an ambulance was on the way. Hadn't realised until I popped in last week how serious it was!

  • Kernowaj - not sure how 'legal' it is to ride there (not very I suspect as it's an SSSI!) but I go for a play in there sometimes and have never had any bother.

Flippin eck this morning's ride was FREEZING! A real shame that the ground that had just about dried out is now marsh-like again. Don't mind a bit of mud but the ride earlier was like navigating an Irish bog. Still good but it was one of those that was a bit of a "test."

I rode up to Threemilestone for a meeting this morning.

Cold on the way up - but warm on the way back.

Thanks Orena. I wont be going there regularly so I think I'll just plead ignorance if I do get collared. Used to go there every weekend Mountain Boarding (if there was no surf) and did used to get a little confrontation from time to time, usually from someone who had just walked away from their dogs steaming turd.

No one doing Soggy Bottom this weekend then???

I think you'll find Kyle (on here) and Kevin (CTR) will be down there.

Do you not think that riding with an iPod playing is a bit dangerous?

It's like you can hear if anyone is behind you, or if someone is shouting to their dog who is just about to run across the trail etc.

  • if i'm on my tod i have the mp3 on, but at a level that i can hear the replies from walkers from my Overly Cheery Hello's!! also so that i can hear traffic, just find that a bit of music is nice to keep the flow when on my own, dont like it too loud as it then distracts from the riding!

    29 hard miles this morning.

After riding about 20, we decided it would be a good idea to climb (and descend) Carn Marth and Carn Brea!!!!

Hope the guys doing Soggy had a good time and more importantly, good results.

  • good milage mark!

ours was just on 15 but with the climbs back up on the coast route made it feel a lot more! Awesomely slippery on the last drop down to portreath! performed a crackin 180 on the top very funny!!! good ride though, only 12 out so not one of the bigger ones but a lot of fun!

Mid table obscurity I think. Haven't seen the results yet. It was brutal. Couldn't get going on the first lap and a half. Two major running sections because of the mud. Fell off on one steep down hill section in my warm up lap and 3 of the 4 race laps. Add in a swim in one of the river crossings (in front of an appreciative audience) and another fall and i think the take home message is that I didn't cover myself in glory.

Sounds like you had a tough time.

Mid table in the Vet class is no disgrace - it is rather competitive . . . . well done mate.

BTW you missed a killer ride today.

Kyle - that sounds tough! How are the legs today? Mid table is a lot better than bottom table!

Tempted to try to Perranporth Tri this year - sounds hard but good.

Another muddy ride this morning but fairly pleasant.
  • sounds like a good result to me Kyle! good on ya!

I pulled a muscle in my chest on Thursday (which for a while I thought was some sort of heart attack. Scary  .) went to the docs had an ecg, turned out ok. This unfortunately meant I couldnt do Soggy Bottom  . Gutted, was really looking forward to it.

Timmo, Im down your way on Wednesday if you fancy going out. I will be down there about 11am and need to be in Portreath for around 3. If your not on where would you recommend for a good route?

    AJ
  • Aj, could do matey, weather depending, could do a a route around tehidy etc. timings are good as drop the littlun at pre-school at 10 and have to pick her up at 3,
drop me an email at timATphyall.co.uk and sort out meeting etc!

pulling a chest muscle is nto nice!! i bruised my intercostals a while back during a crash, thought it was ribs, docs thought the same but fortunately wasnt so! but my word did it hurt!!

  • You get transitional pain with any injury where pain radiates up nerves and affects other areas. When I dislocated my shoulder, I had dreadful lower back pain bizarrely! In the chest it does tend to radiate up to the shoulder and occasionally the into the arm. In a real MI it's usually down the LEFT arm but the pain sometimes radiates into the jaw and face.

When you get a pain in the chest and arms it can easily be taken as a heart attack, but without the classic clammy cold sweating. Any 'chest' pain will still cause anxiety and palpatations as in a real MI well, understandably it's kinda worrying!

Bruising intercostal muscles also isn't all that nice! They get a lot of use as they play a supporting role in breathing alongside the diaphragm. It's also easy bruise the ribs alongside and other organs too. When I last came off at poldice valley I did ribs, liver and stomach. That kinda made eating and breathing painful!

I wish I could come with you guys on wednesday to tehidy, but I'm in wales being lectured geeky science stuff. Well thats if it doesn't snow, if it snows I'm leaving!!
