    ? :?: ?

Trying to place ads for a client. Put of ten papers called, only three have been any help. It's like trying to buy a laptop from PC World - frustrating.

In fact I can't believe how many sales people are useless at their jobs - when they have someone call in with money to spend and STILL muck it up, they need firing.

    End of mini rant.

No please continue, gives me something interesting to read. ;)

Firggin b grade gear, missing a turbo stick i need to use my ddr2, so now im being forced to buy ddr3 to get up and running oh dear......

    Still a £200 motherboard for £80 i can't really fuss. ;)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

We just have laptops that seem to work fine.

Anyone else spotted the Trojan flying around? Our net security has blocked it twice this week but a mate got done by it - messages sent out to everyone on his address book.

Sorry about the random rant - I just hate poor salespeople. There is a recession on yet people employed to sell so often can't even carry out a basic task.

Back to bikes - lovely ride this morning - windy but nice and sunny. Our route has gone from semi to very technical with all this rain and wind!

Would come along but in S Ireland drinking Guiness and hopefully surfing Inch Reef
Not taking bikes but running shoes will be packed.

Bit of a wet and miserable ride this morning - my 2 month old Sealskinz are leaking in both toes so my feet froze and it's just SO wet everywhere. Nice to get out but wouldn't mind a wee break from this minging weather!
  • matt, i think thats a fairly decent enough excuse haha! not at all jelous!!!

well managed to get the bike washed down and cleaned up to a state that does actually resemble a bike!! so atleqast quite please with my achievements for the day hahaha!

have to admit my sealskinz didnt help much in idless, toes were bitter!! but, i didnt have the overshoes on which would have helped a smidge! trouble is my shoes are tight on the toes with them on, ideally need a pair a size up again or atleast with slightly wider fitting, but, that aint going to happen for a while!!
could always put the old cleats on the cannondale shoes ive got int he shed (more like trail shoes than the shimano ones,)and use them if its truely nasty!! hmmmn,

off to kill some time looking at bike bits on ebay that i Really dont need (nor afford!!) 8)

Radio Cornwall bigging up a new trail centre at Lanhydrock (where Mrs Matt's uncle is head gardener handily!)/Cardinham. Could be interesting.

Sounds like Cornwall is finally getting a few quid (£7.5 million in fact!) thrown at it for us MTBers.

Hopefully it should be good, but the plan is for off road cycling for beginners and intermediates. That may mean dull trails. I think the £7.5M is for the whole of the SW not just for Cornwall. There is more on the 1SW http://www.1sw.org.uk/section.php/51/1 and More Dirt http://www.moredirt.co.uk/article/World-class-off-road-cycling-across-South-West/1287/ websites.

The delivery of the North Cornwall stuff (which may include Cardinham as well as Lanhydrock) is through the National Trust, so zimmer friendly trails and lots of tea and cake stops on the way, so its not all bad.

Nice work Mark on the result at the weekend by the way

Have been having a few discussions with one of the set up team recently.

There are a few interesting things to do with cycling happening in Cornwall at the moment.

  • soudns good Mark! and certainly sounds like it could be a popular series!

not long back from a tehidy blast, had to move a Significant sized tree section fromt he top of the XC section, good 2ft wide! managed to drag it clear, and the top of the first downhill track the tree guys have been in as there were a Lot of trees down, so had to move some of the piles of branches and used a few logs to mark out the route a bit easier! hopefully they'll still be there on sunday!!! but its Very slippy! can certainly catch you out! oneof the last bits of St, was attacking it at normal pace, first bit fine, bit slippy but good, second bit good, third bit, well, front all over the place, back all over the place lol! had a nice little back wheel out drift at one section in it, front slid out, then gripped and the back went! very funny!
something tells me it'll be a lot of fun on sunday!! might drop a little more out the tyres too, see if that helps a little,

Oh so the frame is at the barn being gradually built up tim, must head over there and have a nosey when im all fixed up sodding grapes lmao.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

  • Going to spend Christmas in the Liskeard area. Can anyone recomend a decent xc loop or some trails, nearby? Dont mind traveling to some by car if need be. Can the coast path be accessed by bike?

Cornwall MTB Club have done some rides in the Liskeard area, but not sure exactly where.

You could cross the Tamar and have a look around Dartmoor. It ain't that far & if you check out http://yogi.terapad.com you'll see they have regular rides, so you won't get lost.

Cornwall side, you also have Cardinham Woods (which is OK) on the way to Bodmin or Dunmere - Wadebridge side of Bodmin, which has great riding.

I believe there is also a fairly decent place to ride south of Liskeard, towards Looe.

In respect to the Coast Path. Yes it can be accessed by bike. No you should not ride on it, as it is a 'footpath'. In reality at this time of year, you are unlikely to have any problems, but make sure you give way to walkers - they have the right to be there!

Are you allowed in Dunmere woods? I got told its private now cause someone hurt themselves in there and tried to sue the owner!! If you are allowed in there, where do you get in there? Near the Borough Arms?

Back from SW Ireland - stunning place!

Didn't take bikes so did three runs (on different days...,!) up the nearby mountains. 600m high, about 8km or so and the most fun thing in ages - views were gobsmacking.

Would be ideal MTB territory too!

Had a ride this morning - nice to be back on the Stumpy again. Probably tempting fate but it's been running very well for ages now with only minor maintenance. New chain and cassette in the Spring though and possibly new chainrings.
  • Many thanks for your reply FSR-XC.

Done some more reaserch and I think Dunmere and a wood near Plymouth called Cann are on the cards. Look like great places for a ride. The wood near Looe could be Herodsfoot (sp)? It seems to follow the river down according to the OS map.

Been looking through the this (long) thread, and may have to travel to Idless and Tehidy wood as it seems they get a mention by a few members are they worth the extra distance further west?

May have to increase my holiday

    Cheers Greg.

I have made a few enquiries about this and still have no confirmation.

We have been stopped twice in there.
Once a mate & myself were unloading the bikes and the 'land owner' said we couldn't ride there as mountain bikes erode the trails. I asked a few questions as there are no signs saying you can't and it is Forestry Commission land. Then we left.
2nd time there were 3 of us. Lady stopped us saying we shouldn't be here. I think she was a little surprised we weren't abusive 14yr olds. She didn't tell us to leave, but more 'be careful', so we stayed.

From what I understand, the land is Forestry Commission owned and is looked after by a family, who have the shooting rights on the land. I haven't seen anywhere that MTB are not allowed, but I have heard the story about someone getting injured and also another about people trail building and leaving beer cans & litter.

Lets face it. If you are going to build a trail, leave litter or try a sue someone because you fell off, then the managers of the site are not going to want you there.

When I or friends go, we ride trails that are already there (often cut out by the managers with MX bikes), we are courteous to walkers, dogs and other wildlife and if asked to leave will do so without causing any issue.

Dunmere has some of the best trails around, if we can get on with the managers of the site & show we are sensible riders that care about the natural environment, maybe they will be more happy to let us ride there.
