    ;)

So one and all went out as well, i did hear the trail riders and one & all have separated from each other but i didn't hear anything definite.

Anyway i've had enough with 'groups' so best of luck to them.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Trailriders was set up as O&A wanted to concentrate on road riding initially. The idea being that it would be affiliated at a later date.

As you've noticed, it hasn't quite worked out like that. Not sure why.

Well from what i heard on the grapevine ricci and mark had a bit of a tizz and it's turned sour, i may look into that group as rach and a few others i get on well with ride for o&a, should be a good laugh provided i get on this time round, i'll keep an eye out.

I'll probably end up asking ricci etc as no one posted up about it which i found odd.

You going out on Thursday with Freeriders? I may have a pass for early evening, as opposed to post-8pm, bike ride.

Idless at 10pm on Friday night woooooooooooooooo

Are there any ghosts in Idless?!

Kyle - Soggy Bottom looking tricky AGAIN! My cousin who lives in Cayman Islands is over for the first time in four years - big session on the Saturday before the event is unavoidable. I'm a bit annoying TBH but if I miss it, there'll be trouble.

Don't think it was Mark & Ricci that fell out, as I know they're both talking etc.

The mtb ride was mentioned on the O&A facebook page. I believe it's every Sunday at 9.30am

No night rides until new light arrives. Sold my L&M halogen on Sunday.

Freeriders is a pretty fast group (especially downhill), but great group to ride with.

I rode in the most stupid rain this morning - while I have decent kit and stayed dry, it does get boring having to clean everything every time. And kit wears out twice as quickly.
  • ive got to admit i do find very little enthusiasm to get out on the bike when the weathers like it is! Strong westerly so would be riding into it up to tehidy, i just suddenly loose all interest! grrrrrrrrrr!
saw my m.e. proffeser on tuesday and have just picked up the new tablets he's given me that shoul;d help to give me a bit more energy during the day so hoping that will help! and the others will boost my immune system over the winter months too! although think i may have picked up an eye infection too! really Itchy right eye, feels good to pojke and rub it but then hurtd like hell hahahah! so have drops now for that! think am slowly falling apart ahahh!

although sad day for me this week,
The shorts have finally been retired for the year! opted for trousers tuesday lunchtime! first time since Mid Feb. nice to have cosy legs though!!!!! 8)

will go and read the papaer and see if i am brave enough for a ride!!

  • Right managed to Man up enough to get out for a ride!
But, really didnt enjoy it at all! just felt as if i was sat on the bike riding around the woods rather than the old fling the bike around and have some fun style! really not taking to the switch back to full suss! think it may be because its an old frame (01/02 non disc!) and just a bit to 'Vague' on the handling side?? certainly feels like a Lot more of my effort is getting soaked up by the bike over the HT, also not feeling to grand in myself so that doesnt help, but think its time to start saving for another HT frame! 8)

Timmo - I'm into my 3/4 length Singletracks now - don't wear trousers ever however cold it is.

I should think the FS is a bit old hat and has the elements of a FS I don't like - weight, bob, vagueness. Your carbon HT was a real whippet.

Worth looking out for a cheapish but good HT frame like an On-One or similar? Unless you want to spend £1.5K plus on a FS bike it's just going to be too much of a squidgy lardarse. I'm sure the last thing you need to do is buy a new frame but worth aimimg for. A real shame your carbon bike broke - maybe aim for something a bit burlier but still whippety?
  • i think youve got it spot on there matt! very Bobby and Very vague at best lol! just doesnt inspire confidence!

have been nosing at frames, can get a more modern version of my carbon one for just over £200! which is a Very good price! and also looking at some lapierre frames, need to set some form of goal to aim for, just really not enjoying the old bike anymore! pre carbon one i loved it lol! funny how things change!

i'll try and drop the local cnc milling place a line and se eif they take on Small projects? if so pop up with the frame and broken bit incase they can do something!!

Keep an eye on this frame, they have a very good rep

I have a coyote ht5 made of the same tubing, it's light and stiff and gives a great ride.

A good steel frame could be ideal - bit of springiness but light. My 1997 Stumpjumper (my old one) is still a superb bike and made from (this is from memory!) Tange Prestige tubing - similarish to that Easton stuff - double butted, light but totally bulletproof.

Would be a shame to get another carbon bike only to break it again. Good steel bikes just do NOT break and they last forever (almost).

Carbon and Alu fatigue/fail over time - I wouldn't trust any carbon or alu frame over five years old. I'd happily ride a 20 year old steel bike anywhere though.
  • i know what your saying matt, but the more modern carbon bikes have a different design drop out on the back, and also, i have no idea How old the frame was when i got it and what it had been used for prior to me getting it either?? not sure, really depends how i get on with the saveing lol! but dont think it'll be thi side of my birthday in feb!!
i'd love another carbon frame, rode so nicely and was So chuckable, but also looking at alloy frames around the sub 4lb mark too, have emailed the guys down the barn as after todays ride didnt get down there about a couple of frames ive seen for guidance/advice more than anything,
but, as you said, dont want to save hard, spend a couple of hundred on a frame for it to break first time out!! after all, i'm not the lightest of riders!!!

i'll try and get out when i'm feeling better in myself and give the bike a blast but have that niggling in my mind that now i dont like it! loL! not so easy to Re like something when youve not so much confidence in it anymore! :?

Mine's in tomorrow for a few tweaks - have a horrible feeling it could be new rear mech time

Just thought steel could be a compromise - nice and simple but strong. Best ride a few I guess!

I did Materials Engineering and studied lots on steel, alu and carbon. Ti is still my favourite but damn pricey!
  • haha! yeah Ti would be Lovely but somehow, its a smidge out my budget lol! one day hey!
i hear what your saying about steel too! the old original smooth rider! will have to shortlist a few styles of frame and see what suits when i've got the money!!

I'm cursed when it comes to Soggy Bottom - I can't believe someone has arranged a major event (which I have to go to) the night before - arrgghhh!!

Just got the bike back - new skewers (Hope of course), sorted fork seals, brakes tweaked and new pad - feels nice and tight now.

That and a new TV - bit of a wallet basher of a day but all fun.

Can't beat new bike bits, haven't got anything new in general just a trekmates bamboo baselayer tried it at work today and im very impressed with it, kept me just right all day.

Still itching to get out and ride but i've just got back from a good gym session so im in no hurry, weather is looking good for next week, can't wait to play with my new tyre combo in idless, bissoe trail is hardly a challenge for them, might lower the front and raise the back pressures to give the front a bit more bite.

As for training well i always am but i tend to compete against myself, anything else is secondary tbh, plus i want the bike finished before i can even think of entering, sure it's good enough now but who wants to enter when they're just 'good enough'

Matt - im really enjoying those lightweight innertubes specalized do, for some reason i always puncture schwalbe tubes but spec im fine and they seem lighter and imo a better quality tube.

    I'm not riding Soggy.

I've done so little riding in the last 8 weeks that I doubt I'd get round the fun race at anything like a half decent pace.

Seriously considering Haldon at the end of the month though . . .
