Hmmn tricky one, what's merlin like for handbuilts on those hubs??
I can recomend the Xero wheels of woollyhatshop, I've got the session freerides due to weight (mine) but there only 100g heavier than the cyprus xc wheels,
The bike fest has been advertised in the briton although was hidden away somewhat! But should have a good selectoin of demo bikes and new models at both the barn and ricci cafe, cafe end users get a free water bottle too! But should be a good day, the barn side will have all day bar b, beer cider etc. And entertainment for the kids too,
I'll pop down in the afternoon as have a busy morning ahead by the looks of it! Although could really do with the morning in bed after cleaning my best mates car this avo!! Haha!
play around tehidy sunday if your not out with the trail riders??Timmo.

Hi all. I am reasonably new on here. Thanks for the pointer to this thread Timmo.
I did actually come out with a couple of you a couple of months ago in Idless. Im pretty sure it was you Timmo another guy called Simon ? someone with a Cube and something broke on your bike and you had to go home. I have been wanting to get out with you guys again but been really busy what with surfing, young family, her family and all. Just spent 2 weeks in Lanzarote went on an awesome MTB tour around the volcanoes and 550m cliffs!! was really cool. I will try to find somewhere to get a pic or two up.
Anyway Im AJ. Hi to all.0 -
Yeah yeah yeah! That was idless minor mud fest! Si me and you then mike caught us up when I was busy fixing!!! Sadly that ride was the demise of my old faithfull xt mech! Haha!
Pics of that ride sound awsome!Timmo.

Was a little muddy. Good fun though. Shame I have too many commitments to say I will come every week. How casual is it?0
-
its as casual as you want it to be! the only thing asked is that after your first 4 rides if you like it you join as a member, its only £15 for the year and includes the ctc insurance which is worth it on its own! (covers you if your out on your tod or out with the group etc)
keep an eye on the meet sheet through the link in my sig and see which rides take your fancy! we normally get around the 10 - 12 riders unlike the idless ride hahah! is always a good laugh! (14 on sundays ride)Timmo.

ever have one of those days where you wish you didnt go out on the bike???
had to nip out to the wholesalers, so went to get the kit out the bathroom but to my joy was still damp, so dig out the olf shorts, bibs winter gloves etc. set off, managed to catch the shorts within 2 miles and rip the #rse right out of them  got to the whole salers and took longer to get the lock out the backpack and lock the bike than it did to go in and get what i wanted! thought on the way back take ina loop of tehidy as was only a slight detour and was feeling good, all going well untill stopped to attempt to clear a big #rse bush that had fallen on the track, cleared a bit but none of the big branches as they were too heavy but enough to get through, scratched my legs to b#ggery on the brambles and nettles!
pushed on and started to enjoy myself, until slightly unbalancing of a rooty section resulting in falling over and down the bank a few feet landing on my noggin, get up and carry on, got up around the corner and onte a nice techy bit, has been a lil chewed up after sunday btu not half as bad as if it would have been wet! took a little slip on the back wheel, skipped down the bank leaving me to knee slide down the path! :x then noticed that my saddle bag want quite done up and on a look my multi tool and spoke key had gone! not so happy! had a look back over where i fell over and one the previous section but couldnt see anything! :x :x :x
cracked on around the rest the loop, all going well until near the end, was feeling lazy, took completely the wrong line down the steps tot he bridge at the bottom of the woods, tried to correct it but ended up in a over the bars half unclipped manor, just stopping before an over the rail into the bog!
decided at that point the best thing for me to do was ride home hahahah!
really think today i should have left the bike at home hahaha!
oh, top bearing inmy headset started to grumble and on inspection was falling to bits too!
comedy of errors hahahahah!Timmo.

Where in Cornwall would be good for a 4hr+ circuit?
Really want to get up to Dartmoor soon. But for the minute its Cornwall.
How was the ride up there a few weeks ago? (Truro club)0 -
4hr ride! erm, dont know of many places that can sustain a 4hr route unless of course you mix up a few seperate routes?? although i suspect even with that you'll end up with a fair bit of road/trail inbetween the better sections???
cant comment on the dartmoor ride as didnt do it, and sadly only a few of those that did frequent this forum, brendon or Si3 on the cornwall site would be the ones to ask as they like the long rides! - brendon did Very well in the trans wales! may be worth an ask there??Timmo.

I think Im going to do the Cardinham ride in a couple of weeks.
Just got some new forks fitted so going to give it a blast somewhere tomorrow morning.
Need to get a bit fitter though. Two weeks in Lanzarote with all you can eat buffets round every corner and plenty of beer and I deffinately need to shed a pound or 6.0 -
I borrowed a Cannondale Rush for a few days today,
Went out on it tonight.
Wow!
It's quick, it accelerates a lot better than the FSR and it weighs about half as much.
Anyone wanna race up some hills?

mark, are you going to go for a size up then?? or try other similar bikes????
i get severe bike envy when ever i look in the bike mags at all the sparkly new rides!!!! and especially wheni go down the bike barn! even the base model Zesty now looks soo damn good!!!!
have decided and told them though that i wont ride any of the demo bikes despite their best efforts until i can actually afford to buy one as otherwise it'll taint riding my bike!! hahaha!
aj, if you have a nose on the meet sheet on the club page (sig link) were doing a few rides up around the st.a/bodmin area, trying to get it to one middle half one lower half the county to even it out somewhat!Timmo.

Ayup!
Didn't make the Helston ride yesterday as I was originally planning - a mate of mine from Exeter txt me on Friday seeing if I fancied a Dartmoor ride so headed up to Princetown. Weather was a bit bit drizzly around Princetown but not too bad besides. None of us had really ridden up there before so I hastily put a route together on Saturday and it turned out to be not too bad considering!...although I did have to get my HTC Hero out at one point to check the grid reference at one point (very handy app if you have the phone)! Decent ride overall although my mate somehow managed to slash his tyre 3km from the end so had to walk!
Won't be able to make the Cardinham ride next weekend (going for a tour of Treliske's antenatal facilities early afternoon so not got time) but hopefully can make the Sunday after.
Would also be up for a regular monday night ride too2008 Trek Fuel EX8

Personally I think Mark should stick to the frame size he had. It made him look like he'd nicked some school kid's bike.
A posh school kid who's parents had more cash than sense.
It was very amusing seeing him with his knees wizzing past his chin.0 -
Thanks Kyle

If I get one, it will have to be the next size up.

Hi All - going to make a sneaky return - I think the freaks have gone for now...
Kyle - how are things? Not seen you for a while. Possible ride/beer soon?
Mark - are you getting one then? Had a good gawp at the Rush and rather liked it. Cannondale aren't quite my thing but they do look good.
Shame our "Summer" has gone - back to being splattered constantly. Mudguards back on, new waterproof coat (Altura Reflex in yellow - HIGHLY recommended), new Sealskinz (is there any way to stop water pouring down the tops - surely they realise cyclists wear shorts, not trousers 99% of the time?! Might have to bodge a wetsuit "gaitor" if not) and even a roadie top for when it's drier (i.e. never)!0 -
hello mr matt!
hows you fella?? all good i hope!!
was thinking of you over the weekend, mother had hired an Audi A4 estate for out trip up to kent, not s-line but high spec, but lacked a few obvious things for that spec level if yo ulike?? not bad car but creaked a lot from the plastics when cold and the back isnt designed to have 2 adults and a child seat in it! i spent the whole trip sat sideways so i could fit! designed for 4 people by the sculpting of the seats, did alright on juice though (deisel)
anyways, enough car chatter, heheh! hoping to get out on the bike tomorow but feeling very low at the mo so will see! think have picked up soem of the wife's cold! Grrrrrrrr!
got chronic withdrawls over the weekend for not getting out as was at mothers! very strange!!!!Timmo.

Timmo - looked at the 3.0TDI Avant but it was heavier, had a smaller boot, much slower, worse on fuel and emissions and the prices were silly so went for the Bimmer!
Several people have had their 335ds mapped to 350bhp and 530ish lbs/ft (!!!). Not going to do that but most are getting "before" dyno figures of well over 300bhp (official figure is 286) standard - rather nice! And tests are getting 0-60s of 5.5ish (officially 6.1) and 0-100s of 13.3s for standard cars (no official figures to 100 but that's quick) too. So it certainly goes like the clappers!
I now have Zaino Z5 Pro polish and Poorboys wheel sealant - turning into a detailing nerd. Car still very, very shiney though and sorted the kerbed alloy.
Had a great ride this morning - wet but got a few new bits (and fitted the rear mudguard) that really help keep it out. Also waterproofed my shorts with Nikwax Tech Wash and Tx Direct - works on almost any material - even denim (not for long though) - much cheaper than Gore-Tex/eVent, etc! Water just beads and falls off.0 -
thats interestig ont he shorts matt! how long does it last?? is it washing machine proof???
yeah the audi's not all that big!! and prices of them are just rediculous!! not really worth the money i'd say!! but people buy funny things!!!
soon you'll be paying out a fiver a cloth too for your finishing product cloths!!! - yes i have a few loL! its worth getting the good kit for the car especially as its not all that much more considering the finish you get!!
the bike is wearing poorboys, 4Star and collinite!!
am thinking if it dries overnight tomrorws ride will be a muddy one!! Wahoooooooooo! 8)

Timmo - should last a few months. "Officially" you are supposed to wash only with the Tech Wash stuff though. Worth trying a small bottle (about a fiver) of each then buying the 1 litre ones if you like it (£15 each). I'll let you know - the shorts kept me 100% dry (except on my exposed legs!) this morning.
Audi prices are crazy - only the S and RS models are any good to drive anyway. The rest are front heavy with vague steering and snatchy brakes.
This rain is mad - anyone flooded yet?!0 -
coool, thanks for that matt! will have a look in Macsalvers ont he weekend! (they have some decent mid layeer fleec tops for about £15 i think it was, could be an investm, ent for the up coming coldness heheheh!)
