Sounds like the club are going to Luxy Valley?

    Gord
there is a facebook group called cornish trail riders. They'll be meeting Sunday morn, in Redruth and also do a ride or two during the week (Eve).
I'll prob be out with them Sunday

It might be worth looking at an OS map west of St Ives. I reckon you might find a few trails there. A few of us have been meaning to explore that area

Hi Timmo, FSR, seriously useful replies, thank you!

I am in Exeter on Fri night, then St Ives on Sat through to the following Sat. The Sun ride sounds like it may well be a good plan - where are you planning to meet? How ludicrously fit are you? I'm not too bad (38 km in the Peak with 1050 m climbing in 4 hrs 15 at the weekend (including ice cream stop)) but...

Ricci cafe sounds like a good pointer - they may know about the MBR route (it seems sadly absent from their online ride guides).

Cheers all, sadly back to work now.

  • Gord,
    Have a look here matey
    http://www.mtbsharp.co.uk/routes/devon_ ... l/all.html

A little bit of googling came up with the details, although I can't verify they are spot on as am on the blackberry due to computer death but seems to have the downloads for you in a couple of formats!
You'll find either group will ride at the rate of the slowest (how all good groups are!) So no matter how fast or slow you are you won't get disheartened! A lot of the time the faster guys will ride at the back to keep involved with everyone!

Timmo, you're a star, that is exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.

Am seriously considering the Sunday ride - would be good to get out, but will have to see what the others on the holiday are up to first..

    Cheers,

Afraid not, parents will probably want me to run them about as they're back from their hols tomorrow, i'll probably nip out for a quick run in the afternoon.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Lights. I knew there was something I had forgotten. I will see if I can get my gf to bring them down.

It's just wrong. I shouldn't need lights to go riding on my summer holiday. Bah.

Timmo, thanks for the map. I should know later if I can persuade others to come along tomorrow - will post a yay or nay here later if that doesn't inconvenience anyone. Am about to go try Haldon Forest as my friend needs to stay near Exeter today, so I will let you know how we get on.

    Cheers all,

  • Haldons got some good trails by all accounts, the cornwall club have been there a couple of times,

Timmo is a happy boy again today! Crc service as good as ever and my pedal rebuild kit arrived in this mornings post and my pedals are fixed! Wahooo! - got 100 yards yesterday when my drive side bearing collapsed and pedal stared moving a lot on the shaft! Haha!
    But all happy now!

Think I'll crack around tehidy tomorow, will see if kev fancies it for the jumps etc!! Always good to see! And I have a few flyers for next saturdays cycling festival at the bikebarn/tramways/ricci cafe to sneak up on the bike trails!!

  • had an effort around tehidy today, Had The worst night i'd had in a long time, picked up a bug and all i can say is it was Pure evil! sweats, runs, desire to be sick but not able, and the worst headache ive ever had!
but kev dropped down and we both went up for a ride, was flowing nice and fast! did a smidge of improving a couple of log rolls but niether of us could get in the groove down there! haha! So decided enough was enough and headed for home!
tried a bit of ST out in illogan woods but wasnt really worth the effort lol!

been a day with the hangover youd expect from an all day session but sadly with out said session to cause it!

still, roll on next week and the bike festival on the mineral tramways next saturday both bike barn and ricci cafe involved with rides and entertainment at either end!!

  • Alrighty,

Posted on here a few weeks back about joining some rides, but then b*ggered my back so couldn't make a ride. Been busy with general stuff at the weekend so not been able to come out, although I did meet up with some mates from Derby for a weekender at Afan last weekend - glorious sunshine, dry, dusty trails and great accommodation...was absolutely perfect!

Anyway, looked on the Cornwall MTB site Timmo and saw there's a ride around Tehidy next Sunday so I'll be there!...desperately need to get in with some new riding folks before winter sets in otherwise I'll get lazy and do eff all lol!

New spokes (bent a couple & few marked from when rear mech broke), bearings, a cone & £26 for hub carrier (which is debatable). That was Clive Mitchells.

I really fancy a Cannondale Rush carbon. Really noticing the weight of the mtb @ mo & love the look, weight & spec of this bike

  • oooh, the rush carbons a very nice bike!!
i'm noticing the weight, but sadly mines nothing bike related!!

could always look at a wheel upgrade on the net mark, they always say you notice the weight of the wheels the most??

  • Good use of bartering skils there Timmo with the chocs!

I've also been looking at C2W options as our works is due to start again soon. Am happy with my current bikes though but really fancy a longtail/cargo bike! Currently have a thread running on the STW forum with some good examples, so plenty of ideas running through my head right now :D

  • I'd love a new bike! Full suss ideally but sadly it aint going to happen lol! Couple hundred quid should see the oils one built up whioch bwill be fine but bike envy is a terrible thing!
I'd love to be able to turn the carbon one into a real lightweighter but its not going to be cheap!
Wheels brakes, cranks shifters and mechs would all save a bit! But that look would be around a grand ish for around for around a pound and half tops! Would possibly get it sub 20lb then??

And more importantly, I aint going to notice the difference!
Would be better for me tp save the money fpr lipo suction! Hahaha!

Re: wheels. I have found a deore set for £80 & XT rear for £65
Just don't know whether to get hub carrier for the good wheel & use the money left for new bike. It could be a few months though . . .
