Mark - I haven't entered but might do so last minute - are you running? Any idea what time? I always have a pretty vital conference call with a client at 4.30 every Thursday.
Always tricky sorting a regular ride! Baby boy makes long rides a bit tricky. Got SO muddy this morning! Full splattage everywhere.
Some bloke (mid 20s I'd say) keeps burning past me at full pelt on an old MTB (and no helmet, plus loads of tattoos...) on Malpas Road - you can see he is really pushing but runs out of steam by the time he gets to Tescos. So I have the dilemma of overtaking him again (and looking like a git) or just hanging on his tail to let him know how pointless he is being. Hmmm...0 -
just overtake him again matt! he being the old mini equivalent on a bike! great for short bursts but pants on the hills!!Timmo.

Just seems a bit off and like I'm being a "sore loser" at being overtaken! He's done it a few times now and stops at the Industrial Estate - so total ride distance is less than 2 miles. Meanwhile I'm doing 12.5... And with some of the worst (or best) hills in Cornwall!0
-
hahah! well matt, dont let it get to yoU! just keep smiling and ride on!
rest in the knowledge that one day he'll come a cropper and hurt himself especially with no lid on!!
either that oir ask him to join you one morning! see how he manages that! :twisted:Timmo.

Just sit behind him all the way making him realise what a pointless exercise it is.The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

That's what I did this morning. The last time I blasted past him again. He really hates being overtaken again but it's hard to avoid.0
-
hahah! your bike chav bating Matt! push him a little more than he's comfy with then ease off and watch him go all wobbly! hahaha!Timmo.

That's what happened this morning. He was pushing it as hard as possible but flagging big style. For about 500 metres I was a few yards behind, making a big point of how breathless I wasn't while he was panting like a dog. I was very tempted to say "fancy another 10 miles at this pace then?" but resisted...
Oh dear - I'm meant to be 34. I think I might still be 12!0 -
Saw you this morning Matt coming past Great Outdoors.
Best thing to do about the guy overtaking you is to tuck in behind him (drafting) and let him do the work.
I haven't entered the race. Thinking about it, but not sure.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

Mark - think I'll give it a miss. A lot of work on at the moment and already done two local 10Ks and the sprint tri this year. Not quite in the mood for more punishment at the moment, despite doing lots of running recently. I always push myself too hard in races - good for results, bad for the few days afterwards!
In Great Outdoors Penrose Outdoors? Was I outbound (in full hi vis and coat) or heading back (got so hot I had to strip down to my wicking vest!!)?0 -

didnt make it out again loL! decided the best method for me would be to go back t bed and wait for the anesthetic to wear off!! figured riding with a half numb face may not be the most sensible ovf things hahah!
still, up to watch pops and the guys sail tonight, windy windy should make for a good un!
littluns more excited about catching the bus into truro lol!
oh, and trying to resist the temptation to buy more shiny bits for the bike hahahah!Timmo.

had a great evening/night tonight, sat and watched the guys start the race in the harbour and race out and then watched all the other boats start, had a couple of pints, and a nice meal and then watched Pops take line honors and a win over all int he race!

Calling all BR surfers - just found my Byron Bay pics from 1999 in the loft!!!
You have to squint hard (Mrs Matt is not a surf photographer) but you can just see the shadow of yours truly in a barrel.
Not surfed waves that good ever since!0 -
nice pic matt! are you roughly level with the rock like thing in the distance??
not long back form another dose of backpack biking with the littlun!
was supposed to be going up to the local softp[lay area (bombadingas) but they had a party booking in so we decided the beach sounded good! had a good crank back throught he village and down through the woods, kept it over 20 on the roads which was pleasing consideering the extra weight lol! and hit 24 down through the woods! littlun got a bit spooked as we shot into the dark bit mind and had a teary moment! awww, but perked up as soon as we appeared out int he village!
had a cracking cuppa with the mums and then an hour on the beach letting the kids play! very funny! then back up through the muddy woods and home, 6.8 miles all in and kept the average over 10 so quite happy considering the extra weight issue hahaha! (10.2 to be exact lol)
only trouble is, monkey spent most the time leaning to the side to see whats going on and have caught me back some now(like when you sleep funny and wake with almost a trapped nerve feeling!) which is quite painful so straight chair and heta rub this avo for me hahahah!
good fun though! 8)
surf was good at portreath as well matt, eased as the tide dropped as youexpect but not a bad wave!Timmo.

Timmo - missed the last few days. Keeps being okay at first and last light - not handy!
I am about level with the rock - really you can only see the shadow. The bit of white "sticking out" at the bottom of the barrel is just whitewater - if I had been that low, I'd have got nailed!0 -
yeah can Just about see it there!
just been nosing through the pics from the 505 worlds! some great shots there! uber windy!! makes me all jelous hahahah! i want to go for a blast int he boat now!Timmo.

How's the tooth?!0 -
hahah! nothign like the feeling of doind 20 knots under wind power alone!
tooths good ta! been a good boy and let it set etc as instructed! and have been good on food choice so nothing thats likely to do any damage loL! how did your dentist trip go??Timmo.

Mine was fine - except I got the wrong day and had to go back yesterday!
Basically preventative stuff - a course of treatment to clean up and make sure nothing needs doing in the future. Four treatments left and my teeth now feel very very gappy!!0 -
hahah! i always ask not to have the scale and polish done as last time i did i left in a fair amount of pain!!!
just trying to find some parts for brothers bike! is an old steel appollo with the 'jaw' type rear mech, i faffed about with it when he first had it as a 15 speed rigid and chucked a set of rst's i had on it, and played with the gears but kinda bodged them up a bit hahahah! 7 speed levers and 8 speed cassette i think! embarassing now but what i had at the time, honest! so now trying to source the parts to fix it proper!!!!Timmo.

This is a scale and a polish x 100 - and yes it hurts but apparently it'll make it better. Hope it bloody does cos it's costing a nasty amount. Still it's nice to have slightly less minging gnashers.
Operation Apollo sounds rather brave. We still have our "ratty" British Eagle in the shed - 21 speed Alivio gears (!), canti brakes and the heaviest frame ever built. However it looks cack, last forever and makes a perfect shopping bike (the panniers and rack which are newish are probably worth more than the bike!!). Apart from the fact that the brakes are tragic. And the handlebars aren't quite straight... and the front hub is ropey...0 -
hahah! sounds an awsome bike!!
brothers is a beut loL! his now!!! finally after close to 3 years Ex wife bought it for him for £40 6 years or so back!
its a decent ish bike, not that heavy considering, has my old XT v's on it as was a canti too! it could be made half decent but wouldnt be worth it!! just trying to correct my wrongs lol! not so easy when the bikes 25 mile away and brothers not overly bothered lol!Timmo.

Btt, cos there's nothing special going on. :P
Oh there is a ride on tomorrow, nothing new there but i will get to try me new tyres so that'll be fun.
Also got a small led for me lid for low light conditions so i don't end up run over oh and an sks revo pump, it got a few bad reviews but i really like it, the gauge is similar to the leyzene but it's the actual push rod how smart is that, it all round so no crap can ingress and you twist the head to lock it onto the valve.
Pumps quite decently too, not too far off a leyzene in feel, it's nice and tight so built quite well, it's the alloy version so probably fine as it's the plastic one that gets slated.
My peakini master blaster was rubbing the frame and getting gumed up with crap so time for it to go.

nice looking pump dazzz,
my blackburn mountain air comes in at the same sort of price now as its recently gone up (used to be just over a tenner, unbeatable at that money!), great bit of pump, really quick inflation and a good twist llock end, and sits nicely under the top tube too! oh and lifetime warranty too!
wont be out tomorow as backs stilla bit saw, but a lot better, and that its due to be raining and i am slowly worrying that i have Really turned intoa fair weather cyclist hahahha!
think we might be out as a family on monday though! 8) nice gentle cruise around for the good lady! May even get littlun out on her bike too instead of the back pack!!! 8) 8)Timmo.
