    Matt

    Nice car.

I would have gone for the Audi - more subtle and very good image. (& I've owned 3 Audi's)

Why do you need more than 286bhp?

    Back to bikes -

It's surprising how soon you start forgetting all the bad things about a 24hr race. . . . . and start wondering when you'll be doing it again. :?

Timmo - they are doing it for free! I may need to seek your advice/expertise on keeping it tip top though.

Mark - looked very seriously at the 3.0TDI Avant A4 - the following swung it for me:

BMW 335d is lighter, faster (a lot faster), better on fuel (a fair bit better), lower emissions, handles better (although Quattro grip is excellent), bigger boot and for some reason the Audis are very expensive used - my budget would have only got me a last shape (B7)! model! However they do look great and the interiors are hard to beat.

I could have chipped my Astra (150bhp diesel) to 210ish bhp for only £300ish but didn't trust the car's gearbox/clutch and wasn't sure if the chassis would take it. Like Timmo, I'm not mad keen on car modding.

Mark - done similar with my running races. Halfway through each one I'm thinking "I NEED TO STOP AND LIE DOWN" - then the finish line comes up and I'm soon thinking about the next one.

First ride with the new carbon bottle cage yesterday - very silly but it does actually work a lot better than my other bottle holder (easy in/out, holds the bottle tightly)!! Bike currently riding very well - I'm sure it won't last!
  • Oh Dazzabel! i'll put the fishing rod away now then shall i! took that one Hook line and Sinker!!!:wink::D

    Matt, anytime fella,

gotta drop a part down the garage for the car later so hoping to make a small ride out of it! but i suspect i'll nip out the Barn and then into portreath for a coffee and an oggle and then up through the woods!we'll see!!!

Cleaned & checked the bike yesterday.

One loose spoke and adjust the brakes and no other problems. Might need a rear wheel re-spoked soon though.

I did have to buy a middle chainring during the race - 3 out of the 4 of us had a middle ring slipping.

Mark - SLX chainset gets seriously reinforced middle ring - quite handy as I've killed two as well (non SLX)!

I got a steel Deore one.

Not exactly a lot of choice when you're at an event. However, I'd have probably bought one of these anyway.

  • quite a few peeps are choosing deore kit due tot he effectively cheap price and replaceability over the more expensive ones! especially rear cassettes!

there is an awful lot of XTr type snobbery in the mtb leagues!

You twat!! i couldn't tell if you were!! :lol::lol::lol::lol:

I thought ffs tim what's got into you all of a sudden, i really should have known better.

That's it next time there's a valeting thread here im posting in it, im sure i can think of something to get you biting. :P

I have to admit to liking some of the deore gear, i'll still buy xtr but it's a sight better than i expected, i just buy it as im a tart and like the looks. :D

I 'might' buy a roadie ultegra cassette next we'll see.

Matt - i mentioned remapping as you can probably get better economy and driveability and probably a bit more poke with a bit less smoke, with na cars it's a moot point but on turbo cars it's very worthwhile looking into it.

Tim you still got that taxi at your mums just wondering?
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Dazza - you can get it up to well over 350bhp and silly torque but I think it'll take me a fair while to get used to it as standard!

Rockhopper has Deore stuff - seems to be working well. Bit mushier than higher end stuff but seems to last very well.
  • the deore kit isnt quite so silky in the shifting side etc but when you can get 2 deore cassettes for pretty much one xt they've got to be worth a look hey!

    Definitely.

My road bike has the equivalent of Deore - Tiagra. Seems very good to me and even manages to look pretty cool too. I do like road cranksets very much!

I can't see it makes any difference at all for a middle ring.

Cassette wise, I've just fitted an SRAM 950. Seems to work very well - particularly as it's lower end SRAM.

Yeah weather is hit n miss, i will need to nip out some time this week or i'll start getting tetchy.

I'll have to throw on my winter tights of course just in case it does belt down.

On the upside i've just recieved confirmation that my glasses are on the way, should be here tomorrow or friday, at last some good news!!

  • had to get out for an emergency Blast to the post office today! parcel had been sat there since it arrived as nice mr postie decided not to bother delivering the One parcel we needed for the car MOT! loaded up the liottlun in the trailer and set off, only for half way into town my upper jockey wheel (kcnc) to Spit its bearings out and jamm! Nice!
made it to the post office in time though and dropped in on the bike barn guys to get an emergency one to keep me going! made it on to Portreath for a lovely cuppa and ice cream for the littlun!

New car arrived - totally mint and absolutely EVIL  :lol:

Even came with Thule roof bars - which will fit our Thule bike racks perfectly.

Had surf coaching yesterday from a top 10 pro - rather interesting!

Ride this morning was a lot drier - but the bike it having a right old moan about being soaked the other day (bit graunchy) - I think it might be the bike equivalent of a fussy b1tch!
  • did you not undress it and give it a loving rub them Matt??? (think strip down and clean!)

Tim - came nearly spotless and Supagarded - not "allowed" to wash it for a week as it "cures" (??!). Got a full kit with it too - leather treatment, alloy cleaner, wax, etc, etc.

It truly is a beast - it even sounds good for a diesel!
  • lmao! thats utter tripe matt! supaguard is a sealant, cures in approximatey 15minutes!
other wise you'd have to keep it in a carcoon to stop any rain getting on it!

even High end wax's are cured in an hour or so!!

the leather traeatment i suspect is just a 'feed' which is again semi useless as the leathers used in the car industry arnt of the state they can be Fed! there's a company called the Furniture clinic that supply proper trade kits, cleaners and oils etc, but no feeds as they are effectively useless! apply it and then leave it, and it'll come off on your trousers!
