as a tip for you incase your not members of the national trust (guess you might be??) if you make stanley a member it's something like £15 a year, which if like us you only use it for carparking at gwithian then its a good deal!!! (not so good if you want to get into any of the houses etc they own!)

    Timmo - good plan! Cheers!

We went a bit further down to the main beach - where Sunset Cafe is but often go to Godrevy itself. Had some great surfs there (like the one in my avatar!).
  • no worries! had it passe don by the guy in the shed at godrevy when i went to enquire couple of years ago!!

MTB - bought it with a new cassette just before 24/12.

Since that it had been sat in an oil bath until I fitted it today.

I took my mum down the Camel Trail this afternoon - what a place & time to snap!

Looking at the piece I picked up, the outer plates literally snapped. I thought it was the split link that had gone,so picked it up & brought it home. come to fit it, I'd lost about 10 links.

    Wondering if I get another SRAM or try a KMC . . . . .

Do you ever go in the Heron Inn?

    What's it like for food?

Mark - often. In fact I have a discount card! Food is pretty good in general. There's the odd miss but most stuff is fine - avoid anything with a load of sauce on it - they can't do sauces!
Roasts are good and they do nice fish. It was taken over about a year ago and is about 232333636 times better than it was.

What model SRAM chain? I'm sure you "ask" a lot of your kit, being rather heavy (that is not an insult BTW!) but that's pretty poor. Mine is starting the stretch a bit - thinking about the top end 991 (I think) but it needs to last well.

Ta. Might try the Heron on Thursday eve.

The chain was a 951. Thinking of a KMC X9 now.

I put the old one back on for the time being. Now waiting for the fog to break so we can try the Camel Trail again.

  • the Kmc X9 series have the strongest break and stretch rating of pretty much all the chains about, i'd certainly recommend one! i'm quite heavy on the drivetrain and have had No issues what so ever with my kmc chains!

Mark - I use the 971 - no idea if it's any stronger.

Timmo - how easy are they to break (on purpose) and maintain? The thing I like about SRAM chains is the powerlink. My last one did 4000 miles before stretching too much - not bad.
  • they use effectively the same powerlink just under a different name!

I have been using the 971 up until this last chain. Finances dictacted a cheaper chain!!!!!!

Looking more & more like KMC is the way to go - particularly as I tend to put quite a strain on chains (what with my 20 Stone & all  )

Mark - yer daft git. I spent years slaving in the gym to put ON three stone. Not everyone wants to be a 10 stone whippet that gets blown over in a strong breeze.

  • just been out for a bit of fun with the littlun on the bike, been thinking about it for a while and after a natter with one of the guys att he barn thought Why not!

Put littlun in the back pack (proper child carrier btw not just a rucksack with her head poking out hahah) helmet on and went for a blast down to the cafe at portreath! She LOVED IT! all the way down when ever we saw anyone she Shouted at them HELLO! I'M inmy backpack'! very funny! and ont he way back up kept asking 'Daddy, you knackered'?? but seemed to love the speed more, normally much opver 15 int he trailer she gets narky but was more than happy in the high teens down through the woods through all the mud and cruising along the roads at 16/17ish, hit 22 on the road back home and not a complaint in sight! climbing back up through the woods seemed no trouble either! think combined weight of the pair of us would be in the 19st bracket!
only trouble was when we got home she said 'Daddy, i WANT to go out on your bike again'!!!! So next week or maybe friday if iam feeling adventurous we might head out around tehidy for some ST fun!!

down side is that low branches catch her lid and if you slow quickly you get Nutted from behind lol! :D

Id watch the sram 991 as i've heard if you're hard on chains they'll break easier due to being hollow pin, mark id give the kmc 9l a shot, they're usually cheap on ebay.

Treated myself to some endura f260 pro 3/4 tights today as a couple of mine are falling apart, the lumicycles can wait and it's not like i have no light anyway.

Tim nice to see you fixed the bike, give it a few years and it'll be jorja riding you about. :P

Is Jorja the next Rachel Atherton then?!

Not sure if I'm hard on chains or not. Sometimes the relentless pursuit of low weight does backfire though... :lol:
  • Dazz, thats the plan lol!

need to pop down the barn and have a nose at short sleve jerseys as could do with a spare one!

Either didn't carb up enough (bad) or got dehydrated (very bad) - take it easy. Dizzyness is never good. Had it a few times when I've REALLY pushed it but only very briefly.

How's your blood pressure? Might be a bit too low.

    Dazzza Posts: 2,364
Well i have been drinking beetroot juice of late which is known to lower blood pressure plus i have been training my arse off, won't be dehydration as im drinking plenty so it must be carb intake.

I have been holding carbs back a fair bit so i guess im pushing the envelope so to speak.

But i shall redouble my efforts and keep an eye on it.

Had an interesting ride today, went out with the one and all roadies and kept up all the way, did crash towards the end as my energy levels dropped like a stone but it's really pushed my curiosity into getting a road bike in the future, when i don't know but it will happen one day.

I will say this there are some nutters on the road, must be a bit hair raising riding on your own, even in a group a mondeo went flying around a bend and nearly ended up in a hedge, he wasn't a happy bunny.

Anyway rest day tomorrow, will be nipping up cribbs causeway for the day. :D

There are some utter pillocks on the road - most give you plenty of room, some only just miss you at silly speeds. They always get plenty of hand signals from me!

You definitely need to be quite assertive on a road bike - but you can pile on the miles vert easily.

For those that are curious, learn where your bike is made, oddly a large portion of bikes are made by giant, even specialized as giant owns the largest and most technological sites.

    http://allanti.com/page.cfm?PageID=328

Colnago is one of the only road bike makers that still make them in italy, everyone else sources from asia.

And any oclv carbon frame is made in the us.

Idless, that's going to be fun some motorcross boys were up there tearing it apart last week.

Might be a carn marth/carn brea/tehidy and portreath run on sunday.

Tell me about it, one minute we were in wendron then after a few hills it was top of lanner hill i remember thinking wtf did we really go that fast?!

The whole road safety aspect is what has me in two minds, and it's only going to get worse so i'll hate to hate my wits about me that's for sure.

Focus cayo expert is the current bike i fancy, we'll see what happens i may wait for the market prices to drop back down so may take a while.
