Cheers Mark - hip slightly playing up at the moment so might have to give that one a miss. Cycling is fine, running seems to aggravate it so sticking to shortish stuff for a bit.

Running with our local pub landlord later - should be fun!
  • well as long as it involves stopping at the pub post ride then Yup, sounds like Fun!! 8)

Tim, left you a little pressie, showed up earlier on but you were obviously out. :)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Nice ride today mark, btw i was right me wheel is a bit taco'ed gonna throw it ricci's way later on.

Good mix of terrain and nice and slippy to spice things up a bit. 8)

Edit: oh dear looks like i didn't just bend it, two spokes have ripped out of the hub itself, not too upset as i have a new el cheapo i can throw on, i'll throw on the other as well to balance out the bike, just means i'll be a bit slower.

Oh well mustn't grumble i've hammered them over five years. 8)

Well that is definitely a new set of wheels this christmas.

I was thinking of gettig american classics but i've heard the weak point on a wheel was the j bend on the spokes so looks like i'll be getting straight laced industry nine's, the spoke is designed not to muller the hub but rather take itself out.

Went down the beach this afternoon.

Sea looked very choppy. Wouldn't have thought it was good to surf. I even tried going for a swim at Fistral. Flippin lifeguard told me I had to go in with the emmets between the flags - like you can swim in the 20m between the flags!

MTB ride this morning was very good. Over 27 miles in total, av 9mph (including the bits where I was just bimbling around.

Mark - it was sheltered (ish) at Tolcarne and breaking nicely.

I find the South coast a lot better for sea swimming - places like Loe Beach have no lifeguards and are great for swim sessions.

    Hi

Sorry to muscle in on your chat, but do you know of any decent biking in the dunmere woods area. I am briinging some scouts to the campsite at washaway, and we will all have our bikes. I do quite a bit of bike racing, and wondered whether there was any fairly easy singletrack around for them to try out ?

Thanks for any info - much appreciated

Dummere is great - grab a 1:25000 OS map if you can and check out the trails.

    Oh and welcome!

From what i've heard you're better of riding with someone who knows the local area as some of the best trails are hard to find, been meaning to ride up there but never seem to get around to it.

There can be a slight issue with Dunmere. The apparent 'land owner' doesn't like MTBers. Although it is Forestry Commission land, there is a family that own the (iirc) shooting rights on the land. I have not yet found any reason why MTBers are not allowed on the land, but there have been instances of 'geroff my laaannd!'

If you were just taking a few people there I would say, it is not worth worrying about, but as it is an organised Scout camp, you may want to find somehere else or try to contact the 'owner' beforehand.

There are a few places you may want to consider. Hustyns wood is pretty good (but much smaller than Dunmere), there is the Camel Trail (for a flat easy ride) or Cardinham Woods (not as technical as Dunmere, a few decent trails, but can be a fair bit of climbing).
