Kyle -it'll eat into your riding time a bit but fingers crossed for a delivery VERY soon!!!

I did a bit of work last night then fell asleep at about 9pm!

Stanley going through an "unsettled" patch.

Off for a muddy run now (taking the dog so can't cycle).
  • Teething matt! just when they settle from it they start again!!

  • Hey guys,i answered a post from Ragged on another thread (Riding Legally in the begginers section) regarding places to ride legally.I suggested the many paths and coastpaths that cornwall has and unearthed some rather strong opinions. In short i was an irresponsible criminal for riding them and tarnished the good name of MTB's everywhere when i did so.Bit strong i thought!
So whats the general attitude here?I noticed that one of the next Cornwall MTB club's routes takes in a lot of coast path right next to where i live and ride so i thought i'd ask in here. Are we just blessed with a wealth of spots here in cornwall mixed with a laid back attitude towards riding that isn't to be found elsewhere in the country?Or am i a heinous criminal fit for the slammers?
  • some of the coast path is allowed to be ridden on but the majority is No cycling! however, around here as long as you are a responsable cyclist (am sure we all are) and allow walkers past, no skidding on the corners etc. then you are okay BUT! if you see the path wardens best to hop off!!!

The Coast Path is exactly that, a PATH. It is not a right of way for cyclists.

However some of the 'paths' near and around the coast are actually classed as bridleways and byways and therefore a right of way for cyclists.

In the 'off season' there tends to be very little problem riding the Coast Path as long as you are curtious to others on the path. It is not legal, but seems to be tollerated.

In the summer months, don't even think about it. The path has many more walkers and many will take offence to you using 'their' path.

Didn't make a the ride AGAIN but managed a cheeky 13 miler just before it got dark.

Did a big walk from Porthtowan to Chapel Porth (big when carrying a baby in a sling!) - looks great for cycling if it's allowed?

Had to nip into Halfords this arvo and met a couple of very friendly roadies that do a bit of MTBing too - nice blokes.

Surf silly - tried to go in but it was just silly. Even the Cribber was breaking.
  • was a good ride matt, a lot of hills for you 'like going up hills' people! haha! some very good routes down and some very sticky ST,
steve took on the river crossing giving off an impressive bow wave as he flew into it! made it though, impressive!
had a minor off when not really listening to 'slippery road section' and drifted wide in a corner and entered the gulley which promptly fired me back out allowing for a classy lay on my side dismount across the road (driveway)! serves me right for not paying enough attention! (was absolutely blown out though as really felt it today)
    but a good ride!!
have added the two pictures that were in focus and the 4 vids to the facebook page.

  • Mads gave birth on Saturday to a boy. He's big - 9 lb or 4.1 kg. Looks like a boxer who's lost quite a few fights. He's definitely not a pretty boy like me.

    Everyone is doing fine.

    Any name suggestions are welcomed

Kneesup Mutha is my particular favourite

aiming to be there on the 8th...

getting some road miles in at last so should be able to hang in there. I will be in the slower group but should be fun.

Bisseo/Ricci hold the 30mile time trial down in the Lizard on the 5th of April which i hope to do...also the last soggy in March.. gives me something to aim for..

no night Tues...been a very bad year for night riding

Night ride with Kyle last night so we pushed it as usual.
Stupidly muddy but lots of fun and only one small puncture.

Found out the pitiful battery life of a Tesco Cree AA torch but managed to fit rechargeables by slicing off the "skins" so they fit. Handy as they eat normal batteries in under 2 hours. Are those P7/TK11s helmet mountable or not?!

You could always do this with the Tesco torch:

    IMG_1881.jpg

It works pretty well (for something that cost less than £25)

It was suggested that I ride the 30mile TT at the weekend. Personally, I reckon I will burn out well before the end.
Sadly I won't be attempting it anyway - not if I value my marriage! - as it is my wife's birthday.

Doesn't look like anyone fancies a ride tonight. Could be a turbo session instead at the moment.

  • Had a few great rides lately, but not anymore......bike was nicked last night from my house. It was unsecured so i was asking for it but it doesn't change the fact that some utter scumbag came onto my property and ripped off my bike.To top it all off i'd just ordered some new shimano dx pedals!....oh the joy of them turning up with nowhere to stick 'em!

Right, if you could keep your eyes out for a grey 2008 Saracen 1 with a very distinctive white Truvativ stem, grey Deity bars with white odi grips and white stickerless forks.

Any info would be greatly appreciated and rewarded.

    Thanks guys and happy riding.
  • thats really not good fella, will keep my eyes open for you,
    your porthtowan arnt you???

someone had obviously seen it and thought its easy pickings!
part the reason both the bikes in my shed are double locked, that and the fact you cant get them both out at the same time because of all the cr4p i have around the door!

will keep my eye's open around here for you matey!

Have you spoke to local bike shops?
They might stick a poster up for you.

Not good news, you don't hear of much bike theft around Cornwall.

A little while back you were looking at buying a big container of chain lube.
    Did you get it?
    Any good?
    Where from?

  • mark, i havent got the big container but have the smaller non aerosol pump can of it as got brother to get me some for Chirstmas as was low!
First impressions are very good, overs a good lubing and remains on the gear through all sorts of conditions, very pleased with it thats for sure,
    came from CRC
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... delID=5960

the pump version is a pound cheaper than the old finishline aerosol i was using but also feels like a better lube too! and is nice to be able to have a large refil that will keep you going for a while!!

Reckon it'll be fine applying it through my finishline oil bottle?

  • yeah shouldnt see why not mark, it'll be the same consistancy type of thing! i did have a thin long nozzle bottle in the shed i was going to put it in but couldnt find it in the end, but the old finish line bottles will be ideal! (goes off in search of old bottles int he shed!)

Mark - cheers for that. Not really into DIYing though!

Badlander - what a total bu66er. Will keep my eyes peeled. What size frame? I thought Cornwall was safeish too. Bristol was HIDEOUS for bike theft.

Talking of cheap stuff, got some DOT 5.1 fluid (for brakes) from a car place on-line for about a quarter of the price of bike branded stuff. Front brake bleeding this weekend! Also got car oil half price (my car takes stupidly expensive and silly oil)!!

Transporter - managed to do mine without problems last time!
I think Juicys are particularly "bleed friendly" - I followed an online video and had no problems. Big improvement in braking.

Are you the chap with the newish van and Stumpy Pro Carbon of which I'm rather envious?!

Anyone fanycy any of these events - think I might enter both:

I would do the 10k run:

    And the Sprint Triathlon:

  • I wish it was my van and stumpy :( , I'm in the Cornwall mtb club under the name of Andy2, I'm the one with the white t4 and black n red stumpy comp with loads of shiny red bits :D , probably met you but am pretty bad with names, only done the Dartmoor ride this year but will try and make it to Andy's birthday ride this Sun and loads more after.

  • matt, your thinking of Nige, new dark blue transporter with the bike mentioned!

Timmo - probably because Clive Mitchell sells them!

Transporter - oops, sorry about that.I used to do a lot of the rides but a baby boy has made it more tricky - tend to go out on my own or with Kyle these days.

Full sus Stumpy or HT? I have a 2007 HT Comp (with mild blinging) and love it!
