    Steve

The course is roughly the same. They normally make a change or 2, eg they reversed the course for one round last year.

    Tyre choice???
Yep, one on the front wheel and one on the back.

Oh, forgot, I've got 'em on the car too.

Seriously, I don't have a choice. The tyres I use in the summertime (Spesh Resolution) have less tread than what's on it now. I've got 1 Spesh Storm tyre, but not got a pair.

Good luck mate. . . . . I am expecting a good result from you and info on the course for my race.

Looks like Soggy is really going to well erm soggy!

This is from Martyn Salt, the organiser, taken from XCracer:
. . . . course is 3.8 miles. No river crossings. Two main climbs (the two from Twentyfour12 if you did that race) will hold up well. The 3 main flat/downhill singletrack sections should hold up pretty well and I think we've managed to avoid most of the stuff that gets really boggy...there's even a bit of tarmac and a blast down the newly built and surfaced singletrack that some of you spotted at round 1...don't forget your boards if you raced round 1. Race 2 has only 60 places left so we cannot guarantee on the day entries but that probably won't be a problem with this weather!

well managed to get around all 3 laps without damaging anything(apart from style panache and dignity)!!

course held up pretty well with the main climbs being either fire trail or farm track.
one stretch across a field with an adverse camber made things interesting for me(ie fell off 3 times). left before times were posted but as long as i have finished better than 54 out of 57 i will be happy.

mark was just setting off on his race when i left so no news yet

Here's Steve on his way to a top 10 finish in the Fun race today.

Me - well I got 18th in the Vets. Was aiming for top half and as there were 44 starters, I'm pretty happy with that. My last lap being more than 10 mins slower than my best didn't help though.

Steve - As for the course holding up . . . . you should have seen that nice new piece of singletrack near the river by lap 4!

    That was a very hard race. . . .

Nicely done Mark! Thought you'd do well.

Fun but very muddy cycle with Kyle and a couple of others yesterday at Idless. Wore my brake pads down to the metal though and got lightly bitten by a dog! Not enough to hurt but still annoying. Had to get a bit angry with it to get it to bu66er off - beware a pair of collies when you ride there.

Shame it's so wet again - my absolute worst/slowest conditions are wet, rooty downhills. Oh well - still fun!

  • according to yesterdays forecast on Metcheck you might want to be a bit careful out in idless for a night ride tomorow especially around 6pm!
    metcheckwind.jpg

Although they have corrected it now could still see some loose branches out to get yoU!
    metcheckwind2.jpg

either that or they have all run for the air raid shelters and hiding the impending hurricane! hahah!

hoping to get out ont he bike tomorow all being well (doubtfull as feeling Terrible at the mo) as have a new tyre and my new BB to try out! and with the rain the tyre should help a treat (another Cinder but with Full tread!!!) especially around tehidy! oooh and i have my recently enlargened around the knackers and thighs area over trousers to test too! :D (caught on the back of the saddle and ripped them from knee to knee, repaired that then realised as i swung my leg over the saddle i couldnt! followed by a ripping noise of tyhe seam i hadnt repaired!  )

  • well forced myself out for a ride today as havent been out on the bike since the idless ride, and am very glad i did!
Tehidy was slippy, wet and a lot of fun! only did the first half of the xc loop as was very slippy slidy although the second half was prolly easier as less used but slippy pine needles over roots makes for interesting cornering!!

but a good blast and has put me in the right mindset and made me feel a lot happier!

not 100% on cardinam yet as will have to see how it goes next coupl eof days and how the wife is as she's laying on the sofa feeling poo (although tempted to leaver her with th elittlun to see how she copes as she's done it to me enough times! as big Nige would say, the only place you'll find Sympathy is between Sh#t and Syphallis in the dictionary!)

  • Just saying hi

I've recently discovered MTBing and am luvin it, trying to get fit before my 40th birthday!

Bought myself a Scott Aspect 45 at Christmas, not hugely impressive I'm sure, but I haven't had a (decent) bike since my BMX when I was 14, so it impresses the hell outta me. Anyway, any tips on where I can go around Callington? I rode up the top of Kitt Hill on Tuesday and then couldn't wor out the best way down!! I can't go further afield as I blew up the engine on my van last week, which will also put a big hole in saving for a better bike this year!

    Any tips/advice greatly recieved :)

    Cheers

    Welcome Ragged.

You might want to have a look at the yogi site - http:\\yogi.terapad.com

They are a Plymouth based group.

The Cornwall boys tend to ride Truro, Bodmin and West. However they do have a Bodmin Moor ride soon, which is nearer to you. - http://cornwallmtb.kk5.org/

The guys at Certini will probably know of some other rides in your area.

Your bike is spot on. Yep, there will be people with better bikes out there, but there are plently with lesser ones too.

  • Ragged,
there may be people out there with better bikes but it matters not, for its what you udo with it that counts!

mark ha sposted all the details about clubs etc. that you should need, unfortunately only roughly knowing where callington is i can be of no help what so ever! (as per usual!!!)

    Welcome Ragged!

Mark - Kyle will be a Dad for the 2nd time! He already has a little girl.

Just did the usual morning ride and it was flipping tricky against the wind! Flew on the way back though.

At least you have a rough idea where Callington is, haven't the faintest where Illogan is! Callington is in NE Cornwall, just over the border from Tavistock, it's where Ginsters pasties cme from! I actually live in a village called Harrowbarrow in the Tamar Valley a few miles from Callington.

    Cheers

Ragged - I've been to the Ginsters factory a few times - it's HUGE!

I think the Cornwall MTB club is about the least "kit elitist" club in the UK. A few have got expensive rigs but most have "normal" bikes and are all fine with that.

You a Dubber too? Had a few myself - two Golf GTis (mk2 8v and a mk3 16v), a mk4 R32 and parents that have had them most of their lives too!
  • Yeah, like my Dubs, got a '79 Bay (that's gone bang!) and a '70 1500 Beetle (that I dropped my motorbike on!!!!). It' all good :)

I help organise Plymouth Volksfest, hence the link in my signature, it's at Newnham Park. Come to think of it we were talking about getting some kind of bike display, freeride/trials that kind of thing for the punters, maybe with some old dubs as obstacles, any ideas?

    Cheers

Maddy is mostly grumpy and really slow at walking/waddling. We thought things might be starting last night, but it all calmed down again.

Went out for a ride in Idless last night (before we thought things were on the move honest) and can safely say that is the wettest I have got MTBing in a long long time.

    You should have tried 'Soggy'

My bike weighed 3x more at the end compared to the start.
