Timmo, do you have any mapped on GPS, if so could you email me the link or file

Perhaps you fancy a day ride next week around the woods, just to get an idea of the place, as I have never been there before. It would be good to get a ride in midweek during the day, if only to tell Jane I had been busy....

Helen, Friday is good looking forward to more mud, and intresting to see Daz's Mud Tyres, who knows perhaps we will all be on them by November!!

    Cheers

    Nige.

Could be going better, work is quite a constraint atm.

Well the bike is off the road atm, seems there was some more noise i didn't hear, i replaced the lower swingarm bearings but the pair under the shock are now making a racket so i'll be stripping the thing this weekend to work out what size they are.

However the helmet mounted c1 light is great, a valuable addition i must say, i may be cheeky and order one for the other side as they aren't that heavy.

The thomson seatpost however is gorgeous, really sets the bike off.

    Timmo,

Thursday would be good for me, just give me a shout closer to Thursday at what time is good for you and we'll get muddy.

    Helen,

sounds good to me, if in some small way me doing my duty helps your guys sleep safe in your beds at night then i am happy to serve those 2 months a year......

    Daz,

sometimes the squeeks and rattles can take over the pure joy of just getting out and riding, don't let the small things rule the big things....

    Later

Yeah your right nigel, ive quickly taken it apart and the bearings are fine, might have just needed some greasing, it's not a tiny squeek it really does make a racket, id sooner not ride the thing until it's sorted.

    Helen. ;)

    Daz,

having spoken to Tom at Certini some time back about my "Carbon Creaking Noise" it turned out to be dried out bushes in the suspension, this is due to all the wet weather riding at washing with mucc-off and hose.

I have prevented the creaking by simply greasing all the pivots once a month.

The original noise sounded like the frame was about to snap in half, but as Tom explained hollow frames tend to amplify any sqeaking and groaning making it sound much worse.

Have a look in my other thread, the frame is buggered, that's me off the bike for quite a while.

what you going to do now?

The squeaking was the frame, part of it was the seatpost mind.

Only thing i can do, best get myself a new frame as/when i can.

It was knocking on so it doesn't bother me too much i got a good 3/4 years out of it.

    Daz,

sorry to hear about your bike, at least you weren't riding it when it gave out.

certinin have a last years s-works frame on special offer, can't remember how much but greatly reduced.

Chin up something good always comes out of bad, althoug in some weird ways sometimes.

Square crack right under the rear shock, bit of an unusual spot tbh oh well, i'll still be about just not riding.

Oh it'll be a full suss, something like say titus race x, gt marathon or santa cruz superlight.

Dazzza - nooooo, your Tomac was/is lovely!

I now have a Hope 1 LED light (thanks to Mark lending me his and me being persuaded to get one) - if I find out a way to helmet mount my Tesco mega-death-beam AA torch, then I think I'm equipped for some night off roading...

Just cycled around the garden (no laughing - about 1/2 an acre is ridable and very hilly! 4.5 acres are uncleared brambles/woods - might cut a track one day... ) and laughed at the startled rabbits scattering all over the place. The Hope may be nothing on a Lupine, but it's plenty bright enough for me! Good VFM too.

Oh and got a black rear Crud Guard (had some naff clear one before) - everything on my bike, even the computer, lights, rims, seatpost, bars, stem, (except the brake lever bodies and calipers (
which are silver) etc, etc are black - stealth ninja bike...! Or maybe a bit sad...
  • sounds good matt! especially the 4.5 acre garden!! haha!

keep thinking about the new crud mud guards, but just not overly sure! maybe with the onset of winter it could be sensible!

Timmo - they work a treat and weigh naff all.
And they don't look too bad...!

  • i might invest in some or put them on the christmas list for the folks!!

do like the design of the rear one!

do they do a Carbon coloured option!  :D

Timmo - you can get graphite which is sort of close! Got mine for £7.99 + about £3 delivery off teabay. They are very good indeed and you can adjust the rear one to any angle you want thanks to a great design - angled mine "up" a bit and lowered the arm so it looks a bit better now (and works better).

Just did a 12 mile night ride and really enjoyed it! New Hope light is excellent. Think I'd helmet mount my Tesco AA 3 watt death beam torch for serious off road night ride (lots of this was road and track) - any good suggestions for how to do it?!
  • sounds good matt!
i have no idea for mounting it to your lid! apart from some cable ties and a bit of old innertube?? Mark was looking at making his own lid light but think he tried the tesco torch on it so he's most likely best to ask! rather than my bodge it and scarper methods hahah!
ofcourse, if that fails, Duck tape it on! hahah!

Timmo - just realised that Mark did a rather nifty helmet mount using the (helmet mount) one that comes with the Hope light and a jubilee clip - will give it a go!

Needs to be easily removable as the torch is proving to be very handy for late dog walks too.
  • just buy another mark!!!!

you may try something along the lines of -

I know you probably don't want the cable, but they may do the mount cheaper?
