XC in Cornwall - any willing volunteers ?

BTW Matt there is a ride at Idless this weekend.

You can also pop down to my place Thursday night. I'm riding iro 30miles out & round Newquay, with about 40% of it off road. (you'll need a light for the road bit on the way back)

Thursday night is weights night but I might change my strict (and quite nerdy!) routine. Will let you know.

mark, there is always the fowey triathalon (if its still being held??), used to be run by the lions club, swim from the middle of the river to polruan, (1/4 mileish!) cycle to lostwithiel from polruan and then run from lost withiel to fowey! lots of hills etc! apparently used to be a god one to do!

nobody knows me on here so don't worry about that if you wanna come. i have the day of friday so was planning a ride on friday in luxulyn valley near st austell. anybody fancy it give me a bell on 07912882972. can't say i'm an expert on the area but know a few rides and fancy checking out some more.

Don't suppose you fancy doing something similar one evening next week?

Can't do days, but as I'll be working in St Austell next week I don't mind going straight after work (5.30 ish)

It would be great to find some riding around that area.

Hayle 'sprint' is on 2nd August

Let me know if you (or anyone else) fancies Thursday eve. Don't want loads of people as we are going where there might be a few walkers, but happy for 3 or 4 to come along.

i will be moving to st blazey as soon as our house sale is complete i currently live in newquay i obviously havn't updated in a while. thats the reason i'm so keen for rides down that way i'd love to check out my local trails properly.
I'm allways up for a ride so most evening i can make myself available. my luxulyun valley experience consists of of the road to the eden project from st blazey and hang a right up the hill i know theres some good trails there and a few elseweher that other people have taken me so don't really know where they actualy are. :?

I've never been up that way, so no idea what it's like.

I know there are supposed to be a few trails through the Pentewan Valley (St Austell - Meva).

Are you coming along to Idless this weekend?

St.a way there are a few trails mtb wise, a couple oif woodland spots but yo ucan ride from B&Q into pentewan on the trails, nice little ride, can also follow the footpath that takes you up to heligan too which branches of the pentewan trail, (area of parking at london apprentice) also a few routes through Kings woods too,

there are a coupl eof more roadie orientated routes from St.a up around eden too, but havent ever ventured that way, always used to go to pentewan!

dan, come down to iddless for sunday! will be a good ride! although i am out with the mums from the toddler group the night before so may be a little weary!

I rode (yep that thing with thin wheels) from work in St Austell to Eden for a meeting yesterday - Brilliant! saw 42mph on speedo.

However it wasn't so much fun coming back up that flippin' hill out of Eden & up to Penwithick. I still needed to ride home as well.

Can't complain averaged 18.4mph Eden to St Columb Road going via Roche.

Averaged the same coming in to work this morning too.

Only because I do it every day - in board shorts and a T shirt

Only know the terms from other physical stuff like running - I guess it all (apart from the lycra shorts) crosses over a bit

What time is the idless ride on sunday, ive only gone and frazzled the 1kw psu in my main rig, oops lol, flaming coolant was meant to be non conductive. :evil:

question about roadie bikes though, how much easier is it to keep a good pace on the road bike in comparison to the mtb?? (not looking at one, just genuinely interested!) do the roll a lot quicker??

Riding the same bit of road:

MTB 18mph
Road approx 20-21mph

However hills are a lot harder when your bottom gear is 39 - 27 (compared to mtb in middle ring 34 - 32)

On anything more than a slight decline when you can pedal the 53 - 12, then riding above 30mph is well within my capability.

Eh? You know who I am and we've ridden "together" several times. Had to change my username - but it's Matt, the one with the black Stumpy and blue jacket - the sub aqua river crosser

If I was pee'd off with someone, I wouldn't post it all over the forum.

Disagreements should be addressed personally, not publicly.

Well, we can choose a decent climb/flat trail somewhere, and errrrmmm race up it!

No point including downhills as I'll gibber around and fall off.

Could be a good laugh - I think. 8)

Adrian seems quick on hills too - both up and down.
