Thanks for your replies. I am starting my new job on 1 August and will be moving to Falmouth sometime in mid-July.

I am pretty spoiled for good trails at the moment: it takes me 3-4 minutes to access more than 40-50km of mainly forest roads with over 1000m elevation - not that I do those distances regularly...

Judging from the OS map and google, Bodmin moor seems to offer a lot, but that's quite a long way from Falmouth. I got used to just take my bike and go for a ride without having to drive anywhere or take the bus/train etc. I would love to be able to continue riding like that.

I had a look at the website linked in your signature, Timmo, and it might be a good idea to come along to one of your group rides once I (and the bike) have made it to Falmouth, if that's OK.

Aurel, the more the merrier i think is the group moto!
the difference with falmouth is most things are donw by water! haha!
there are a lot of trails about and from penryn you can access the devoran to portreath trails theat run through Bissoe (many many trails through here!) and also, Cornwall is very hilly so you'll find many hills to try on! (dont know where your coming from sorry!) there are a couple of truro riders that do some longer route's around the area too (if you look back through the thread you can spot them!)

there are a lot of possible routes around, and am sure there are some in falmouth area dying to be found out!

You'll be in falmouth for Falmouth week then! busy busy busy then! and agreat week! (or 10 days as it is now!!)
    Timmo.

Thanks, that does sound reassuring! I was getting a little bit worried there... I am living in Hungary at the moment. You can check the area out on google: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=b ... a=N&tab=wl - all the green bits to the North are great for biking.

I will definitely join you for a ride. Hope to see you later in the year!

Hmm, ive ordered the shock, it 'may' be in for the weekend im really crossing my fingers seeing as im running the ride this weekend. 'gulp'

I'll update if/when it's due to arrive, he said hopefully by the weekend.......
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

My Word! Hungary to Falmouth! thats a serious Move!!!
there are no shortage of hills around here and as falmouth is a seaside/docks town tis water level and on the side of a hill so every way out except for the water is up!!!
If you loike riding up hills then Mark and Matt are the ones to ride along with! they like their up hills!;):D:P

Falmouth is quite hilly, yes, I noticed that when I attended the job interview. I am not sure I actually like riding up hills, it's just something you have to do to go down the other side... though a tough climb can be satisfying in a way I guess.

Anyway, I am looking forward to Cornwall. I used to live in central London - not much mountainbiking there.

    So do i!!

Pita though because of this gorgeous spell we are having, but it's good in a way as the shock will be setup for my weight and riding style plus should anything go wrong i can easily send it back.

He did say it should arrive for the weekend, i just couldn't chance letting the side down

But the ride will probably be good for the 18th.

    Thanks Helen.

Can't do next Thursday, have something else on.

Had a great ride last night. 10min in and chain snapped. Luckily 200yds from main road at top of hill. Coasted back to the car where I had a spare link. Then back out.

Not sure that prepared for this weekend's Tri. Did first & only swim for 5 months on Tuesday. Think I might be relying too heavily on my cycling.

Mark - I was out an about non biking yesterday (but managed the 10m ride and a 4m run in the day) - I'd just go for it - coast the swimming a bit if needed and use it as a marker for other tris. Just don't overdo it - each section is pretty doable, but add them all together and it's pretty knackering.
You should be okay on 400m - just do "power" breast stroke (fully submerge between each stroke) and you'll probably hang on to many of the "crawlers."

Best of luck though - would be interested to see how you found it afterwards.

I saw you last night, I was coasting past while you were at the Jet garage outside Redruth. I was admiring some damn fine bikes!

Rach - Helen mentioned you might come along.

I'd say give it a go - bit of a mix of cardio and the odd climb and drop but the good thing about Bissoe is that you can get off and walk around any obstacle if needed!

It's a good laugh, totally non competitive and there's a nice cafe in the car park (well I like it anyway).

    Tri was great today.

Won't get my time until tomorrow.

Swim seemed to go better than expected. Cycle was great, felt comfortable for all 16 miles and passed quite a few others. I was expecting the run to be a struggle, but I had a lot more energy left than I expected.

Saying that, it don't mean I'll get a good time!!! It just means I did it within my capabilities.

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement etc.

Stroke of genius Mark. I'm up for that. The two 5km runs I'm not too keen on, but fighting gorillas oh yes. And I did take part in the 2002 Woorld Bog Snorkelling Championships, so the diving in bogs should be fine.

Mark - yep. Slight consideration is that our baby is due on 20th September - but hopefully it will arrive on time and so all will be good.

Timmo - no problem. I thoroughly deserved it for gaying through that puddle! Glad the back is healing up well. You have some decent battle scars though!

Dazza - any luck with your rear shock?

Mark - nice one. You must be chuffed to bits? Sounds like no real areas of weakness which is handy - lots of tri competitors fall down on the swim.

Annoyed my knee decided to go when it did - or I would have given it a go. Done several runs recently and it seems fine now.

Rachel - good to meet you and spooky that you know Liz! Maybe we'll have to do an MTB club trail run at some stage? Seems a few of us are into it.
