Errmmm - hopefully you'll not be needing to actually go to Treliske Timmo!

It did pick up a bit yesterday but was still a slightly weak. The weekend was good (just gone) and I should be on it later today.

Expecting another slide fest at Idless using my complete lack of mud handling skills (and rather inappropriate tyres). Maybe wear some knee pads this time Timmo?!
  • knee pads! HA! i think a bubble suit would be better!!!!
knee is nearly all healed from last time so ready for another pounding hahah! (although scar on the other leg isnt so quick helaing!)

mud tyres! thats for those that take it serious haha! i shall be rolling on my summer trail tyres! wahooo!

  • Dan,

I live in St Blazey just around the corner from Luxulyan and ride ther 2 or 3 times a week. I'd be happy to show you around one evening.

I also have a route which links Luxulyan with Kings Wood (near Pentewan) via the clay trails and the eden project which I tried last Sunday. Its a good 3 hour ride which needs a bit of tweeking to avoid a couple of short road stretches but would show you around most of the best riding in St Austell.

FSR_XC, would be good to see you as well. Think I owe you a tenner for some photos you sent me from the Soggy Bottom 3 race. I haven't forgotten, just rubbish at getting around to sending the cheque.
  • Helen (and everyone else)

I'm more excitingly known as Dave and turned up with Spookylee and Adrian for the ride at Bissoe a couple of weeks ago.

As I've mentioned to Dan I have a decent route around St Austell and thought if anyone fancies it we could plan a ride for Sunday 11th May. Its pretty tough with some challenging climbs and long woodland singletrack

It currently ends with a couple of miles on lanes and road so if anyone is dead set against roads, it may not be for you - it is worth it for the rest of the tracks though.

    Waddya think?
  • dave, if you have a look at the link in my sig and contact andy as there are a few dates for rides and i know St.a area would be good as weve not been up that way yet!
used to ride penrice woods, down to the sewage works along the trail by the river before they made the new one and into kings woods thenonto pentewan village quite a lot with Cornwall outdoors when i worked up there, used to be some good trails around kings woods but be damned if i can remember them now! devils drop was always good! especially on cheap bikes with equally cheap V brakes!

    Hi Dave.

Yep, ya right about the tenner.

Would like to explore the St Austell area sometime.

I was hoping to do a Dunmere ride Thurs evening next week and I am busy Tues & Wed eves. One eve the following week?

Will you be at Idless this weekend?

Timmo - shame you can't make it, being chief of club comedy!

Mark - you are doing some serious training! What's the spilt between road and MTB cycling?

Truro is a nightmare for cycling (I cycle through it each morning) - Cormac seem to have dug up te entire City!

    I normally ride around 30 - 40 miles a week.

Can't say that's serious training really.

I got the road bike a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't ride much first week though.

This week I have done just over 60 miles.
    30 on road bike.
    30 last night (40/60) off/on road.
Another 15 on Sunday should make for quite a good week . . . .

Considering you normally do 50+ miles a week, I suppose I'm quite lazy.

Ideally I want to do more than 50miles a week in future.
That'll mean at least: riding to work one day a week, a night ride and a weekend ride.

Mark - I guess we have it quite easy working from home and being a bit flexible.

If you look at the Commuting section, there are some that commute 20 miles each way every day!!

How was the ride last night?
Surf was pretty decent but horribly crowded.

Surf looked pretty good last night.

We went along the coast path from Bedruthan to Newquay. Decent ride & a great evening.

Commuting to St Austell office is OK at around 14 miles. Biggest prob is the lack of showers. I have been thinking of driving in one day then ride home. The following day I'll then ride in and do the early swim at the leisure centre.

Commute via the leisure centre and grab a quick shower before work?

Trouble with upping fitness is that you need to do more and more - which takes up a lot of time!

    You running/swimming training yet?
  • Dave,

That sounds like a great plan...can't do the 11th May as have a 24hr race...Daz also has planned a ride with the Truro group so are the dates flexiable ?

Dont think there is a ride Mon 5th of may a bank holiday any good...

also can ride after work some days work permitting..

doing a long ride Sat starting at Truro..going to Bisseo...charrack....carn marth...carn brea...and back..not very technical but hard due to the distance and off road....all welcome..

    Helen

Typical . . . . said I'll do Idless now . . . . . and I have a wife that I need to keep happy and spend some time with on Saturday!

Do you fancy a ride Bodmin way Thurs eve? (I know it's nearly a week away)

    BTW what's the 24hr on 11th May?

    Dave

    Meant to say - 11th is no good for me . . . . I'm in Helston.

    Matt

I ran 3.5 miles on Monday (first time for 3 months)
Hope to do the same tonight.

As for swimming . . . . must get round to doing some of that!

    Nowt like preparation eh?

Doubt I'll be waiting for you. Prob have at least 2 others going, one of which is a beginner.

    and Jane?

    CLIC24 - Isn't that the cancer charity?
    Hope it goes well.

hi guys, im not sure ill be out on sunday. think i might retire for the next week from mountain biking. dont want to injure myself now of all times. however i will catch you bunch of scallywags when i get back for time off.

good luck with the training guys, especially mark and matt who have turned into even bigger fitness freaks than before. good on ya. im spending my time running now. got my mile and half under 10.30 now which isnt too bad.

take it easy and enjoy the riding

Helen, mind if i join in on tomorrows ride?

It's going to kill me, i plan to ride to bissoe first. :?

I'll do my upmost to make idless but can't guarantee it as i may have something on. 8)
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

Well what i may do is leave early here and take it easy to truro to save killing myself, i have to keep up afterall.

Or failing that see what trains are about in the morning, i may get lucky and find one with bike spaces.

So, where in truro will you be meeting?

  • Tesco...then heading along the old railway line which brings you out behind new county hall. Up penweathers lane and into the bridleways...any good ?

you will have a long ride if you cycle to Truro, but can cut it short when we are near home for you...if needs be...

got some of that Zym stuff you spoke about..sounds good...

I'll play it by ear, im quite relaxed atm so i'll probably be fine.

Aah i think i know the lane you're on about, always seen it never got around to riding it.

That zym stuff is great, i certainly get along with it, i find sis/high5 too sweet and overpowering, zym i can throw down all day and not be affected.

if you like Zym, try Nuun too. Similar product, but better flavours.

    Anything going on on Sunday?
