Hi.
Just wondering whether we bumped into a few of you from this forum this evening. We were having a break at the eastern end of Tehidy when a gang of mountain bikers arrived behind us.
Cheers,

Won't be too many this weekend as the Freeriders have a trip to Dartmoor.

Most rides are Sunday's, unless you fancy a night ride. Trail Riders do a regular Thursday night.Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

Rockhoppoer update - Tora 302 U-turns fitted.
So much more plush than the original Manitou Axel and up to 130mm travel to boot.
Hayes 9 brakes expected in the post on Monday. . . . .
Question:
Now my Stumpy has a 2010 frame (but 2009 everything else) can I say I own a 2010 Stumpy or a 2009?Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

The rear shock went on the Stumpy.
I had been talking to Certini for a while about the finish on the frame, particularly where there was some cable rub under the BB. They suggested I write an email, mentioning my concerns and then at least (as I'm already without the bike while the shock gets sorted) I can get a report from Specialized.
4 days later, x1 American Stumpy Pro carbon (with red detail) frame arrives at Certini with a bag of bits (my old bike).
Now I have a bit of everything.
1. They don't do the Pro in the UK.
2. The 09 spec is the same as the 10 expect for colour (eg White wheels on 10) and I have carbon brake levers.
3. The biggest difference is that the 10 bike is 140mm, the 09 120mm, so I have 120mm forks.
So Comp spec with Pro frame & 120mm forks . . . . . still a 2010 bike?
UK Expert: http://bit.ly/d1EjKm
USA Pro: http://bit.ly/dsSnSR
09 UK Expert: http://bit.ly/aJybny
Anyway, I ain't selling it & even with 120mm up front the ride is amazing.
The Rockhopper is a bit of a plaything.
1st ride was a bit sketchy, but dry. Took it out one Sunday morning with the Trail Riders (had no choice Stumpy was gone). Again dry & it coped alright.
1st wet ride. Fast bumpy decent, forks bottomed out & I came off. Further round the brakes started grinding (now I remember why I don't like rim brakes) and are losing power, so I slow down.
Now I have adjustable forks, so I can play around with geometry etc and disc brakes should arrive Monday.
Tomorrow's ride (on the Rockhopper) could be interesting . . . . .Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

quite like the red details on that frame!! subtle and look good!!! good result!!
might be worth asking if your rear shock can be extended (much like the rs forks but a little more complex due to the can etc.) although, 120 f&r is normally plenty ebnough for uk riding!!
tomorrow should be okay, due to be wet and windy today but dry tomorrow, a bit windy maybe, should make the ground nice and firm and grippy!!Timmo.

Had a hilarious ride around Pendarves Woods on Sunday, just south of Camborne. We looked at the route in - mud/leaves/rocks - and asked ourselves what's the worst that can happen? It's always a good way of dooming ourselves Didn't take more than a minute for me to slide on a rocky bridge over a stream. From there it got very wet and muddy and before long we were cycling upstream. Later Al pointed out a slippery boardwalk and then proceeded to fall off it. When we left the woods we cycled up a bridleway that was so muddy the wheels practically clogged solid. A very tiring morning but great fun
A bit of cycling on the roads this evening in the pouring rain, but hopefully it will be warmer than last week when it dropped down to 3 degrees. Brrrrr!0 -

Your more than welcome to join us anytime you fancy. Were an easy going group with more emphasis on having a good laugh than a full on serious milage ride,
Had a first timer out with us on sunday around bissoe, you could see the confidence in her grow as we rolled along,
Only had 11 out though as lowish number for a bissoe ride, but a couplke of the guys gave a good display!! ( Have a nose on cornwallmtb club on facebook! Pics are up!)
Mark, what's your mud tyre pic for this year?? Or fav amongst the Trailriders at the mo?? Doubt I'll bother changing mine but you never know!Timmo.

Rockhopper update
Post mounts arrived from Superstar Components today.
Fitted front brake, inc disc to my Superstar front wheel.
Part fitted rear brake. Problem - no mounts to fit the hose. Top tube mounts that had the cable routed through aren't drilled to accept tie wrap etc.
Decided to finish it tomorrow. . . . .Stumpjumper FSR 09/10 Pro Carbon, Genesis Vapour CX20 ('17)Carbon, Rose Xeon CW3000 '14, Raleigh R50

cable ties mark! i used some of the cable guides that fit into the original and consequently hang below or to the side of the mount, work fine but not aesthetically not good! went for the drilling option!!Timmo.

Finished the brakes on Sunday - first test ride and the lever pops out, complete with circlip and washer, leaving the piston free to come out.
Managed to get home holding the lever in.
Need a service kit now!

Well I decided to hook up with my route setting partner in crime today, Mr Laverty, AKA Muddy Fox. Plan was to hit the cornwall MTB December Epic and get the route down in our heads. Start was the great flat lode carpark in peice at 9:30, but rain delayed play till 10am.
We started with a blast up to camborne on the lode, up the epic stepped hill, down the super steep tarmac slide of death, then to the 'heaven track'. At our usual turn right, we went left down to brea, under the railway once, then back under the railway again for good measure.
The route then was unknown, we just followed the newly positioned mining trail signs. With the new bike freindly gates, it was a breeze to follow the route in towards camborne. There was a little bit of a road crossing - a hill, another road crossing, a jaunt through the college and one last road crossing and we were near the back end of illogan. We followed a little lane and soon came out in a well recognised area, just up the road from another cornish mountainbikers abode (timmo, this means you!). We just had to cross a road, fly down a hill, take a left and we we're in illogan woods.
We booted it through the woods. I was grinning ear to ear as I wizzed through the leaf mulch, with only occasional rear end out action reminding me just how slippy this stuff is!
It was only the narrow concrete 'gate' down in the woods that slowed me. 30 inch bars and narrow hard things dont mix.
Down into portreath, we just had to cross a road to get onto the trail towards the barn. We gently minced our way to the barn (or I did). We had a quick stop at the barn to review the map, and I had a devistating short killing meeting with my saddle; ripped right up the middle, thankfully I wear MAN TIGHTS (insulating wicking trousers) to keep my legs warm in the winter.
Then a simple blast through to scorrier, up past smokey joes and right towards chacewater. We ended on the road opposite the entrance to unity woods. Down through the woods (which were a lot drier and more fun than I'd expected) to the bissoe trail. Then up off onto the little beside loop. Just before poldice, we turned off up the road (after a misguided attempt to find a bridalway that, on the map, appeared to be wide and next to the road - it was invisible and resulted in a hike a bike through thick scrub).
We then headed off towards St Day, right towards busveal and eventually ending up at Carn Marth. We beaned it to the top (well, I got about 1/3 up, before my legs died, mark got to the top - git). We stopped to admire the scenary (and to recoup and munch on some tasty treats) before hammering down the 'awesome downhill'.
At the bottom, we just hooked onto a road - span (huffed, cursed and limped) our way back towards the mining trails. Turning off, a last epic hill of the day from the road around the base of Carn Marth. At the end of the track, we decided to branch off instead of follow the signposted route to take in the 'rocky downhill' back onto the road. A mince up the road, a crossing, another mince and we we're back on the mining tracks towards peice. Just a case of finding the power to make the last few miles. Talk of past biking conquests and the days trails past filled the air. Before we could blink, we where at the car. Tired, Sore - Happy. Possibly the best ride set by cornwall MTB club? I don't know, that would have to be judged - but If the club enjoy it as much as we did, it might just reach such an accolade...
Roll on 14th Dec. It's a 4 + hour ride not a little mince about, we need to keep riding at a steady pace to do this in the hours of daylight available. We have allowed for inevitable technicals, as always, but expect to be out all day.Big Rich of The Cornwall Mountainbike Club

how was the ragley?? nice to be back on the springy steel???
the anti tank wall at the bottom of illogan woods is where i base the width of my bars from! need to be able to Fly through it without hitting!! i know the 680's plus a hands width and an extra finger fills the gap!! otherwise could end in a mass of comedy bikey stoppy me carryon through moments!Timmo.
