Does anyone work? - Im up to my neck in work and my bike is still in bits! - meaning to be out early doors in the morning for a bit of a shake down with the new brakes, but I cant find the time to piece everything back together!

    Grrrrrrr!

I "should" be working as I run my own business, but the law dictates that the internet should distract me on a Friday.......

Good to hear its holding up OK to the wet weather. I remember riding there after torrential downpours and there were still good bits.

I'm checking out a car tomorrow so we might be able to meet you there. Otherwise i'll look into trains to Dorking or maybe we can do BBH?
  • I'll have the car on Monday, so if we can split the fuel cost's (about the same as the train fare) i'll pick you up and we'll meat in the usual place. Sorted :D Unless you get the car and want to give it a test drive  What car are you looking at?

I'v had a couple of good rides round Blean the last couple of day's. Muddy as hell but i'v got some of my fitness back again so i am actually enjoying it again. I was really having to force myself to go out knowing i would feel like sh@t when i got back! Can now do 20+ miles after work without collapsing :D I can't beleave how long it has taken to get it back again though!

Glad to hear the fitness is coming back Andy. Hold on, maybe i'm a bit worried ;)

I'm looking at a, erm, Russmobile later. I've had my eye on one for a couple of years and have decided to go test drive another one. I'm not just copying you Russ - i promise  By the way, where do you get your hair curled? ;)

Right, i'm off clothes shopping before i go out...

Well i'd all but decided i needed something bigger like a Golf or another Focus but having seen you can get 2 bikes in the back of yours i'm going back to a nice smaller car. The spoiler on the back of yours isn't standard kit is it? Just thinking about getting a bike rack on the back so we can fit 3 in one car on a day trip to Afan ;)

The spoiler on the back of mine is the standard one as you would get on that one, the cupra has the slightly larger one. According to all the chaps on the seatcupra.net forums you cant get a bike rack on the back of any ibiza. The spoiler does pretude away from the metal bodywork a fair bit, so it would be really difficult to get the straps onto the metal parts of the boot. I tried my mates top of the range halfords rack on mine and it was a no go, the spoiler was bending and just in the way. I have however seen an ibiza with a bike rack on the back driving by peaslake i just couldnt stop them, i think they had straps that go inside the boot but i still think there spoiler must have been bending loads. Tow Bar or roof rack is the only way to go, recently as Mark knows ive been umming and arring about buying a roof rack, the thule aero bar one is about £115 plus £50ish for the bike rack.

Got any questions feel free to ring me or ask on here.

Shame about the bike rack. I have one anyway so i'll try it out but the spoiler does look like it'll get in the way. Ah well looks like i'll have to stick to just the 2 bikes ;)

Everything seemed good with the car and despite not being able to knock the guy down quite as much as i wanted i went ahead and got it. I kind of figured what's another £100 if you're already spending a bit.

Andy - just a sneaking suspicion but i think it might be cheaper on fuel to take my car over to Surrey on Monday. And that way we can have a convoy of grey Ibizas going through the Surrey Hills  Where do you want picking up? I don't think Whitstable is too far out of the way so PM me your address

Sweet, i'll get you a sign saying Andy's taxi then :lol: I'm quite jelouse, i like them too. How much did you pay for your's, i'v noticed quite a few around the 6K mark, but they were main dealers. And yes your's will be WAY cheaper!

If you'r shure my place isn't too far that'll be cool 8) I'll pm you my address now.

I paid £4275 - wanted to get it closer to 4k but its in near perfect condition and it only got to the dealers yesterday so i didn't have too much to bargain with. Its a 53 plate though with reasonably high mileage - what with the mortgage etc i couldn't afford much more

Lol if you get one we could have an 'XC in Kent' fleet ;)
  • Yeah that would realy piss Russ off  Once i have got a new frame i am definately going to get some wheels sorted. I am sick to death of haveing to get the train all the time. The trip back from Sevenoaks a few weeks ago was hell!
  • Tried a Saris Bones?
They "hold off" of the boot and should clear any spoiler

    Unless its an Escort Cosworth!!!!

I think the straps would still get in the way of the spoiler as they'd still need to go along the top of the boot to hold securely :(

What time are we meeting tomorrow? Not TOO early please ;) Late morning (say 11?), ride for an hour or two and have a spot of lunch at Peaslake? Then some more riding in the afternoon? :)

they can mount on the top lid or back of the boot either side of the numberplate, i would say it would definately be wort a look.
  • Nick you could have bought my car... now on auto trader perfect mtb car  pm me for details..... rightttttt advert over.

Hopefully will have a new car in Feb or march (dont worry Russ) I wont get a Grey Seat

What's going on with the rear brake cable, have you lost one of those stupid plastic clips? I would ditch the rest and use cable ties. Also i know my saddle looks a little high (apparently ) but yours looks a little low. Is your leg strait when you put the back of your heel on the peddle on the downstroke? Other than that, not bad. My boss has the same bike and he is well happy with his. I used to have a Carrera frame and it was bombproof. I seriously exceeded it's design limits and it's still in one piece, it's a prety good frame to upgrade on, i changed absolutely everything on mine! I would suggest you change the wheel rims next, as they easily weigh twice as much as my Sun Singletracks! It was sooo much faster after i got them.

havent had the plastic clip thing since i got it :?
The saddle feels about right at that height i should really change it me being 6 ft 4 and all but i tried having it the right size and got so annoyed with it

i shall have to add the rims to my list :P have banned myself from buying anything more on my bike

but im going to have to break that as one of the spokes broke  dont ask how as i dont have a clue

    anyone up for sunday?

Heavy rain and gales? Boo :( Let me know whether you can make it or if your bed is more appealing!! Andy - are we riding anyway? If Russ can't make it shall we do BBH instead??

My bike rack doesn't fit on the car :( Well it actually fits fine but all the weight is on the spoiler so i don't think it would stay on for long when it was loaded up!! Russ do you have the factory fitted stereo and do you have the removal tools? If you do - any chance i could borrow them? I want to rig up my ipod and pump out some banging Eskey beats ;)
