Think I may have to drop out of the races 2morrow.. Been wondering if I'm ready to race on an actual race day yet anyway, depends how I get on with the track too.

I'm more swayed towards coming out with you lot, seeing as my main passion is XC anyway. We shall see.

  • Well that's a no for me 2morrow, as much as I really really want too, I don't have the will or the energy.
I'm going to Penshurst instead, but not racing.. They seem to of forgotten about those of us who don't jump off everything in sight, and some of the jumps are so big you could easily fit a car or two into the space...
I'm going to spend the day there with my camera, mostly as the potential for some great action shots is just far too tempting...

Here's a taster of the kind of photo's I get. These I got this evening while checking out the track...

  • Bugger!

    Ain't it always the way!

Doing a "bit of a service" on my bike this arvo and have knackered my front brake! I think I got some air into the caliper. They are Deore disc brakes and I have tried to bleed the air out using the bleed valve but the brake lever offers no resistance and no matter how many times I do it there is always air coming out. I think therefore that there is now air in the calliper that won't shift. So I reckon I'll have to use the "bleed the calliper" method except I have no pipe small enough to go over the bleed valve. Arse!

Any ideas anyone? I am following the instructions on the Shimano website.

If not then I will have to miss tomorrow as I have NO front brake and that is probably not the best way of setting about BBH! :x

Sounds like you defo need to bleed it if there's air in there :( You might be ok with just a rear - but would have to take it easy on the descents... Mind you it's easy for me to say cos its not me without the front brake! I'd offer to bring something to help fix it tomorrow but i have Avid brakes so have a completely different bleed system

stick a post on the "wrkshop & Tech" forum. They'll answer in seconds.
I'm in the same boat as PittPony, I ain't got a clue about bleeding Shimano's. But I do have experience of trails with NO front brake
  • Think I might have it (kind of) sorted. I now have a front brake but I have to pull the lever all the way to make it bite. Hey, ho. I will come along tomorrow anyway and hope for the best. What would be the worst that could happen.............? :(

That's the spirit :D At least if you have to take it easy there will be someone else as slow as me on the downhills ;) Now its kind of working again don't do what i would and fiddle with it until it's well and truly broken

I never use the front brake when riding off road. I have found myself kissing the dirt too many times. I have nearly gone through a set of rear pads in 3 weeks though  On several downhill sections last Sunday it faded to the point it was completely useless.

Oh and you just reminded me, i am riding tomorrow and havn't bedded in a new front set yet! Looks like i am going out in the cold for a while

Have a good one tomorrow guys,

    Andy.
  • Bollox! It seems I got ever so slightly let down, the one thing I hate just as much as ignorance..

By the time I knew what was going on (That said, I've still not heard from my mate) it was about 10 past 9, would of taken me ages to get the BBH..

    Maybe next time eh guys..

Really quite f**ked off I missed riding with you lot for fack all.

Yeah top ride today guys and a great turnout! Sorry you couldn't make it Papa Smirf :( I'm starting to get a bit more of a feel for where everything is in relation to everything else but it'll be a few trips yet before we go without a map i think!

Some challenging climbs and some great downhills today. I'm not sure if SBezza and I enjoyed those steps quite as much as you did Russ ;) I'm still buzzing though :D

Hope the aches and pains aren't too bad Ade. Thanks again for the lift :D
