Do you have no brakes? Why on earth did everyone leave their bikes in the run off area as well, thats just asking for trouble :D

hmm its only 33 miles apparently, thought it was further. How long do you think you will ride for? If the Turner works properly tomorrow with no fork issues I may wander up

I still don't know why I didn't just use my brakes  That was one of those moments of madness. And the bikes were definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time  Oh, and the previous time I rode down that, I ended-up in a bush  Maybe I'll leave the "sketchy" bits to the 'nuttier' riders  (you know who you are...)

It looked impressive till halfway down, nice tail out slide into the roots but then you just sped up and failed to eject in time heh. But yes in seriousness, ensure good clear run outs whenever trying any new technical bits regardless of your skill level!

OK, I've changed the post... Don't think anyone noticed anyway.... T'was a bit subtle

As for routes, I'd like to say "I know it like the back of my hand", but I'd be lying. I'm pretty sure there were some maps posted on earlier pages, but if you don't find anything and no one posts any suggestions just follow you nose.. The routes are pretty much like Blean in that they all loop around each other so you should get a pretty good taste it without a guide.

Cheers Ade, did a search on this forum for BBH and Map and low and behold it came up with this thread, downside is the search is pretty poor as to find the relevant information i have to trawl through 261 pages of inane banter to find it...

We really do need our own easy access forum with separate threads for wednesday riding, weekend riding, credit cards, lifts to events light years away, comedy fall off videos, the list goes on!!

OK i will settle for a simple left or right out of the lookout as i am "Looking out" over the landscape after that i'll make it up!

Or maybe i'll go to Bedgebury

Dont go to Bedgebury without 8" of travel due to the holes

Yes perhaps a thread which is purely and ONLY to specifiy ride times with the first post having all the google info would be best and point any discussion regarding the rides to this one

OK Rou – here goes an attempt at where to ride at BBH… Note the map is of a previous ride and isn’t exactly the route I’m describing. Sorry for pinching the map off your site Russ

    BBH130308-vi.jpg

From the lookout I tend to go left on the road and take the second proper bridleway on the left – it’s a steep DH section, quite rutted so if you’re with your gf then take it steady! Eventually this’ll take you out onto a road – turn left and keep riding for maybe a mile until you come to a junction where you can go straight over onto some singletrack which will bring you out near the main road. Go under the bridge, pass the petrol station (which will be to your right) and bear left over the railway track. If you ride up for 5/10 mins up the path ahead you’ll find a gate on your left which is at the bottom of a huge steep uphill. It’s a bitch, I’ve never got much more than halfway up without grinding to a halt. At the top on the right (just before you reach the field) is a section of singletrack that you follow all the way along. This is the North Downs Way – follow this past the farm and you’ll go on a short road section before you hit a style. Right at the style is a good (but again very rutted and steep) DH which brings you out on the road at Boxley. Take the road left and you have the option of going into the woods to find some singletrack or following the ‘pilgrims way’ road to the southern most point of the route marked on the map. Left here, up a short bit of road onto a flinty, lung burning hill. Left at the top onto the NDW for some more singletrack and eventually you’ll come back to the same style you were at before. Go back past the farm, retrace the singletrack from earlier and you can either go back down the huge uphill or follow the field along to the left and take a left into the woods near some large rocks for an awesome but very technical DH – its OK to start but there are several long flights of large wooden steps to get down towards the bottom. Great fun if you can pluck up the courage to give them a go :D This will bring you out on the bridleway near the garage and you can either retrace your steps from earlier or go right onto the road, straight on at the junction with the pub, up the road and along the footpath back towards the lookout.

Or you can just follow your nose as if you successfully manage to follow that without getting lost I’ll give you my Chief Scout Award badge ;)
  • if memory is correct, come out of car park turn right then right again at the end of the road. Thats about the best i can do sorry.

BTW you forgot to vote :D

Edit (better follow nicks advise as he knows it "like the back of his hand")

Ok... this thread is getting a little out of hand to find things in now. Perhaps we should setup a little website???

Anyway, I wil try and recall what I want to respond to over the past 3 pages:

BIKERADAR LIVE : Myself and 2 friends are going and we are entering the Enduro as a taster/trainer for our 24hr. I have a van, and have no problems if anyone wants to dive in the back with our smelly kit. Although still no info on the festival AT ALL - come on BR people! Would be good if the XC in Kent collective could present a few teams.

BBH : We'll be up there on Saturday, see you there Jon as discussed approx 9am. Our route is different as we park/meet near the Hilton and ride up Boxley hill from there (not nice when not warmed up! - killer!) Will be a slow one, as Ive probably lost all fitness that I gained, and some!.

    Erm.... anything else Ive missed.....?

We dont ride to the stupidly steep bit as we will be missing a load of ST either side, coming down is fun though! - overtaking cars doing 30mph is a test of nerve!

I dont mind lending a hand, the "other" one I was working on seems to have taken a back-burner by the "investor" in the project.... (sounds official ay?)

Its well easy to setup a similar site to what I was working on, those who had the address will know what Im on about.

Bmjboy: Along those lines, there is a mad evil bridleway although only about 2 foot wide in places, down the side of Ditchling Beacon which is brilliant although I dread to think what would have happened had someone been coming up it when I rode it in the summer with heavy foliage blocking my view heh

I didnt have the legs for Ditchiling when I did the L2B a couple of yrs ago - got about halfway up and people got in the way - quicker to walk!

Yeh, I bet theres some great XC around there, should be explored on day!

Done it twice in recent years, both times with a buggered right hamstring so couldnt ride that fast but we did it in 3hrs 30 ish riding time. my friend did it on his 3 speed folder the 2nd time and rode up the Beacon dropping me but that was due to injury heh. The year before he dropped me on his road bike (I was on the slick shod Breezer) and I had to ride like mad and caught him about half a mile from the end! Strangely despite being a couple of minutes apart at that point, we both did exactly 51.3mph down the last hill with some extremely lethal slipstreaming 8) 8) Couple of write ups inc pics of route map etc on his site http://darkrepository.com/index2.html

Ive only done one mtb ride up there, got the route map somewhere at home, not much singletrack, more "normal" downs stuff but fun anyway

edit: If youre really bored download this is the route map of the L2B http://darkrepository.com/maps/l2bmap.html
