I fully agree, xmas should be banned. I really dont see the point at all unless you have young kids which may make it fun. Just a reason to spend money which is better used at CRC etc although I need a lie down after just adding up how much ive spent with them over the years

Sorry McBlip, I think we're talking about our usual Wednesday 18:45 @ Blean.
I'd like to do a night ride at Bedgebury but, even if I went straight from work, I don't think I'd get there till 19:30, at the earliest. We'll have to arrange a weekend 16:00 meet at Bedgebury soon.

As always, you're more than welcome to meet us at Blean, McBlip.

Kids these days are so spoilt! I had to make do with a carrot and cardboard box!

Whilst you are at it, may as well pick up one of those £50 or less cartridges which you can then copy roms, music, videos etc to heh (not that I agree with software piracy.....)

Well Im being completely selfish this year and went down to my LBS and made a nice list with the owner for things for my bike as its a little sorry for itself at the mo.

£200 later.... The list is now with the family for them to go in and buy things.

Thinks of it as an Argos WishList but much more bike oriented

I think CRC, Wiggle etc should adopt my strategy and have Wishlists for us folk who have everything (but you never do have everything when you're a biker!)

I want to get out riding between Xmas and new year, I fancy Swinley again, but that depends on if I can get my brake fixed.

A suspension post won't make you faster, it'll just make you bounce up and down and make you sea sick, as it aint got no damping.

  • guys, me thinks you go to Swinley, am i right? it sounds like good fun.
only i'm planning a bit of a mtb tour of hot spots this weekend and was thinking of taking iit in but need some info on where best to park and start :D
  • As some of you may of seen... Crc have sent me the wrong powerlinks, they've sent me 9spd ones, but I only have 8spd. I may keep for 1 pair for my I-drive for when that no doubt breaks but that leaves 2 pairs sitting around doing nothing. Anyone want them for a couple of quid?

Yeah i'll have those if your sure you don't want them. When you riding Blean next?

I'v been fiddleing again! Finally given in and shortened my bars  I cut them down to 680..........feels a bit weird, might take some getting used to  Also went the whole hog and fitted the old 50mm stem just cause i was board :)

Well with the amout the I-Drive gets ridden, I reckon 1 pair should get me out of trouble should I need it. The other 4 links (2 pairs) will just end up sitting around. Cost me £4 for the lot so call it £2 quid? Small I know, but hey I'm not Santa
All going well I can make Blean asap.. My final 2 days at work this week till the day after new years so maybe if a ride's happening, I can make it!

Not wishing to try and thwart your business deals, but i think you can never have enough spare powerlinks. I usually carry at least a couple of spares just in case - sods law you won't fit one properly and it'll end up pinging off into the undergrowth...

Do we have 4 for tonights ride at Blean? 6.45 again? Shall we meet at Ade's parking spot to save me hanging around like a man with a dog in the car park for 10 minutes...? Defo want to do those bits of singletrack off the black route - they're pretty decent. Also looking forward to my favourite hill - i have a weekend of sloth to burn off so i'm going to hit it HARD!

We've all done Swinley at some point, Ive only just started.

You need to park at the main car park which is The Lookout on Nine Mile Ride Road:

    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=&daddr=51.388152,-0.739861&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=15&sll=51.387638,-0.736041&sspn=0.019898,0.05579&ie=UTF8&ll=51.380888,-0.732908&spn=0.039803,0.11158&t=h&z=14

Swinley isnt signposted at all (apart from signs back to the Lookout and various wooded areas) You can just follow the crowd, or better still hook up with some regulars to find the best bits.

This PDF may help you decide on where to go - just keep an eye out for singletrack paths!

I'm Game, although might be slower than usual as we have just come off a deadline and I have been up all night for the last three days. Currently look like a zombie too so at least I'll be the scary looking fella chasing after you in the woods. 6.45 At Ade's car park it is...

Thanks Nick and Andy for a good ride tonight, i was so so so close to not coming as i have been feeling pretty ropey all day from a lack of sleep. The first 15 minutes i was thinking what the hell am i doing here, but after that i got into a bit of a rhythm and really enjoyed it! Shame it was so muddy.

The best bit is that last time after the ride i was very close to death. This time i managed to clean my bike and cook myself dinner. Don't feel too bad at all so obviously i am getting fitter.

    Thanks again!

We obviously didn't work you hard enough ;) Glad you enjoyed it. The mud was a pain in places but great fun on some bits. Did you hear me giggling like a little girl riding down to the BMX jumps knee deep in mud? And talking about knee deep, those puddles i 'found' were something else! I can only just feel my toes again after my double immersion...

Hopefully fit in another ride before Christmas - i'll post nearer the time :)

No pobs, was a good laugh tonight  And mate, if i had as little sleep as you there is NO WAY i would find myself in a freezing muddy wood instead of my bed, so nice one for dragging your arse out with us.
Last year i was forever screaming "bloody mud!" and "I hate mud!", but now my bike handling has improved i actually quite enjopy sliping and sliding all over the place, especially some of the bits on the Kent-Trails ride a couple of weeks ago. And the more and more you ride the quicker and less painfull the recovery. I remember last year i regularly got home feeling really sick and couldn't go up or down the stairs for a couple of hours, i just collapsed infront of the TV without even eating anything for hours after, so you are doing much better than i did!

Shame you couldn't make it Ade, you missed Nick living up to his Nick the Mud nickname trying to drown himself in the biggest puddles in the whole of Kent  Sorry mate, i am still giggleing to myself about that

Haha those puddles were hilarious, well done Nick for taking them like a man! Glad i was at the back and was given plenty of warnings about hazards ahead!!

Body clock is now all out of whack and i can't sleep, go figure!

Gonna ride lots over the festive break and who knows soon i might even keep up. good to hear you all went through the "pain" when you got into it!

Puddles can be lethal as you dont know how deep they are. I went on a long weekend to the New Forest before with a friend. Literally 100m into our first ride I went through what looked like a small puddle in a rut only to find it was over a foot deep, the front wheel stopped dead, myself and the rest of the bike agreed with the laws of momentum and I ended up on my front with the bike somehow perfectly balanced on my back but upside down. Unfortunately this was pre camera phone days as it would have been a brilliant photo

Yeah even i have to admit they were damn funny. Not sure about taking them like a man though - i was giggling like a child! The second one was the funniest, you'd have thought i'd learn the first time around

Breezer - very much the same kind of situation except thankfully i didn't go right over the bars. Those bad boys were deceptively deep! And Rou - those logs floating in the first puddle weren't moving until i got in there with them so it looked like the puddle was much shallower than it actually was
