A big thank you to everyone who came along to the club's first AGM last night. There was a lot of good ideas coming forward and the meeting was held in a good spirit and I reckon it bodes well for the future of the club
Big thanks also to Foz, Sadiq, Bill and Matt for doing a good job of keeping such a motley crew in order for the proceedings!
Keep your eyes peeled for details of our first reliabilty ride which will be held on Sunday 15th March 2009!0 -
For all the budding road racers out there, take a look at this....

Good meeting last night and some good decisions made (apart from keeping the shirt colours for longer than it takes to wear it out).
Any idea what the Sunday run's looking like. I have an early morning drop off at the airport but might be able to join up but that depends on the route you're taking.
Let me know what the plan is.
Thanks================================

Enjoyed the run today thanks.
Particularly to Matt and Bill for coaching me up the hills.

got to the start at larbert late and missed group 2 so had to go out with a quick scratch group of about 18 bodies. headed east into the headwind and managed to hang in to kinross, the turning point, somebody went off the front after kinross and the bunch went rapid, got dropped and rode the rest of the way with 4 others. average speed up to that point was 24mph  no doubt helped by the bunch getting towed by a tractor into kinross and by the time I got back to larbert it was down to 19 1/2 mph.
i didnt see any of the earlier groups at the start so no idea what sort of numbers were in those....may go again next week for the stirling tr club I think...wouldnt mind making the middle group though!0 -
Sadiq - Sounds a bit full-on for February 1st!
I tried the lang wang for the first time in ages. Everything was going OK until I got hit by the snow on the way back near Penicuik. Didn't get back from the airport to try for the club Sunday run. Any idea where it went?================================

Hi all,
Good run on Sat and a good turn out, felt the legs a wee bit when I got home. Headed out today on the tandem with Mandy. Went Bathagte, Armadale, Avonbridge , Slamannan, Fannyside Lochs, Cumbernauld, Kilsyth, Carronbridge, Denny, Falkirk, Maddiston, Torphichen and home. What a long climb up to Carronbridge I thought it would never end, very cold but dry and a bit of sleet towards the end about 54 miles. Hope to get out again next weekend.

Mark - Sorry to hear you didn't make it out, maybe get some of those ice tyres with spikes. Was it your 40th at the weekend? Did you get a nice bike?
OS 650 -
Andy, did you and Mandy go up Tak Ma Doon? into an East wind as well! Chapeau :!:
Sadiq, That reliability sounds brutal!
I'm intending going along to the Stirling Tri run next week although I'll be off in the first group Need to hope the weather improves in time - Glendevon could be interesting in wintry conditions, no?!? When you catch me do you mind if I wheel suck back to the start :?:
Glad to hear there was a good turnout on Saturday - I was at Edinburgh Zoo - brilliant! I haven't been for years and it's even better than it used to be - a great day out and probably burnt more calories walking round there for 5 hours than I would have if I'd went out on the bike!
Got out for 70 mins yesterday morning for a 20 mile run on the fixed at 16.5mph - thought I was the bees knees heading towards Glasgow at average of over 19mph until I turned round and headed for home and realised there was a ferocious East wind that had been helping me all the way
The rest of yesterday was spent eating party food and getting stressed to the eyeballs with a house full of far too many weans! It's my daughter's 6th birthday on Tuesday.
 Spent the evening planning a fiendish route for the reliability in March
70 miles and 5900 feet of climbing or 30 miles and 2500 feet. Keep yer diaries clear :!:0 -
It was noted at the AGM that the planned date of the etape caledonia recce of 22/03/09 clashes with the Dalmeny Audax.
I won't be doing this event so still plan to go up to do the recce.
Just letting everyone know in case anyone was planning on doing both.0 -

There's someone looking for a 56/58cm Madone in the classified section. Did you say there's still one in your garage?
Could pay towards your new bike ...0 -

Hi Grant,
It certainly was Tak ma Doon, what a long slog up, then a hell of a descent, Mandy was screaming her lungs out as we hurtled towards the ford at 30mph, I got plenty of nips on the arse to try to slow me down, glad I did that ford looked as though it would catipult you off if hit at speed. Hope to get out soon once this snow clears.

Nice one Andy,
You could always bunny-hop it?
That descent is the fastest i've got on a bike - 42mph. The other side is steeper but too many blind corners mean you can't get the speed up until you drop down past the golf club.
I have a love-hate thing going on with the Tak Ma Doon It's a nice climb up from Carronbridge (which you will get to enjoy if you do the Reliability )0 -
Here is the route for the March Reliability run: -
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/We ... Full-Route
and here is the half distance route: -
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/We ... Half-Route
There will be a feedstop in the Carron Valley after the descent off Earl's Hill before the riders head back to the Carronbridge hotel. This is roughly half distance.
For the half distance riders there won't be a feed stop however you will be able to stock up at the start at the Leisure Centre on the same things that will be available to the full distance riders. Myself and Tobias haven't decided definitely what will be provided however it will include bananas, some form of energy drink and other edible treats and perhaps a hot drink. The cost of entry to cover this will be £2 to £3 however we will aim to keep it as low as possible.
As yet we have no arrangements for food at the finish however there is catering at the leisure centre where people can suit themselves if they need scran at the end. If there is demand we can enquire with the leisure centre to see if they would be amenable to doing some kind of deal on something like soup, sandwich and coffee, for example but it might be simpler for people to do their own thing as it will keep entry costs down.
We have not arranged use of leisure centre facilities yet (i.e changing and showers, etc.) however hopefully this won't be a problem.
Lettuce know if you intend coming along on the day.
Please note that for insurance purposes this event IS NOT an open event and is restricted to WEST LOTHIAN CLARION MEMBERS ONLY.
If you aren't signed up yet then why not use this as the perfect opportunity to come along and meet the club!!
Extra edible treats for anyone who joins the club on the day
Route cards and descriptions will be provided on the day so no excuse for getting lost :!:0 -

Reliability run looks good to me. Which way round is it being done? Is it up or down Tak Me Doon?0
