  • This reminds me. We should have a bike jumble sale in autumn. It's always good fun. 10% of proceeds go to the club (or £10 a stall).

Grant, we still need to chat about the reliability trial - either Sunday or at the AGM.

Ok, Tobias - we can catch up soon re. this. Any more thoughts on it?

Hey Sparky - have a look in Robin's shop - I was in getting a few bits and pieces on Saturday and he was offering some right good deals.

He had a particularly nice Ridley Noah frameset which he was trying to sell me at a crazy low price!

Just think - I went home with a CO inflator, a spare tube and a rear brake calliper and she was nearly onto the law!! - imagine I'd walked in with that

P.S. if she saw this I'd get done for slander 8)
  • Might just dust my road bike off and pop out for a pedal around on Saturday too. I've been threatening to for long enough and need a break from dissertation writing so it's as good an excuse as any!

    is it still 9am?

    Bill

Mrs P loves the look of the bike, but in red(not yellow :()

Its a bit beyond my means at the moment

Should have been out at 9am but forgot to charge my garmin. :x

Will be at the Hanger this Tuesday if it's on. I don't think I can make the AGM this week. My wife has things planned.

Ah well the forecast looks good for tomorrow and rotten for Sunday so I will try and venture out tomorrow however as I'm on fixed I shall venture out on my ownio as there ain't no way i'm getting up the hill from Torphichen to KWM on it!

Have a good one tomorrow and Sunday whoever's out.

    Cheers,

    Grant

But fixed is better than geared on hills!

I was wondering which bike to take out myself. Might be best on gears tho as my main riding of late has been the 7 mile sprint (on fixed) across town to uni.

    Hi Matt, how's it going?

I can only speak for myself however I do so with the utmost AUTHORITY when I say that 30*25 is DEFO better than 46*17 for getting up to the KWM :!:
  • Suppose riding down again would be fun too!

I'm doing ok thx, figured I'd best come out to play this weekend cos the next weekend I'll have free will be in March! :?

How was it today. The weather was looking good when I left work at 6.30. Very little wind but it was quite icy up the braes..

Since ive not been getting out with you guys much lately,Ive started taking a longer ride to and from work taking in an extra few hundred feet of climbing and doubling the total milage. My wife and everyone else think I am stupid. I have to admit at 6.45 this morning I had to agree.

Has anyone decided which items of club kit to buy? After trying on some endura kit in a shop over the weekend, I'm probably going to opt for the Pro Road Jersey at £59 because the fit was really good and it looked pretty cool. But to save some cash I'm probably going for the cheaper regular bib shorts at £40 instead of £55.

Anyone got any views on the thermal jackets? I was thinking of the Roubaix jacket because its warm and breathes although it isn't waterproof. I've seen a few guys are buying the windtex jacket? Anyone ever worn that style? What are they like?

And Grantus - have you seen the selection of MTB gear? You'll wet yourself when you do!

    Cheers

I finally managed to make it out on Saturday - was a really good ride with lovely weather. Headed out via Skinflats as far as Stirling bypass then returned via plean and falkirk. A good 40 miles round.

Gonna try and make it out to the AGM on Thursday (probably with some membership fees). Was also thinking about getting some club kit but alas my student budget doesn't quite stretch that far at the moment. :(

Mark, Dura Ace wheels are still in bags with only 2 miles done on them. I was out this morning early. Left from Doune to Lochearnhead round St Fillans over the Moors to Braco. 64 miles in total. Then off to work in Callander for 4pm.

    Matt,

No MTB gear for me! (well, maybe a t-shirt  ) I'm a fully fledged lycra woofter now!

I think I'll opt for the windtex jacket, the bibs and a long and short sleeved jersey. Was thinking about some bib tights as well but probably won't bother. a couple of pairs of socks and some lycra overshoes will be my whack

I ventured out on my own on Saturday on the fixie. Condorrat down to Kilsyth then along the A803 to Bonnybridge then over to new Kincardine bridge via Larbert. I did a partial recce of the Mountain TT route. That climb up out of Saline is a bugger on 46*17  Some of the Dunfermline road club passed me on the climb however I managed to stay ahead of one of them - hurrah!

Stopped at the top for a wee chat with the guys before heading over past Knockhill and down to Powmill past the now closed Milk Bar. The Mountain TT route then heads back along the A977 towards Kincardine however I decided to head up to Muckhart then back to Stirling via Dollar and the A91 - nice fast road this with virtually no climbing and a good descent from Muckhart to Dollar for almost 3 to 4 miles. From Stirling I made the mistake of heading out the Kippen flats into the wind rather than just going home. By the time the Kippen flats reach Arnprior they ain't so flat anymore and up through Buchlyvie and past Balfron I was really suffering - 2nd worst I've ever felt on a bike with the worst being the time I did the Merida 100km off road at Selkirk.

After reaching the Aberfoyle to Glasgow road I headed up to Strathblane and the pain eased a bit now I was out of the headwind. From Strathblane it was a nice wind-assisted run home to Cumbernauld via Lennoxtown and Kirkintilloch.

102.5 miles all-in at an average of 15.5mph. Finally got the ton 8) but I won't be doing it again in a hurry - my legs still hurt  :!:

Matt, that Knockhill TT route is definitely worth a wee recce - I'm considering doing it on the fixed. Not sure to drop down to 18 or 19 tooth cog to help on the climbs although the long descent down to Powmill might be interesting on that gearing :)

There are a couple of nasty wee hills near the finish of the route from the A977 up to Comrie then from Comrie over to the finish in Saline it's only 2 miles but lots of climbing.

P.S. I was speaking to Jimmy Harris yesterday and it turns out he passed me in his car on Saturday as I was suffering near Buchlyvie - could have got a lift home!!

I bow down with respect to you Grantus!
102.5 miles at 15.5 mph on a fixed! I bet you were wearing shorts too!
I just did two 20x2 turbo session in between the work, humph
I reckon if you want to race the Mountian TT, use gears, if you treat it as a training session use the fixie

Matt, no shorts - those days are gone! Sadly the offending ripped articles have been binned by Mrs Grantus so it's tights all the way with my Aldi compression long johns underneath!

I don't seem to be able to manage over 14mph average on my geared bike when i'm out on my own - the fixed feels so much quicker with the exception of steep hills.

I reckon I'll give it a bash on 46*17. My target is to beat 90 minutes so that is an average of just under 17mph. 20mph would give 75 mins and I reckon the top guys will be in at around 60 minutes. If I beat 90 mins I'd be delighted with that.

I'm going to use fixed for the club 10's as well - Tobias has a nice set of tri bars he's selling me so I'll be sorted to launch my assault on the club BAR competition
