Lettuce know if you intend coming along on the day.

Please note that for insurance purposes this event IS NOT an open event and is restricted to WEST LOTHIAN CLARION MEMBERS ONLY.

If you aren't signed up yet then why not use this as the perfect opportunity to come along and meet the club!!

    Hi Grant

You can put me down on the start sheet.Hopefully the snow will be gone and be milder.

    Regards

It was noted at the AGM that the planned date of the etape caledonia recce of 22/03/09 clashes with the Dalmeny Audax.

I won't be doing this event so still plan to go up to do the recce.

Just letting everyone know in case anyone was planning on doing both.

    Grant

Are you still looking to do this recce?? and any other takers?

    Nice one EPO.

    Sparky, you are now committed!

Mike, the run will leave Linlithgow and head out to Larbert via Grangemouth and Skinflats. From Larbert it will go up Carron Valley via Denny as far as the Carronbridge Hotel where you will then turn right and head for Stirling. Before reaching Stirling you'll turn off left past North Third reservoir then head up and over Earls Hill and drop back down to Carron Valley where I will be waiting in a nice warm car. You can then get something to eat if I haven't finished it all off by the time you get there

After filling yer boots you'll head back down Carron Valley to Carronbridge Hotel then climb Tak Ma Doon the easy way and drop down the steep side into Kilsyth. From there it's an easy run along the A803 to Falkirk through Bonnybridge.

I've decided you should all work for your grub therefore the route goes up the ridiculously steep unclassified road past the Battle of Falkirk monument before going up the even sillier climb to Shieldhill from High Falkirk. From there it's a drop down to Westfield via sunny California and Avonbridge. Sling a right at the Westfield roundabout and head up into Torphichen whilst doffing a cap to the Hanger! Right again to Bathgate then the final climb of the day will take you up past Cairnpapple and past the KWM where the WLC began many moons ago! and back down Preston Road where you will then return to the start where you will either congratulate me and Tobias on such a good event or give us a boot in the cherries for making you go up all the hills. Hopefully it'll be the former. :P

Half distance will go the same route to Larbert but then head back along the A803 to Falkirk when the full route heads off to Denny. There will still be the steep climb out of Falkirk to the monument and then Shieldhill to negotiate for the short route however they are spared Preston Road as they return to the leisure centre via the Lanark Road after the Westfield roundabout.

Now, stop keeping me aff ma work :!:

Cracking piece of work Grantus and EC. I'm in! This is worth the membership on its own
The road from Shielbrae to the Carron reservoir is a corker! it feels like you're on the roof of the world.

Matt, I've only been over that road once but remember the pain on the way up :D

EPO - brilliant - the more the merrier - at last count there were 6 or 7 people expressing an interest so it could be a good day out if we get the weather for it.

Bill, sorry but I can't manage tonight - today is the wee yin's birthday so it's a nice tea and then either Mamma Mia or The Wild on DVD :D

    Have a good 'un!

    Nice one David,

Sparky, I think an ABBA soundtrack might be a wee bit too macho for the Hanger

Malcolm, thankfully I think the finer points of the parentage question will sail right over her head! If not, she can ask her mother to explain it :!:

Another good night at the Hanger, Craig, Bill, Stevie, Mike, Jonathan, Mark and Matt turned the pedals and listened to a comp tape from Matt, which wasn't entirely well received. :?
Thumbs down for Fairport Convention (it was meant for the less intense bits of the work out
 ) and the sweary Libertines but a big thumbs up for ACDC and the Stone Roses
Luckily we didn't manage to get to the George Formby track. There was something for everyone you see
  • Hey guys been threatening to come along to the saturday ride since before Christmas but never managed yet. However been waiting for new chainset for commuting bike as inner ring is shot and the hills wouldn't be much fun on the big ring, (good bike only comes out in dry weather). Should be here by end of week, so prividing I get time to fit it hopefully will be out either this Saturday or in 2 weeks time, (working next Sat).

Was in Halfords today and met John, he is a great ambassador for the Clarion and should be on commission, nice chap and very friendly blethered away for about an hour on all things cycling.

Anyhow, hope to meet you all soon.

    Regards

I shall give you a call about energy drink,as I found somewhere that was a bit cheaper than the RRP on SIS PSP22.......

    Lovely stuff guys!

If this cake is as good as you're making out Sparky then there may be none left by the time you reach me - after all, I'll be sitting up in the Carron Valley on my tod - I'll need something to keep me occupied!

I too forget my login for the Blog.

Bill, if you do this on fixed you're a legend!

    Cheers,

Just organising the new sprockets for the road and time trialling. I have the new Giant demo bike for the weekend so hopefully it's not too icy

I will have a look at the route and see if the fixed is an option for a go at the RAD !!!

What gearing have you decided on for the Kirkliston course?

I intend giving 46*15 a bash which is an 81" gear to see how it compares with the way i've got the Bowery just now - 46*17. With those jazzy aero bars El C sold me I reckon i'm a shoe-in for the TT league title

As for the RAD, I reckon something like 46*20 would be do-able - not sure about the climb up past Falkirk monument and Shieldhill right enough and you'd better unclip on the way down Tak Ma Doon unless you can spin at 180rpm

Hopefully the ice will defrost today and tomorrow as the weekend forecast looks really good and I was hoping to do the Stirling Tri Reliability however it goes up Glendevon which could be a tad dicey :!:

I am going for the 81" gear for the TT course so we will see how hard that is to turn

I think feet off pedals would be in order for the decent of the Tak !!!

I will be out on Saturday for a blast on the demo bike weather permitting of course.

Funnily enough I'd asked Jimmy Harris something similar and he'd said that in his day a 66" gear would be generally considered summer gearing and 60" for winter. That would be for riding all day.

For competing in TTs he told me 82" was typical for racers of the time on their fixed gear bikes.

81" may be a slog for me coming back out of Kirkliston - we shall see!

What bike have you got on trial?

I got my new Allez Elite on Tuesday - lovely it is! Seems a shame to spoil the look by putting mudguards on - might stick with fixe for a few more weeks till the better weather comes in.

    Cheers,

    Grant
