Grantus
If I'm not mistaken, I think you're the first West Lothian Clarion rider to cycle a century this year
Chapeau!

Yeah, Major respect Grantus! I'd struggle to do the ton on my own on gears and on less challenging terrain at the moment, never mind on fixed!
and as for riding a mountian TT on fixed, I'd put you well in line for a lead role in the next superman film!

Ah well, you know what's going to happen now don't you after 'bigging' myself up?
It'll be G Thomson - DNF on the mountain TT result sheet0 -

Lads,
is there anything i can buy to clip a pump onto my road bike? gets a bit annoying cycling with a rucksack everywhere1
Also, i pumped my tyers up hard yesterday and got a flat, the hole was right in the middle of the innertube, sort of in the seam,do you think this was caused by being to high in pressure?
Turned back from the forth road bridge yesterday
then i got my flat,serves me right! haha!0 -
The lack of my bike has really been getting me down. I have been training on an old raligh pioneer I borrowed from a mate on my trainer and my 98 Kg goal has been met. But my sonoran has had it BB wont come out.
So I have ordered a new bike - Dawes Audax Supreme
You know what its like when you get new toys!
It wil be my first bike with drops and my riding style is a bit heavy handed which is why i went for something a bit bullet proof. I can always take off a few more Kgs to make up for what the bike is carrying0 -
I'm assuming you're using a mini-pump? Normally they come with clips that you fasten to the bolts you attach your water bottle cage with. Not usre if you can buy replacement versions.
re: the puncture, what kind of bike are you riding? Mountain or road? Either way, it should say on the side of the tyre what the maxiumum pressure is. generally speaking, road tyres are good for about 120psi whereas mtb tyres are usually run at a maximum of 40 or 50 psi (but often around 30-35 for serious off-road riding).
I've not heard of tyres puncturing because of the high pressure unless there is something inside the casing or the tyre or there is a sharp edge on the rim bed. Do you remember going over a bump or hitting a stone in the road or anything? Tyres do sometimes blow due to sudden impacts but that generally results in what's known as a 'snakebite' puncture where the inner tube gets caught between the rim and the tyre, resulting in a puncture which usually has 2 holes next to each other (Iike a snake has bitten it).0 -

You could order one of the club's new cycling jerseys. It's got three back pockets so you can keep your mini-pump in one of the pockets as you are riding along

Can't mind of hitting anything,it wasn't a blowout as in the loud bang type, just seemed to appear, was pushing the bike thru a walkway when i noticed it,also, when i fixed it,the inner tube had stretched and wouldn't fit round the wheel, thats why i assumed i had put to much air in it? it's a road bike.im going to order new inner tubes but the old tube is blank, how do i know what size of inner tube to buy?
cheers0 -

Shameless plug! I like it!!!
I shall be e-mailing my order form to Monsieur Young this afternoon!0 -
i was looking at the inner tube i replaced and there isn't any snake bite holes,it's the middle seam of the tube that is burst, also there is no writing on the tube and i need to order some spares so how do i know what size to order?
the tyre has 25 - 622 and [[700 X 250] written on the outside of it if that helps? all these codes and numbers is quite confusing for the beginner
What size of new tyre would i need also? i cant see any on wiggle with the same writing on them?
thanks again

Sounds like you had a normal puncture from a bit of glass or thorn. Best thing is to vist your friendly neighbourhood Bike shop. Robin at the Bike and Ski Clinic knows his stuff.

Here is a link on mending punctures:

Your inner tube wouldn't stretch permanently as far as i know. Before you put the inner tube back onto the wheel only pump it up a little, enough to make sure it doesn't get pinched when the tyre gets put back on. if you pump it up alot it will looked stretched when off the wheel.
An old cycling parlour game (before the invention of the internet, obviously!) for bored cyclists, of an evening, was to give an inner tube a few pump-ups and then pass the tube onto the next cyclist to do the same, this went on until the the inner tube got so big it exploded. the person pumping last bought the next round.
ah, happy days

Matt,
The old days make me sad
+1 for Robin at the Bike and Ski Clinic - I turned up unannounced the other week while he was busy and he found the time to have a look at the bike for me straight away and sorted me out with a new brake calliper for a great price.0 -

Hope everyone that goes enjoys their beastin'.......... :shock:0 -
epo - got it mate! cheers,
what does the writing on a tyre stand for 700 x 250?
cheers0 -
it should read '700x25' that is the size of the tyre. 25 being the thickness in mm.
if you want to pop round and see the pumps give me a shout, 01506676322.

My new bike arrived today, it had been left next door when I was out. I saw it in the box for aboput 5 mins before leaving for backshift I actually thought about calling in sick to get it put together!
Still I only ordered it yesterday morning so I'm pretty impressed withthe delivery time!
All going well I'll be out on Saturday0 -

Dawes Audax Supreme. should be about right for me! 8)0
-
Oh no! Not another Dawes Warrior!
You'll be in good company! Peter Buchan has one of them and he revels in hammering the bunch with it's turn of speed
The first day I met Peter I made the mistake of thinking he'd be slow like me as the bike looked like it weighs about 30lbs plus he's got a rack on it and big chunky tyres as well! Never saw him the rest of the day0 -
The bike I just killed was a dawes sonoran touring and beating me down 5 stone has taken its toll on her so I've went for a bit of an upgrade. I'm thinking about getting the parts transfered onto another frame though so triggers broom can look out! It will mean I have a bike for shopping and touring and a faster bike for training.0

Hey!
Looks like I'm not gonna be able to make it to the AGM tonight. After brifely surfacing from underneath my pile of research papers last weekend to enjoy a pedal around with the club I've now crawled back under my papers for the final push towards my deadline next week!
Hope it goes well tonight,
