    Hi Mark,

I haven't been out on it yet. Just built it up and ordered a set of SPDs for it.

I reckon going down KIngscavil on a fixed might be harder than trying to get up it! I've only been up it in a car so far but it seemed like there were half a dozen or so more demanding hills in the area (or am I setting myself up for a rude awakening when I finally attempt it!!!)

One thing - my rear wheel sounds quite noisey - like a loud clicking. I reckon it looks like the chain releasing from the fixed sprocket on it's way round but wondered if yours was like this?

    Hi Grant

Not really been on it long enough to notice, although it does have a noisy freewheel.

    Mark.

    Hi Sparky

here is a link to a report about the track champs in the West Lothian Courier!
    http://icwestlothian.icnetwork.co.uk/co ... _page.html

Grant: Fixed bikes do have fairly noisy sprockets especially if the sprocket isn't lined up with the chain ring. Is it a regular click? Can it be attributed to the wheel rubbing on something or is it definitely the sprocket? What ever you do don't get your finger trapped under the chain!

Sheldon Brown has some really useful fixed information here:
    http://sheldonbrown.com/fixed/index.html

As for Kingskavil, I've not been down it, I don't reckon it'll be much fun! I've been down Beecraigs hill and as long as you have rear and front breaks you can feel in control.

Last Winter I remember having a knee popping ride trying to keep up with Bill and Stevie down a gradual gradient. My gear ratio - (70") gets uncomfortable to spin above about 24mph and impossible above 31mph...

    Hi Matt,

It only does it when the bike is upside down and the cranks are being spun.

Turning it the right way up and lifting the back wheel while spinning the cranks doesn't give the same noise so I've ruled out a loose spoke.

I haven't been out on it as yet as I'm waiting for pedals. I'm pretty sure it's the chain making the noise as it disengages from the fixed sprocket. I'll apply some lube to see if that does away with the problem.

If not it must just be a noisy sprocket. Defo not the bearings as the wheel runs very true and smooth.
  • Hi Matt

Well done. Does this place you in the Top 20 of the WL Clarion?

With the ToT getting closer, Foz has kindly offered me a lift to Peebles but can only take one additional bike. Is anyone else from the Lithgae area going and could take another bike? It's not essential but would be appreciated if possible.

    Cheers,

    T (EC)

Great! welcome to the club. I'll hold back sending it to the Clarion HQ until October that way you'll get an extra 3 months membership and won't have to renew 'till Dec 09!

    Well seeing as you asked!

I did 50km on my fixed on Sunday and as I write this on Wednesday morning my legs are just about recovered.

Couldn't believe how sore they were on Monday though! It never hurt that much when I first got into mountain biking!!

No pain no gain? Or maybe swap the wheel to run freewheel next time

    Hey Grant
I was surprised how sore my legs were after my first short ride. You'll feel it in your legs after the next few as well. After not riding the fixed for a while it took me 3 days to recover from the the track champs in Manchester!

I won't be out on Saturday I'm riding the 4th cat crit in Glasgow after the TOB departs. eek!

Hope someone manages a ride today, its lovely!

    Yeah, will persevere!

I shall try and manage a quick local blast on Friday, weather permitting, before heading down to Manchester for the weekend to visit family.

I'm looking forward to the run a week-on-Sunday though.
  • Anyone going out tonight?

Anyone doing the Pedal for Scotland on Sunday?

    Hey El
The thursday ride has 'officially' come to an end because the nights are drawing in. Bob turned up last week though...

  • Have they?

Oh dear, oh dear and it's still summer. Sissies.

When do the Sunday rides start? Are we meeting on Tuesday?

    So many questions ...

    EL
  • Tobias

I'm working at pedal for scotland between 1 & 4 on the Hopetoun bit. I'm thinking that you'll probably be through by then.

Does the Saturday ride still exist or has it been replaced by the Sunday one (but with more cafe stops)? Have to say, I'm getting a bit confused by the schedule here, could OS65 post to separate the truth from the conjecture?

    Thanks!

  • I got out tonight and went Armadale, Westfield, down through Muiravonside (passing Bridge Inn at about 1845), Lithgow, up the Preston for the second time in three days 8) and over the hills to home. Passed someone on a nice Specialized at Lithgow Bridge who I didnt recognise...was a nice night, got to get out when it's dry!

Saturday runs stay as they are.
8.00am from the Korean War Memorial.

Sunday runs start 21st September 9.00am from The Cross in Linlithgow.

There are no other 'official' club runs

    Howzat?

  • Hi Malcolm

I'll be riding my folder and be part of a small, probably not very fast group. So you never know, I might see you at Hopetoun. Have the towels and hot tea ready for me.

I don't know whether I come out tomorrow or save my legs for Sunday. But then, I haven't been out with the gang for three weeks (I woke up late a couple of weeks ago and went out on my own - North Berwick and back. Nice ride and probably easier than Bill/Stevie's 90 miler).

Speaking of Bill and Stevie, I must have missed you last Sunday. I was waiting from the woosh of Team Cervelo passing me at high speed - but the woosh never came.

You didn't chicken out because of a bit of rain, did you?

Good luck with that Matt. I will be going out later today maybe around 4ish for a 35 miler then out again tomorrow with the gang. Me and the mrs are going down to see the TOB at Wanlockhead on Saturday then on to Drumlanrig afterwards.

See whoever at the KWM 8am

Change should be when the clocks change, I'd like to discuss at the meeting on Tuesday whether it should move to 9.00 during the winter, last year riders form the West had to do a fair bit of riding in the dark to arrive at 8.30
  • Hm, the Gazette has put Foz's words in my mouth. But it doesnae matter, not now that I am famous.
