Planning to go out on Thursday night if anyone else is up for a run out. Who is going out this Saturday?

Might be out for a ride thursday, I'm racing in the Clarion track champs on Saturday so won't be out. 6 events over the day and then watching the Salford Nocturne race in the evening with all the olympic riders taking part

I was going to do some short intervals on the turbo this morning but was knackered so took a leaf out of nicole cooke's book and eased off like she did for her training at the olympics! Hope igt works for me!

Bill - could you get the details of any new riders who come out and I'll stick 'em on the mailing list

    Hi Bill
I cleaned my bike during the day and went out on the Pedal Power run last night.Got home like a drowned rat :( and the bike needs another clean...
It was a good, albeit windy run,and i came home 5th only being caught by two from the second group and one from the third(and one that got away from the first-just in case you thought i could not count).Speed is creeping up slowly. :)

I have ventured into the unknown and today received a Fixed/Single Speed Giant Bowery ( not from Brightons as there was a great deal online  ) Just about to build it up and take it for a quick spin along the street. Its not fixed at the moment as I shall have to get a tool to secure the sprocket.

I should be out OK tomorrow for a spin.We are losing light quite quickly at night now so a light may be a good idea.....

    Hey Mark,

You are a die hard mate, I am becoming a bit of a softy with this weather, absolutely fed up cleaning my bike after every run.

I am looking at the fixed wheel as well at the moment and still deciding what to go for??

I will have to start kitting the winter bike out with lights and mud guards already !!!!

See you tomorrow night at the Bridge Inn. We ae going for a sready spin as Matt has the Clarion events over the weekend and that should save our legs a bit for Saturday. Are you up for a long one at the weekend maybe 70 to 90 miles??

    Rgds, Bill

    Hi Bill

I shall be out tonight and a steady spin sounds good.

I am up for a longer run on Saturday as it is only a week to the ToT :( .I also am away all next week up north so may not get a chance to get out on the bike.

Have a good weekend at the Clarion Champ OS....

How did the ride go last night? When I saw you guys I'd only ridden from the station, hope I didn't give the impression I was getting in loads of training!

I don't normally wear full kit and use tribars for my 5 min commute, I'd ridden to Edinburgh morning and couldn't be bothered riding home...

    Have a good one tomorrow

Stevie and Bill's Team Cervelo better watch out, they've got some competition:

They should be ok though, the new team probably won't have their budget for bikes.. :D

    Matt,

You are going to get a written warning for not wearing a helmet, 2 more and you will have to hang up your shoes !!

We went into the hills for a short run last night which ended up quite tough into the head wind and everyone had a good work out. We are going to do 70 to 90 miles tomorrow around the doors locally at a steady pace for some base mile training.

See you at the KWM for 8, not you Matt.

That wind was pretty tough last night. I went out straight after work and saw Bill and Stevie heading down towards Linlithgow. I went out for a quick blast - I have been taking it easy for the last week or so as I have been doing rides and sportives over the hundred mile mark for the last umpteen weeks and really needed a break.

It was great to get out last night and get home with a dry bike that did not need cleaned. No cycling for this weekend either as I am going out and its time that my liver had to deal with some alcohol that its not had for many, many months.

  • I'll probably come out tomorrow but won't do 90 miles. Otherwise my legs are too tired on the 7th.

What do you mean by steady, Bill? A steady 20mph?

A steady 17ish tomorrow just to take it easy. That should suit everyone if are all doing the ToT next week.

See you at 8 at the KWM

I'm feeling a lot better now. I'll get out and stretch the legs a wee bit tomorrow - if I get no bad reaction I'll be signed up for the short edition of the ToT & giving you a lift if you still want it. Will email you.

    Hi Mark,

Have you ridden the Bowery yet?

I took the plunge on Friday and ordered one so I should have it tomorrow or Wednesday.

Couldn't refuse the online deal at Pearsons - 225 quid!

Hopefully will get me fit over the winter!

Could do with it as was at Glentress on Saturday for the Black route and it took just over three-and-a-half hours to go round - much slower than I seem to remember a couple of years ago

P.S. Matty, will get form and PO for subs sent over to your home address this week.

    Cheers,

    Grant

Anyone fancy a social cycling weekend out of town, maybe down to Ayrshire, Northumberland or North Yorkshire? We could drive down Friday night, staying in a youth hostel (with a pub near-by) do a 70-80 miler on the Saturday and a 50 miler on the Sunday before driving home in the afternoon. I'm thinking the rides would be steady touring pace, include some great climbs and of course cafe stops.

Just don't forget to pedal! When I first got mine I forgot and did a 'stoppie' by accident when I attempted to freewheel. Watch it on the corners too!
My First 30miles was such fun, especially on nice gradual climbs, But I suffered the next few days, spinning at high speed and then pushing big gears is a good work out.

    Good luck
