alarm went off at 0710 this morning and i looked out the window to see my street covered in ice....didnt fancy crashing on ice again before my trip to spain on monday so went back to sleep....that said, once i got up and about the roads generally seemed ok but i am not in the mood for taking chances given that i am still feeling my last slip on ice....sorry!

I was much the same - didn't get out until lunchtime and fighting back into the northerly wind on the homeward leg wasn't much fun. Summer still seems like an ugly rumour  ¡Buenas vacaciones, El Gordo!

    HAIL, SNOW, ICY GALES!

I've just come back from the Clarion Easter Meet in Stamford, the West Lothian section had a warm welcome. The Clarion are really excited about our new club and loads of members said hello and wished us luck

The weekend in Northants was great fun for me and the family. I raced in my first TT for 8 years, it was a horribly painful 12 mile hilly course. My legs squealed with pain at the first hill having pushed a big gear for the first few miles. We raced through stinging hail, snow flurries and biting wind! I came 8th overall and 2nd in the handicap out of about 40.

Mrs OS 65 and Master OS 65 enjoyed the celebrations at night and my 6-year old's attendance has encouraged the Clarion to organise some kids events at next year's meet in Bury (North Manchester)

I encourage anyone to go to the Easter Meet next year!

C+ have a new edition out featuring a West Lothian ride....

It's about 35 miles and features much of the best of the Bathgate Alps, with good quiet roads and some of the more challenging climbs. The drop down to come back up Kingscavil is a bit contrived but, along with taking the highest roads over Cairnpapple, it means you can link the better challenges together quite well.

With the climb up Cairnpapple being in Cycling Weakly not so long ago, West Lothian is clearly the place to be seen :D

if i am not mistaken there was also a longer featured ride in c+ a couple of years ago that featured the bathgate hills and included the climb from bathgate sports centre

i am working very irregular hours at the moment, often later into the evenings and with my missus working monday, tuesday and thursday evenings it takes a bit of planning and juggling to get out at the minute but since i am home from work early today i will be doing the pedal power run this evening.....

if i am home in enough time this thursday and can get the nipper round to the mother in laws in time i want to race at ingliston this thursday evening which would mean not being at our chain gang at linlithgow bridge......as for saturday, again if i can make it out i am going to have a go at the TLI race which i think is at strathearn this week? so no local run saturday and next saturday it is down to the lakes with richyboy and co for a fred whitton recce and also, for some of us at least, to discuss the opposite sex in extremely positive and flattering terms

r.e. tomorrow, with my wife working it looks like the best option for me is to go to ingliston as this way i can bring the kids and dog along as this way i can still a) perform the role of a responsible parent and b) ride my bike......weather is looking ok so i'll see how it goes

hi all, i hear there were four out last night at the bridge inn, linlithgow bridge, for the chain gang which is good, well done for making it out

i went along to ingliston for the criterium race with the weans for support and got there in what seemed like plenty of time but the race seemed to start before 1830 which meant i didnt have time for a few laps of the circuit for warm up, it was straight into the action! this was my first ever race at ingliston and after my experiences in the first super 6 event i knew the start was frantic and you had to make sure you got in the bunch, which i did after the neutralised lap, bolting up the outside on the main straight to the front...i stayed there for about half a lap before making the cardinal sin of relaxing and riders started pouring through and before i knew it i was chasing to get back on!

the group pulled away and 3 or 4 riders sat on my wheel for maybe 6 or 7 laps despite me slowing down and beckoning them through (they didnt bother) and eventually i realised my back tyre was flat....it was a slow puncture, probably got as i rode the bike over a crappy piece of road to the sign on building, although a few minutes after stopping it was completely down

in reflection the first 10 or so laps seem the hardest as the bunch goes hard to weed out the less strong riders and you really have to work hard and not relax to stay there....after this it seemed to reach a more steady pace

ingliston is a great introduction to racing and it would be good if one or two of you lot gave it a go one week.....EPO-Aholic, I think with your power you would be suited to something like this, dont know what your working commitments are for thursdays but the you can see your workplace from the circuit next door! :D

i should be out at the KWM for 8am tomorrow, i know bill should be out on his fancy new bike and he fancys a longer ride so see you there!

    Thursday Training Night
We met 6.30 at the Bridge Inn Linlithgow Bridge.
    Route:http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/114980

Four of us out on Last night. Joe, Sparky and new guy John.

We set off at an easy pace to get used to the route and then started some training drills. The most success came from an APR style ride, setting off at 3 minute intervals and trying to catch each other. With more riders we should be able to start mastering a paceline.

Lots of enthusiasm and good banter in the pub after, which I can see turning into a regular session! Cheers for the beer John!

Lights are needed if you want to get a fourth lap in and a safe ride home.

Chatted with another rider who was out on the route, Simon from Linlithgow, says he might be out next week...

FatHead: Top work on your Ingliston ride last night, sorry to hear about the flat

See you Saturday, I'll be riding but not as far as Bill!

Just a quick note to say a big up thank you to Matt, Mark and Joe, I have been meaning to get out with the WLR for some time now, and the training ride was superb....though my lungs going up out of Maddison who indicate otherwise!!!!. What a difference getting out with other riders as opposed to hacking in the miles on your jack. I will deffo be along on Thursday nights to try and lose some flab from the carcus, and would recommend it to anyone to come along as there is none of the apprehension that you get from "other" clubs and everyone is out to encourage each other...top job.

With see you guys on Saturday morning @ KWM.

Just as an additional thanks should go to Steve at Frames, Wheels and Gears in Whitburn for initially putting me in touch with the WLR, check him out for a great repair and parts point of view. Laterz. JMC  .

Weather not looking good for tomorrow but have to go out due to event commitments so see everyone up at the KWM for 8am. I will be heading out at 7am with Stevie if anyone wants to join us and will swing past the KWM at 8 to see who is there.

Pray for dry weather so I can get a shot of my new bike !!!!

    See you all tomorrow,

    Rgds, Bill

Hope Saturday was good for those that were out and Thursday night sounds like a really good fixture for the longer evenings. I've struggled to make club runs for various reasons, not least moving house - a few miles nearer the KWM and very near the Bike &Ski Clinic in Brightons...

Managing to get out though - yesterday felt like the first truly springlike ride of the year. 50 miles over the Campsies. A few more climbs like Crow Road-Fintry-Cringate, plus a dose of 'the Sportive Effect' and I might just make it over the Bealach in 26 days time

Tried out most of this route on Saturday afternoon. Takes in some loops and detours that I'd not normally have considered but was all the better for it. I could lose the bit between Kirkliston and Winchburgh though: brought nothing to the party.

I also gave it a shot last Wednesday. More or less - subtract the Kirkliston legs, add a round trip from Polmont to Torphichen.

Coming up the hill from Fauchledean, the wind was getting up, the sky was getting grey and there was some light hail around. Heart sank at the diversion to come back up Kingscavil.......teeth had to be gritted not to just cheat and head home through Linlithgow :?

Great rideout on Saturday troops, was good to finally meet up with you lot, found the route very good though struggled a wee bit wi time trial bars etc. Hope to see some of you out at LB on thursday for a scoot round the Maddison loop. I have got a friend coming over from Northern Ireland on Saturday, unfortunatley she wont have her bike accross this time but if any of you have a spare bike size 50 to 54 at a stretch for a couple of hours thought we could introduce her to some WLR hospitality. you can mail me on jmccomisky@hotmail.com....catch up soon and thanks again.
