I saw it too and we ride these very roads. I wont sue you if you dont either Foz. I think that you take this chance every time you ride - it goes with the territory?Brian B.0

what a disgrace....dont want to comment any more for risk of being censored!0

by taking part in a group ride you accept that there could be an accident. By being members of a club wouldn't the liability insurance cover this sort of thing? Were these riders in an official club?
OS 650 -
Perhaps the two riders have come to an 'agreement' about getting compensation?
OS 650 -
how about sueing for bad chat and jokes during rides? lets hope richyboy has his lawyer at the ready!0
-
some advance warning for this saturday - falkirk cc have the first of two reliability rides this saturday, 70 miles over to kinross way and back with three groups, the first away at 10am
weather and work permitting i plan to do this. anyone else fancy what should be a tough ride? would be good for any of us who plan on having some sort of competitive streak this year!0 -
Hey Fat Head, can't make the Falkirk ride but intend to be at the KWM for 8.30
OS 650 -
I will not make it this Sat guys.
See you all next week.
Rgds, Bill0 -
Hi Fat Head - I think the Falkirk Reliability ride is on Sunday. If the weather is not too bad I'll be going along.
I've never done a Reliability ride before, I guess it's just a case of turning up and going out with whichever group seems suitable.
There is another Reliability ride the following Sunday, organised by Stirling Tri.
This one starts from Rainbow Slides in Stirling.Tearfund Tour of Scotland 26th May to 1st June 2013

Falkirk Reliability ride is this Sunday. I believe it starts at Grangemouth Rugby Club but I may be wrong with that. Probably best to check their websiteFlying Scot? You must be joking!0
-
hi all
yes, my mistake, falkirk reliability is sunday
i plan on going out with the anniesland bunch in glasgow tomorrow.....i have entered the first of the super 6 race series which is on march 1st in east lothian so i need to get the legs blasted off me in prep for this......if all goes to plan and i do this i will give the falkirk one a miss......the plan is to do either an anniesland run or reliability run each weekend thru february....
matt, big john from blackburn texted me earlier, i think he is up for a run tomorrow...i told him what my plans are but i think he may head up to the KWM anyhow as he did a couple of weeks ago when it was just him and neil denny out....0 -
friends, i am offline till thursday so apologies if anyone tries to get in touch and I dont reply
for the next 2 saturdays i hope to get out with the anniesland bunch so I will be missing in our local runs....this is really good prep for racing. on saturday i lasted in the bunch for just over 50 miles till i fell off the back about 2 miles before the cameron house....i've done nothing as intense as this before, my average speed till i got shelled was a tad over 21mph...managed to not miss a turn on the front untill it was time to say goodbye...should have been a bit cleverer seeing as it was my first time with this lot and hid a wee bit as the last 20 miles was a lonely slog along the A82, but, hey, done now!0 -
Was out testing a new wheelset in the winter sun today. I'm no farmer but it was pretty clear to me that this is the part of the agricultural calendar in which you spray absolutely everything you can with liquid keech.
Anyway. Climbing up to West Binny farm. Road between farm and field gate is >clatty< and I mean really, really deep and thick, for quite a distance. Tractor comes along and farmer spots my visible disgust. He stops and we exchange opinions about the misuse of public roads. To be fair, no-one swore or shouted but still.......
He sets off in annoyance but only gets as far as farm gate when some bloke flags him down. Hear some words over the noise of the engine. Words like 'Council road department', ' number of complaints', 'letter through your door', 'Roads (Scotland) Act' and so forth
Now if they could just resurface a few bits and bobs and start salting the roads properly.....0 -
thats fair enough foz...as the self-titled guardians of our countryside you would think farmers would take some care of the roads around their fields too...i think some degree of dirt and poo is unavoidable given how tractors and wagons will be dragging it out from the fields on to the roads but i have seen plenty of instances where it is dangerous for cyclists in particular....how did the wheels perform anyway?0
-
I hear the 105 wheel set did well in the Cycling+ clatty liquid keech test

Who is out tomorrow guys?
Me and Stevie will be at the KWM at 8.30 for a 50 miler.
See you all tomorrow.
Rgds, BillR10 -
hope you had a good run today, the weather looked good as i left for glasgow this morning
did the anniesland bunch again today - 63 miles at an average speed of 21.3 mph for me! managed to get on the good side of a big split today just when it went mental at the cameron house and chainganged home with about half a dozen with another super-duper group up the road...legs were totally blasted and cramping but fared better than last week....will be doing it again next saturday, think it may be the last one as it doesnt run into march...
all the best0 -

Have to say I think its a case without moral merit, and hopefully no legal merit either. If 'Volenti non fit injuria' ever applied, it's here. If you ride close to someone's back wheel, at speed, you're taking a risk and you know it.
One thing that did cross my mind is that they were near the end of a 50 miler. Do you think that the concentration required for riding in a group can wane once you start to get tired?
Contacted my house contents insurance about the risk of being sued and The Nationwide said
' as long as I am not leading a ride for profit then the third party cover I have with them is valid'0 -
Fathead - you were asking about new wheelset. They are Shimano RS10 with new 23mm Continental tyres. Didn't feel a huge difference at first - leaving Falkirk usually means climbing - but on the level or descents the difference in rolling resistance is pretty evident, especially where the road surface is good. Happy customer. Hard to guess how much but think average speed definitely a bit higher.
Hope to see you about - am getting the miles in but having to grab chances when weather, work and life allow.....0 -
Hey there
Four of us rode out on Saturday, Bill, Stevie, myself and my brother in law, Garry. Mangaed to avoid any ice, the sun came out and and was an easy paced ride - 35 miles at 14.5 mph, we went down to Winchburgh and South Queesferry and came back through the lanes. Just right for me cos I'd been out three times during the week.
See you all next week

Hey Rich
span up Boltby on Sunday( ice) , must admit I walked down to the ford . Did about 50 miles and it showed on Monday, thighs were a bit on the warm side.0 -

Saturday 1st
Foz, Denny Neil, myself and Katy rode about 35 miles going by Winchburgh, Linlithgow, and Avonbridge, a pretty tough ride into the wind it was too.
I'll be there at the KWM this saturday
Cheers
OS 650 -
As EPO (aka Jon) says we both came a bad cropper on the harthill to fauldhouse road on a bend that had yet to see the sun and was covered in black ice...not a good day to take out the carbon fibre bike for the 1st time this year...got scuffed hoods, pedals and knackered bibs and overshoes to show for it! bloody sore legs too after trying to keep up with EPO on the lumps and bumps out near slammanan....for someone that admittedly doesnt ride too much he sure knows how to put a dig in!
as some of you know west clothian clarion had its first entrance in a race at the super six at gifford on saturday....i finished just below half way in the B race...it was a thrill but very unerving in the wind as i saw several crashes around me and got caught up behind one in front, a delay in getting my new racing machine built meant i did it on my winter and wet weather bike....think i might be hooked and thinking of doing the jacobite chase a week on sunday0 -
Fat Heed,
Sorry to hear about your fall mate, especially on the carbon rig at least you are ok and survived the fall.
Top marks to the first Clarion team outing, although single handed, you had an excellent result in your first race and now you have got me thinking about the next one. At least I wouldn't be the oldest guy there !!!! maybe the slowest though
Myself and Stevie will be out this Saturday and it could be team Cervelo as he is giving his soloist an outing for the first time, what about you Sad ???
See you all at 8.30 on Saturday.
Rgds, Bill0 -
my plan for this weekend was to do a lakes run with richy and co but i may have to pull out as my wife may be going on a course (not prescription drugs unfortunately)...if this is a case i will be out weather/work permitting0

Evening All
I have been watching your posts for a while and decided to bite the bullet and respond....
The bookings have been made for my first Sportive at the end of June and need some extra incentive to put in the miles.
Is it OK to join your ride from where i can assess my (poss lack of) fitness ??
Thanks
Mark0 -
HI Mark,
Welcome to the west lothian roadies.
Yes you are very welcome to come out with us on Saturday. The pace is that of the slowest member of the group as the Saturday rides are all about the social element and not the competitive one. We will be starting mid week training evenings when the clocks change and that is where the competitive stuff will begin.
Look forward to seeing you on Saturday 8.30 at the KWM in the Bathgate alps.
Rgds, Bill0
