Commute distance.

I often wonder how quickly I could do my commute if I didn;t have numerous traffic lights, several large roundabouts, and backed up traffic to contend with. I seem to spend almost as much time stopped as I do moving.0

plagued with punctures at the minute, new ultra gaiterskins fitted 10days ago. Tuesday evening front tyre got a massive 1cm cut through cords and into tube - had to patch inner of tyre & now fitted an old Schwalbe blizzard which is ok. Then this evening rear 'gaiter 2 separate punctures.. fortunately carry 2tubes.. oh well, just adds an extra 5mins. [:0]
I reckon picked up flints/glass on the "cycle path" section I have to ride 800metres next to busy a.road.[xx(]0 -
Mine is just shy of 5 miles each way, 50% off road which is fun on the way home, but a pain going to work splashing through the mud.Advocate of disc brakes.0

Try to do 2 trips a week, of 22 miles from Middlewich into Chester, and then 22 back again. Detour off the main road via lanes through Eaton / Utkinton makes it about 24 miles if I'm not in a hurry.
On a good year will do it on about 75 out of 220 work days.
Saves a bit of money, as we have 1 car, so when I ride, my wife can have the car.0 -
Mine is 9.7 miles, though I only do it home (train to work) as I have nowhere to get changed and freshened up at work after a ride.
Should be moving soon but i think my commute will be about the same length.
When I am fitter I will go for the more scenic route, but for now this will definitely do!- Each new day is a gift, that\'s why it's called the present -0 -
Mine's easy these days... 4.6km there. 4.9km home.
I used to have a 21km daily commute, but I changed jobs.Commute - MASI Souville3 | Road/CX - MASI Speciale CX | Family - 80s ugly | Utility - Cargobike0 -
How does everyone find the 15m commute? I'm considering doing it when I start my new job, but am a bit worried that it will make you feel knackered all the time. Do you eventually get used to it?________________________

Sam - you get used to it really quickly. Honest - seems daunting, but soon it'll just be part of the working day. Might be a bit tiring at first, but after not long you'll have the fitness to do it without really noticing...0

25 miles round trip from Bury in Lancashire, to Trafford Park, Manchester. I take it easy, and it takes me around an hour each way. Only when the weather's OK though. I know, I know!

Easy, easy 1 mile there. So I do a max of 4 miles commuting a day, saving my legs for dare I say 'proper' cycling.0
-
7.1 miles each way through sunny Aberdeen. A good downhill run in the morning followed by a less pleasant uphill struggle in the evening0
-
used to be 12.1 each way then 16.2 each way, now I'm retired 5 yds to the shed then where I want to go!0
-
About 10mins
Mind you, only takes half as long to get home0 -
My work is only 1.5 miles from home. Last year I got a new Pompino as a second bike. Now the ride in is a nice 6 miles loop. Taking in a long quiet country unclassified road. Best part of the working day.0

8 miles each way through SW Glasgow.
Fairly flat and the scenery as I pass by Govan (hurriedly) isn't the best!0 -
4 miles each way through the pot-holed backstreets of Islington. Generally a pleasant enough ride.0
-
4 miles urban commute each way here, though a few times a week I like to take the long route home via the countryside which I can make as long as I like but usually do 30 miles max.0

Hi All,
I am also a newbie and wanted to say a big Helloooo to everyone.
I cycle just under 5 and a half miles each way to work everyday........
.........when its not raining that is lol.Stephanie0 -
I commute 13miles each way, most of it a hectic and a little dangerous. But once you hit the green sections around the river and the park it all becomes worth it.0
-
13 miles through the new forest from lymington to Hythe
Aim for three times a week depending on family commitments and weather.0 -
Hi there, I'm new as well...
I cycle about 13 miles each way at the moment from south london to the city
I tend to sprint like a lunatic the first 2-3 days then flounder on Thursday and I've recovered a bit for the weekendPurveyor of sonic doom

9,2k measured in one direction via http://www.londoncyclenetwork.org.uk/webmap/default.asp
and I couldn't be bothered to measure it the other way too0 -
The route into Melbourne that I take is ~18,5K each way, mostly flat and done in 38min on a reasonable day. Have been taking lots of trains recently because it's freezing (for you non-Aussies, freezing here is anything under 10C!)
Trying to do it 3+ times a week, plus a decent long ride on a Sunday morning which is new for me - never ridden more than 20K at a time so this morning's 67K shocked the system a bit!0 -
13 miles each way, Crich to Derby. Killer hill for the last 1.5 miles on the way home - cheating on the train doesn't help 'cause it leaves me at the bottom anyway!
Try to do it 3 or 4 days a week.www.cyclaid.org.uk
