  • Depends on how enthusiatic I'm feeling (or guilty from booze & food) but usually:

    In: 22-35 miles
    Out: 18-24 miles

    5 days a week.

14.5 miles each way. Anything's better than trains and tubes.
    FCN 2-4.

13 miles each way, but i only cycle weekends to work when the road are quieter (the country roads round here get treated like Santa Pod)

A bit of respect here from the soft southerners please. In the Scottish context a "real hooley" means the slates are coming off the roofs faster than a scouser can get lead off a church roof.
  • Dunfermline to cowdenbeath 6 miles each way...12 miles a day 5 days a week = 60 miles each week. Usually takes around 20 to 30mins depending on the weather and how i am feeling. Fastest time would be 19mins [8D]

3 miles each way - Islington to the City
straight and flat, and around 20 sets of traffic lights
  • Going through crossgates is quicker, less hilly than taking the kingseat route. My route is from the train station (dunfermline town) is where i live beside. From then on go past woodmill road, garvock bank, halbeath drive, halbeath road, through halbeath main st, go over the bridge thats looking on to the m90, through halbeath ind estate, through crossgates, pass hill of beath, then final destination, cowdenbeath [:)].

This isn't just quicker it's also safer...the cars that go along that road just before kingseat sometimes don't see you, because the road is that hilly and bendy.

  • About 11 West Yorkshire miles each way 3 times a week. Working up to 4 times if the knees allow.

25 miles from house in Kent to the top of Shooters Hill in S E London, and 30 miles going home. Dartford a pain in the a#se to ride through due to much traffic and to many lights, so i do a tad longer detour going home. [:)]

    YEEE-HAAAA!!!

New road bike is just fanbloodytastic!

Soooooo fast and buttery smooth. Already knocked three minutes off my 14.5mile commute time record(48mins)which was set with a 20mph tailwind. Can't wait to go to work! [:0]

Bit of a shame I've been laid up with the screaming poops since Thursday. [xx(] Only got to use my gorgeous Van Nicholas three times in anger since it arrived.

I forgot to mention that it takes me about 90 minutes to ride to work and nearly 2 hrs riding home, least it keeps the fat off.[8D]
  • About 7 miles into Leeds from just outside Bradford (and back - no extending it for fun on the way home yet)

Used to be an annoying hack on the canal, what with all the gunge after it rained, dog walkers etc

Now I bomb in on the road and its a good 10 minutes quicker even though its about the same distance.

posted back in May re: new job in Newbury,Berks. Now 3 weeks have passed.. & ridden everyday which is 14miles each way x 2 x 5 (140per week) x 3= 420miles.. soon adds up!!
First week was on Trek 6700 mtb along tow-path, now have a Giant SCR 3.0 which is a great bike for the œ's & an ideal commute. Quickest time is 38.20 so far. intend commuting all year, fitted SKS full narrow mudguards recently - suitable for the local clubrun also.

flybywire thats a god time mate I do either train and 3 miles into work then 12 miles on way home if I feel like it I do the 12 both ways, car sits in the drive now most of the time.
If I come by car it's 10 miles eachway not sure what the cost of that would be anyone got any ideas its a 2 litre honda civic type s so guess around 3o miles to gallon if i am lucky however train return is œ3.50 mmm which does not seem much of saving to me.

got me thinking mate - I reckon approx. every 10miles = œ1.50 fuel spent (petrol or derv.)
If average 2.0l car does 30mpg & fuel is very nearly œ1.00per litre (4.54litres to the gallon). then one gallon is œ4.50 divide by 30 = 15ppm x 10miles = the above.

    I've saved 42 x œ1.50 = œ63! + wear & tear costs to my ageing Renault in only 3weeks.

Train's not much better than car either pence per mile...

I reckon I do around 15 miles each way. I cycle Chislehurst to Central London (Baker Street). It takes as little as an hour to get in to work (largely downhill) and ususally about hour and half to get home.

I can bump this up during the day by cycling between our various offices for meetings.

Still - all this cycling comes in very handy when it comes to being fit enough to do the Dunwich Dynamo in July.

New to road cycling. Just bought a TREK 7.3FX which i'm well pleased with. My commute is 9.3 miles each way which at the moment takes me 40 minutes. Not brilliant i know but not bad for a beginner i think.

I think that not bad I do about 11.5 miles and it takes me around 45 mins but depends on wind not mine haha and if I have to stop to cross a major road which can be a nightmare in the evening.
I have done it in 30 minutes but that was flat out with wind behind me keep it going
