Yeah, I think James went through a bit of a pretentious patch but now embrace it.
Dexys have been difficult on and off for years, and at the end of the set I saw , they did undertake a long drawn out spoken word performance that pretty much emptied the tent!

Saw Dexys do an album release show last year (with only keyboard and backing tracks), his voice was surprisingly strong when he went for it, but the new album is batshit.

I felt a bit uncomfortable listening to some of it. Almost felt he was overcompensating for past crimes?

I watched Metallica back in 1988 on their Damaged Justice tour at Newport Centre (2,000 capacity) and then again in 2019 at the Etihad with nearly 60,000. It was incredible to see how big they had become. I still can't decide which gig a preferred more - being right up there seeing the sweat flying off their faces (and having tinitus for days after) or the spectacle of the much larger show (they really used their screens and pyrotechnics well, especially when performing One). The improvements in sound technology meant that the quality at the stadiium gig was probably better though 1988 is now a bit of a haze.
For a 'stadium' gig I doubt I'll ever see a show to compare to Jean-Michel Jarre's Destination Docklands, again in 1988. Even 36 years later I don't think anyone has quite mastered the large venue spectacular to his levels.

Undertones last night in Kendal Brewery.
Ex-Fergal sharkey (left 40 years ago) but rest of the lineup intact.
90 minutes of 3 minute bangers, with surprisingly few I didn’t recognise (maybe because they’re mostly the same).
Great atmosphere, mostly 60 something crowd. Liked the venue although low stage didn’t make great viewing for Mrs MM. I did observe that the average height of the audience was a good bit less than when I go to younger events.

We are there tonight to see Peat and Diesel. I did fancy the Undertones but Mrs W didn’t fancy 2 nights of loud music.

I've seen the Undertones at a festival, still a good band.

Pleased to see that, I thought twice as I wasn't sure how good they'd be. I'll make an effort next time I see they're playing.
Saw the Blockheads a few years back, without Ian Drury, and they were very good then.

Peat and Diesel at Kendal Brewery last, brilliant. Great music, all the audience involved and lots of amusing banter from the band.

Been meaning to see them at some point, will definitely now!

Might have to try and go see McCartney at the O2 in December.

Hes certainly a bucket list act, Id say. I saw him at Glastonbury but I'd like to see him in an indoor venue, so I'll try for tickets. Demands going to be mad though.

Aphex Twin is really the last artist of my top top favourites on heavy repeat that I could still conceivably see, and probably leftfield too.
Live experience seems quite the err, experience.

They could have used that at Guantanamo.

Meh, had a mate who was there - said it was good but it was dominated by a load of gakked up dads who kept pushing to the front which I can well believe.
I just would love to experience it. AFX, not the gakked up dads.

Paris standard floor tickets €78.50, front of the front of the front €244. Let's see what the UK price is.

I'm expecting £100ish for seats in the very back.

Paid £150 each :( in the co-op presale. Shattered my self imposed £100 ticket limit, but, well, Macca innit.

Been various memes on tiktok showing reaction videos to Gen Zers listening to Marshall Mather's LP and how shocked they get.
Quite funny, those songs are so engraved on my brain, given the heavy rotation that album head when I was in my early teens I don't even need to listen to them - I can just play them as a music worm in my own head so accurately.
I am absolutely falling into the trap of "everything peaked when I was 11", but that album is just so much better than anything else he's ever done.

I got flagged as a bot lol.
If there'd been floor seats for £182 I'd have taken them in flash, but not paying £144 to be miles away.

I'm really struggling to see the attraction of watching McCartney. From the Glastonbury clips I saw I don't think I'd go if someone gave me free tickets.

I had the bot thing a couple of times but it seemed to move past it. I'm high up but reasonably close to the stage, so happy enough. I've seen now that prices started at £65, but I just grabbed the first I was offered.
I presume Ticketmaster will invoke dynamic pricing on Friday?

Just been back and watched Blackbird from that performance. It's almost a religious experience.

I watched his set in Glastonbury ( we steward there) and it was pretty dull, his voice isn't great either.

So I should try and get a ticket for Fontaines DC when they play down the road then...?

I'd say so! Give 'em a listen

I went to see them. Left before the encore. Decided there was only so much monotone repetitive shouting I could take! I liked the album at that point , but …
New stuff sounds like it might be better for a gig though.

Just bought a ticket for Evan Dando, who I guess falls into this category - an all time favourite that I've never seen live.
I think it really could go either way.

Watching the bootleg beatles on the iow festival coverage.
The George Harrison could be a reincarnation. It's ridiculous 😀
