Who said Christmas no 1 wasn't a big thing any more? Whilst I really couldn't give a flying fig there is a live feed about it on the front page of the BBC news.

Me.
I’ll die on this hill. It is a relic for old people and BBC news caters for everyone, including old people.
what is number one? If I were a betting man it’s something more than 20 years old.

The Wham Christmas song I believe! 39 years old (the song not me)

The postponed Madness gig in Kingston finally happened yesterday- they were so good, how about this for a setlist:

That was indeed a great gig, thoroughly enjoyed it. Heard one of the staff saying what a great set list it was as we were walking in.
Weirdly as I was walking home I had a notification from the Songkick app telling me I might be interested in the gig I'd just been to.

Like the look of that
Is the saxophonist still Lee Thompson and can he still fly (Baggy Trousers)?
0 -
He's still there, 6 of the classic lineup are still performing.

Royal Blood is our next gig, got Glastonbury and Beautiful Days festivals as well, both as stewards

Meh, am not convinced. What constitutes the 'golden era' changes from generation to generation. It's more a reflection of where the leading producing group in any field got their key influences. There are endless examples of creative works and movements that go through long periods of deep unpopularity before being 'rediscovered' and then falling out of favour again. I also think that when the general mood is more uncertain, people tend to look back rather than forward.

Ooh, like Royal Blood, not much rock around atm. Enjoyed their strop at last years Big weekend with the crowd not really engaging with their set.
Speaking of the big weekend, got tickets for the Sunday this year. I’ll get the privilege of a live Olly Alexander with his scantily clad male dancers. Cold Play closing should be good.

Coldplay don't really float my boat, they are at Glasto again too. Saw Olli Alexander in Years and Years (festival in Malaga!) - he was ok.
I see RagnBone Man is playing, seen him a couple of times, really good live.

Coldplay get a lot of flak but upto the last couple of albums which passed me by I think they are good, not setting any worlds alight creatively but they do what they do well. I saw them at Ronnie Scotts in B'Ham the week Parachutes was released , and then I saw them headline Glasto a few years back, both excellent memories on very different scales.
Couple of recent gigs for me was Dionne Warwick and then Gruff Rhys. Both were good nights out. :)
Been listening to Ian Skelly and Bill Ryder-Jones' solo albums this year a lot (Coral fans should get on them). Waiting for the new Paul Weller album now.

Saw The Cadilac Three last week, bit samey at the start but got better at the end, but had a irritatingly blindingly bright lightshow.
Queens of the Stone Age earlier in the year were excellent.

My 2024 so far (proper gigs, not including Cast who did a nice little in-store show):
Vaccines - superb
Shed Seven - really good enjoyable show, but, you know, of Shed Seven songs.
Gruff Rhys - played all his songs that work with a pedal steel. Bit downbeat for me.
The 1975 (twice) - awesome show, better when I went where I couldn't hear everyone screaming along out of tune with every word of every song
Ash - at the 100 club, they're always pretty good but it's a total dump
Yard Act - mixed, but when they were good, they were spectacularly good. Equally when bad, total DS.
Kaiser Chiefs - the hits are bangers, the rest are forgettable
Pixies - playing two of their lesser albums in whole, a let down to be honest, especially when they played a few of their absolute stone cold classics at the end to show you what you could have won. The new bass player had only been in the band a couple of weeks and was only OK.
Bleachers - nice performance, forgettable songs
The Libertines (twice) - absolute stars, when they are good there's little better
The Feeling - I really enjoyed, there's something about that album of theirs that tugs my heartstrings
Madness - pure joy.

I'll give anyone a chance who looks like they might be alright. Last year I saw boygenius and Burna Boy in the same week. This year so far been less eclectic than that, it's true.

This not your kind of thing?

Look I think Thom York is the greatest songwriter of the 21st Century and I won't be budged from that position.

I was pretty impressed with him in the 20th Century to be fair

OK Computer is certainly my favourite Radiohead album so I'd find it difficult to say the subsequent ones are a "cut above". They are, however, very very good.

Went to the opening night of Pink’s European tour in Cardiff last night. It’s the first time I’d seen her live and I wasn’t disappointed with the performance level. The aerial stuff really is spectacular and impressive to watch, not sure how anyone can sing whilst literally spinning around hanging upside down. I’m not a huge fan of big stadium gigs and the sound tends to suffer (they had a few technical glitches last night) but if you want to see the big acts it’s a necessary evil. However, it was the stripped back singing with just a guitar and / or piano that I really enjoyed. She has a great voice to go with the performance levels.
Never been to a gig with such a diverse age range. There were people from primary age kids up to men and women in their 70s,

Great gig last night, Royal Blood - they were excellent, it took the 1st song to sort the sound out, had the whole place rocking. The support band were pretty good too, Crawler, the singer had real stage presence, they should do well.

I would say at least half the audience were under 30 including both my daughters (it's rare they both like an artist). Probably a 70/30 split female to male, it was a very diverse audience in terms of age and gender (but almost entirely white for whatever reason).

Crowded House playing down the road couple of nights ago. Really good, and they seemed to enjoy themselves but everyone wanting to hear stuff you made 30+ years ago must get a bit boring.

It is fun checking out the make up of a crowd at a gig.
All too often everyone who looks like you turns up.
QOTSA was about 70% men in their 30s, many of whom were balding/bald.
