    The downside of that is that a potentially excluded rider starts influencing the overall outcome. A rider could take time bonuses, and cause other riders to sit up when in fact if they'd known they were chasing down 4 seconds for third place, rather than an equal time for 4th/5th they might have handled things differently.

    Accepting judges decisions as final is part of most sports, even if later review finds the outcome to be "wrong".

    been working away so only just had a chance to post on the thread. What upset me the most about this was that DD appealed the original decision and it seems that was what lead to Sagan getting DQ'd. Didn't think that was very sporting from DD.

    Anyway it's all over and done with no, guess his next target will be defending his European Champions jersey

    I only got round to watching the ITV4 Stage 5 highlights last night. They said that before they DQ'ed Sagan the commissaires spoke to the DSs from Dimension Data and Bora Hansgrohe. So although they didn't speak to Sagan directly, it sounds like his representative was able to argue his case.
